Introduction: Turn an Old CPU Cooler Into a New Soldering Fan

Being a computer buff, I seem to always have extra old cooling fans lying around. So, I decided to absolve my work space of solder stank while reusing a fan. I hope you enjoy!

Step 1: Tools and Materials

Tools:

Wire Strippers

Soldering Gun and Solder

Electrical Tape

Spray On Deodorant*

Materials:

1x CPU Cooling Fan

1x 9v Battery

2x 22 Gauge Wires (With Male Pins)*

1x 9v Battery Adapter

*Not Required

Step 2: Make It Smell Nice!

Spray the fan's heat sink with spray on deodorant. This step isn't necessary, but it should prevent your work space from smelling like molten lead for an hour.

Step 3: Prepare the Wiring!

Strip the 9v adapter's wires, and solder them to the ends of the 20 gauge wires. Proceed to tape up the exposed wire. If you want to skip the 20 gauge wires and can just solder them to the fan's wires. However, I chose not to do that in case I choose to use the cooling fan again.

Step 4: Hook Up Your Fan

Plug the adapter's wires into the fan's, and hook up the 9v to the adapter.

Step 5: Enjoy Your New Soldering Fan

Thanks for reading this Instructable. I hope It was of help to you.
