Have you ever sat at the compter desk for what seems like forever in the hot summer months? You begin to sweat and feel uncomfortable, but you can avoid this by making your own USB powered fan for under $5! This project is super simple and requires no soldering. It is great to have one in the office or just at home so you can save money on air-conditioning and still stay cool. I hope you enjoy making this!

Step 1: Materials

You will need...

* An Easter Egg
* A small motor (1.5v-3v)
* A press-fit fan blade for the motor
* A USB laptop light (dollar store)
* Electric Tape

Tools

* Hot Glue Gun (with glue)
* Scissors
* Wire Strippers

Step 2: Assembling the Motor

Using the scissors, make a hole in the bottom of the egg large enough for the tip of the motor to stick out. Also, make sure there is enough room for the fan blade to be pressed on the motor. Place the motor in, hold it straght, and hot glue it in place. Really surround the motor with glue, because it would be bad if it came undone during use of the fan.

Step 3: Wiring

Cut the LED part off of the USB cable and strip the ends of the two wires inside. Save the LED and the resistor from the USB light for any future projects. Using the scissors, make a hole in the top of the egg large enough for the wire to enter. Make sure the two wires can reach the motor, and then hot glue the cable in place. It will look a lot better if you hot glue it from the inside so the hot glue cannot be seen. Twist the two wires from the usb cable onto the two tabs on the motor, and put the fan blade onto the motor.

Step 4: Enjoy!

Plug in your USB fan to your computer and say goodbye to those hot summer days! If your fan doesn't blow in the correct direction, try switching which wire goes to which tab, because your polarities may be incorrect. Questions and Comments are appreciated so please post them below. Enjoy!
