Introduction: Vinyl Record Butterfly's
***PLEASE USE PARENTS HELP IF YOU ARE NOT OLD ENOUGH TO USE AN OVEN***
Step 1: Materials
-oven
-vinyl record(s)
-white crayon or pencil
-traceable butterfly outline (print offline)
-oven mitt
-cookie sheet
-aluminum foil
-sharp scissors
Step 2: Prep
-Preheat oven to 350.
-Print a simple butterfly outline offline and make sure it prints to the full size of the page.
-Cut it out and lay it over your record. Trace with white pencil.
-get a cookie sheet that will fit your record and line it with aluminum foil.
Step 3: Creating Butterfly
Once the oven is preheated, place your removed on the cookie sheet and slide into the top rack of the oven. Let sit for about a minute. Sides should be somewhat crinkled and it will become really soft and floppy.
Make sure you wear oven mitts when taking out the cookie sheet. Now quickly cut the butterfly along the outline. The record will cool down fast so you may have to put it back in the oven multiple times.
The record itself shouldn't be too hot to the touch, but just in case hold it down while you cut with an oven mitt.
When your butterfly is cut out fold it in (like picture)
Step 4: Decorating & Using Extra Pieces
After shaping, I used puffy paint to decorate it to make it colorful.
Once your butterfly is done you can do whatever you want with it.
-tie a string through the hole and have it hang from your ceiling
-nail it to the wall through the hole in the center
-decoration
With your excess pieces of vinyl you can make jewelry or smaller butterfly's. I made a ring and bracelet!
