Very well done. The two view perspective really is great. Have you ever done a burnished finish?

Don't use the end grain.

You take an oily wood, and press it into the piece prior to sanding(or, in place of sanding). You are friction burning the oil into the piece. I sort of oils, stains, smooths, and polishes the piece all at once. I find I can go straight to the polyurethane right after.
