Introduction: VW Westfalia Gingerbread (Laser Cut)

Took a bunch of trial-and-error, but we managed to get gingerbread to cut consistently on a 20W diode laser.

Supplies

  • Laser cutter powerful enough to cut the gingerbread
  • We used an Atomstack S20 Pro 20W diode laser
  • Gingerbread recipe (details below)
  • Frosting and candy
  • Oven

Step 1: Bake Sheets of Gingerbread

The real trick is to get the gingerbread thin and precise.

You can use any recipe, but I recommend removing the leavening agents from the recipe. This will keep the baked bread thin and even.

Once mixed up, roll it out to exactly 1/8” and bake until starting to brown.

Once baked it will be close to 1/4”.

Step 2: Cut on the Laser

Once the sheets are ready, it is time to cut the shapes out on your laser.

Attached are the templates in several formats:

  • Lightburn
  • SVG
  • DX

For my Atomstack S20 Pro, cutting was slow: 2 passes at 3mm/s. However, the results were very nice with clean edges. A more powerful laser would do even better.

Step 3: Assemble

You will need some good solid frosting for this step.

Step 4: Decorate

And enjoy!
