Upgrade Regular Bulb to a Smart One Featuring Voice Control, Timers, and Remote Access

Creating a smart home doesn't have to break the bank, especially if you're looking to keep your existing appliances. In this guide, I'll show you how to transform a regular light bulb into a smart one with EVVR Smart Relay, enabling you to enjoy the convenience of remote control, timers, voice commands, and energy monitoring. You can even integrate it into your Home Assistant platform for centralized management. Today, we'll focus on upgrading a light bulb as an example.

1* EVVR Smart Relay

1* Light bulb base

1* Light bulb

1* Cable with plug

1* Screwdriver

Step 1: Prepare the Wires

Begin by cutting the wires and identifying the neutral and live wires. Since light bulbs don't require grounding, there's no need to locate the ground wire. Different regions use different color codes to distinguish these wires. Refer to regional standards for guidance.

Step 2: Configure the EVVR Smart Relay

Disassemble the EVVR Smart Relay using a screwdriver. Inside the relay, you'll find labels: "L" for the live wire, "N" for the neutral wire, and "G" for the ground wire. The "OUT" end is where the current flows out. Connect the neutral and live wires from your cable to the corresponding terminals on the relay.

Step 3: Modify the Bulb's Base

Carefully pry off the base of the light bulb. Connect the neutral and hot wires from your cable to the bulb base. Then, securely screw the light bulb into the base.

Step 4: Power It Up

Plug in the cable with the EVVR Smart Relay and turn on the power. Follow the instructions in the manual to pair the EVVR Smart Relay with your mobile phone. You can now control the light bulb remotely using the Apple Home app or the EVVR App.

Step 5: Important Note

When upgrading larger appliances like refrigerators or air conditioners to be smart, remember to connect the ground wire to the relay for safety purposes.
