Introduction: Unique Terrariums

About: I enjoy creating unique things in my small workshop and also videos of the projects for my YouTube channel.

Make a miniature world inside a lightbulb!
Never needs water, once it's sealed.
Any additional details or for more comprehensive information and instructions, feel free to check out the video I made.

Supplies

Lightbulb

Hot glue gun

Wire or timber to mount it on display

Whatever greenery you want to put inside!

Step 1: Hollow Out the Lightbulb

Using small hand tools, carefully break the end of the lightbulb and then hollow out the inside with needle nosed pliers. Be careful not to break the outside part globe! For a visual aid, all the details on how to without damaging can be also found in the video.

Step 2: Plants and Moss

Now fill it with some plants! I've selected some air plants but any small plants would work well as well as moss and similar greenery. Using a kebab stick will help with manoeuvering them into the desired positions.

Step 3: Making a Display Mount

You can choose how you would like to display it. I've gone with cutting out a timber shape out of a block and hot gluing it. And on another one making a simple wire frame which looks quite neat and modern.

Step 4: Prepare a Base Layer

I've made a small funnel out of paper to make it easier to put stuff inside the light bulb. First I went with the layout of small rocks and then some indoor potting mix. This will create a good base layer to keep the moisture circulating once inside.

Step 5: Watering and Sealing

Clean the inside of the globe and lightly water. Using a syringe helps a lot for accuracy. Then seal the end with a hot glue gun. This will then become airtight and create its own ecosystem.

Step 6: Display

And that's it! it's now time to put them on display and enjoy 😁
