Introduction: Use a Free AI Tool to Make a Magnet of Your Pet

I have a dog named Emmy and I thought it would be funny if I put her face on a magnet. However, I am not very good at 3D modeling animals, so I found a way to use a free AI tool to make it for me. Even though I used this method to make a magnet of my pet, I think it would work well with people too.

Supplies

  • 3D Printer
  • Filament (White is recommended)
  • Computer
  • Paint Brushes
  • Paint (Colors vary)
  • Magnet

Step 1: Take a Picture

Take a picture of your subject. Make sure there is even lighting with as little blur as possible.

Step 2: Copy the Subject

At least on Apple devices, you can hold and copy the subject from a picture. If your device doesn't have this feature, you can skip to step 4.

Step 3: Paste the Subject

Paste the subject in a document like Google Docs or Notes. Then screenshot the subject in the document and crop everything except the subject.

Step 4: Erase Background

Open up an app like Canva and upload your picture. If you copied out the subject, you can use white to just color out the neck or any other unwanted items. If you did not copy out the subject, color out the entire background. Screenshot the picture with the background being completely white.

Step 5: Generate

Make an account for Meshy. Select image to 3D model. Upload the picture with a white background. Click generate. This may take a few minutes. When it finishes, export the 3D model.

Step 6: TinkerCad

Import the 3D model into TinkerCad. Remove the back half of the 3D model, so it is just a face. Put the face on a thin cylinder. On the back of the cylinder, add an indent for a magnet. If you want you can also add text.

Step 7: 3D Print

3D print the model.

Step 8: Sand

Sand the 3D printed piece so that the paint adheres better.

Step 9: White Coat

Paint on a white coat.

Step 10: Paint

Paint the magnet in any colors you want. I used the original picture as a reference.

Step 11: Snap in Magnet

The last step is to snap in the magnet.

Step 12: Use

I hope you like your magnet. Be sure to comment with any questions or comments.
