Intro: Upcycled Coffee Table

My neighbor is doing a remodel and a bunch of redwood milled in the 1930's got tossed into a dumpster. Most folks don't realize this, and we've stopped doing it since, but back then a lumberjack would look at a 500 year old redwood tree and see nothing but lumber. This wood is right from the heart of trees that were up to ten feet in diameter!

Here I'll scrap the wood and re-use it. This wood is hundreds of years old and there's no reason it can't stay around the planet for a few hundred more years.

STEP 1: Tools & Materials

Tools

  • Drill & bits
  • Saw
  • Hammer

Materials

  • Wood from a dumpster
  • Threaded rod
  • Nuts & Washers

STEP 2: Reclaim the Wood!

STEP 3: Build the Table!

If wood is burned or put into a landfill, it releases all of it's sequestered carbon dioxide. Reusing it is good for us and good for the planet! Please upcycle whenever you can!

A good job, and a better idea. I fully agree with your ideas. Go ahead with that. And thanks for showing your job.

That wood is precious stuff; I'd love to get my hands on some 100 year old redwood like that.

Nice project to give it a 2nd life!

I grab it every time I see it!
