Introduction: Updating Windows Video Card Driver

This step-by-step tutorial will walk you through how to update a video card on a Windows PC.

Step 1:

From the Start menu, go to the Control Panel.

Step 2:

Select Hardware and Sound.

Step 3:

Once in Hardware and Sound, select the Device Manager under Devices and Printers.

Step 4:

Select the drop down menu from Display Adapters to view the name of the video card driver. Write this name down for future reference.

Step 5:

Now, go the the manufacturer's website to download the update. In this case, our video card driver in Intel so we will be going to

Step 6:

Scroll to the bottom of the webpage and go to the Download Center.

Step 7:

From the first drop down menu, select Graphics Drivers. From the second drop down menu, select Desktop Graphics Drivers. And from the third drop down menu, select the name of the particular graphics driver you are looking for (the name you wrote down before). In this case, we are looking for the Intel (R) 82945G Express Chipset.

Step 8:

Once you have selected the particular driver you are looking for, you will be taken to a page with multiple downloads available. You will select the driver that corresponds with your version of windows (i.e. Windows XP, 7, etc.) and type of operating system (32 bit or 64 bit).

Step 9:

If you are unsure what version of windows you are running or what type of operating system you are running, follow the following steps:

- From the start menu, right click on Computer

- Select Properties

This page will show you both the version of Windows you are running and the type of operating system you have (32 bit vs. 64 bit).

Step 10:

In this case, we will be choosing the update for Windows 7, 32 bit.

Step 11:

You will then click on the file and begin your download.

Step 12:

For your download begins, you must first accept the terms and conditions.

Step 13:

Your download will appear in the lower corner of your browser. When it is complete, click on it and begin the installation.

Step 14:

Follow the wizard through until the installation is complete and you are prompted to restart your computer to finish the installation.
