Introduction: USB Scroller

It all started when I started reading on my laptop, mostly PDFs

My laptop does not have touch screen. While reading PDF, scrolling was a pain in ass, either i have to use arrow keys or track-pad, and trust me it hate it, its so inefficient.

So in this instructable i am going to make a scroller from old mouse.

Which connects to right to my laptop were i hold it and its so better now.

Reqirements:

  • Old USB A mouse
  • Soldering supplies
  • Epoxy
  • Some wires(I have used wires from audio cables as they are more flexible and relatively strong)
  • Male USB A header

Step 1: Connections

Grab your old mouse and lest get started.

First take a look in attached pic, we need part '3' , '4', scroll wheel and lastly two ceramic capacitors (the orange kind of circular comp).

Google your IC no and connect your scrolling wheel sensor(encoder) and male usb header.

Imp is to connect two capacitors, one b/w positive and negative terminal and other at a pin of IC, generally this pin is not connected to amything else. Use your mouse copper traces for more help.

Without capacitors the device would not be recognised by system.

Step 2: Molding the Case

This step can be replaced by using 3d printed parts or some sort of moldable glue. I actually used resing mixed with black ink.

Be creative here....

Step 3: Finishing It Up

Cuts the wires to length and solder them to scroll wheel sensing unit "the encoder" and hot glue every things to its desired position (not and ideal solution).

Voilà, Its completed. Relax and enjoy the satisfaction of not using track-pad and arrow keys:)
