Up-cycle an Inner Tube Into a Bookmark

Make a sleek book mark from an old inner tube. Easy to make using only a few simple tools.

Here's what you'll need :

• 1 x Old inner-tube.
• Brass eyelets
• Eyelet tool
• Leather punch
• Scissors

Step 1: Wash and Cut Your Inner Tube to Size

Firstly and most importantly is to wash the inner tube really well, unless you want dirty smears all over your books.

Once it's clean and dry, cut it to whatever length you would like for your bookmark. I made this one about 150mm long.

Step 2: Punch Holes in the Tube for the Eyelets.

Punch three holes at both ends of the inner tube for the eyelets. I used a leather punch to do this, but it doesn't seem to like inner tubes  too much, perhaps there's a better tool ?

Step 3: Fit the Eyelets

Fit the eyelets in place and crimp them down with the eyelet tool.

Step 4: [Optional] Cut One End Into Three Pieces

You can cut one end into three pieces as many leather bookmarks are cut, but you might prefer to leave it flat.
