Introduction: Vintage Baby Fashions
When my son was born in 1970 I knitted him several baby jackets. My favourites were taken from a pattern book called Sirdar Baby Sunshine No. 123, which cost me 6 British "old pence". When my son told me that he and his wife were expecting their baby over thirty years later, out came the needles again and I searched for good old Sirdar Baby Sunshine No. 123 pattern book. Unfortunately, I no longer had it, but luckily was able to purchase it on E-bay. It must have been a later edition, as the price on the cover was now 9 "old pence". The two little coats I knitted from this book for my new grandson were exactly the same colours as the ones I had knitted all those years before for his dad! My needles were very hot and excited, so I continued knitting several other little jackets and blankets as well, including the ones shown in the slide show. I used very small needles size 3mm and Caron Simply Soft yarn http://www.caron.com/color_cards/cc_simplysoft.html in white and soft blue for the two favourites and oddments of baby yarn for the others. Some things never go out of style! I knitted another little blue one this year and it received "an honorable mention" ribbon at the local country fair.

can you tell me about the purple and white striped set? pattern? The little bottoms would make a great diaper soaker/cover done up in wool! TIA for any info :)

I looked through my patterns, and can't find this particular one. I think it is one I borrowed from a friend. However, I know that in the "olden days" you could get patterns for the little bottoms included with a sweater. It was quite common. I would suggest going on EBay and searching for vintage baby knitting patterns. You would probably find something similar.

Just had another search and it comes from a pattern booklet called St. Michael Knitting patterns for the family. This is years old and was bought in England in the 70's. It's actually clled Baby' Angel Top, pants and bootees, but as it is copyright I can't send the pattern. However, I had a look on Ebay and saw loads of very similar patterns for the pants which look very similar.
