Two Stroke Carbon Buildup Removal.

Intro: Two Stroke Carbon Buildup Removal.

Older two stroke engines tend to accumulate oily carbon (crud) in the exhaust. With the appropriate level of heat it can be cleared and power restored.

STEP 1: An Old Gas Grill Will Ussually Do the Trick.

STEP 2: Your Pipe Must Fit Inside the Grill, or at Least the Part You Want to Clean Out.

STEP 3: Keep the Fuel Tank As Far From the Heat As Possible. You Will Need to Push the Grill Beyond Normal Operating Temp.

STEP 4: Add a Layer or Two of Fiberglass Insulation. Paper Backing Should Really Be Removed. Plastic Wrapping Is Out of the Question.

STEP 5: Keep an Extinguisher Handy and Let Her Rip. Full Power for About Two Hours.

STEP 6: I Had Outstanding Results Although the Grill Is Never to Be the Same. If Your Grill Is Intended for Food Preperation You Might Want to Use the Neighbors Grill While They Are in Las Vegas for the Weekend.

i use a wood fire i threw my bike exhaust in a bonfire worked well
I had a good result by spraying PB Blaster into the exhaust port. Engine off, and cold, spark plug out. Let stand for 30 minutes. Then I cranked the bugger about 20 times and got crud form spark hole and exhaust.
Just a hint: heat will RUIN crome so don't try this on a chrome exhaust. Brake cleaner cleans out an exhaust pretty well.
i use a product called CERAMALUBE ENGINE TUNE-UP. it comes in a aerosol can and is sprayed directly into the throttle body. 1/2 can sprayed while someone is holding 1 or 2 grande behind the wheel (depriving the engine of oxygen will kill it) and then the other half 15 or so minutes later. smoke and black stuff (carbon) starts bellowing out during the spraying of the 2nd half of the can...pretty cool stuff...some guy invented it in holland where emission laws are more strict.
Many used grills hit the landfill every year, so finding a salvage grill is not to hard and the cost of propane is around $5.00 for the time required. I tried the torch method first and it smoked like crazy and took an incredible amount of time to get partial results. Photos are forthcoming. I need to reduce the resolution. This posting is about 50 percent humor, though the project was a complete success.
Why do you need to reduce the resolution? Are you using dialup and afraid uploading the full-size pics would take too long? Seeing how this is your first Instructable, you may be worried about the page taking too long to load for your viewers. Don't worry about it, Instructables automatically resizes the pictures, while still making the full-size pics available for download. I apologize if you were already aware of this.
I resent this Instructable. It is an attack on my both my character and personal hygiene! You can believe me when I say I'll never read anything of yours again, carbon hater!
Actually instead of risking damage to an expensive grill and introducing a new "flavor" to it, just go get a propane torch and fire the exhaust manifold after removing it from the engine. Get the outside to a decent shade of red, and then finally put the torch down the throat of the manifold on the engine side to burn the baffle-plate clean. Or just soak it in brake cleaner for a few hours....
got any pictures? seems a little ineffecient.
