Introduction: Video Game Quilt

This lap or toddler size video game quilt uses perler patterns and graph paper or excel to create an 8 - bit quilt using fabric.

Step 1: Find Images

Search the internet for perler or cross stitch patterns that are free. This works best if you type the image or character you want with the word 'perler' after it.

Step 2: Put Into Pattern

Use excel or graph paper to make a pattern for your image from the perler pattern.

Step 3: Figure Out Pieces

From the excel or graph pattern, see how many pieces you need and what size they will be. Each square in excel or your graph equals 1 inch. Because there is a quarter inch seam allowance on each side, the fabric should be cut into 1.5 inch strips first, and then sub-cut into the size needed per the pattern you made. For example, if one particular color is two squares together (horizontally), then the strip you cut for that pattern piece is 1.5 x 2.5. The half inch comes from the seam allowance.

Step 4: Sew Pieces Together

The quilt will be constructed in strips. The strips coordinate with the graph or excel pattern. Once all the strips are completed, sew those together as well. This will build the quilt top.

Step 5: Quilt

Now layer backing, batting and the constructed quilt top and sew together using your favorite quilting method.

Step 6: Binding

Put binding all around your quilt top. Wash, dry and snuggle!
