Intro: Vital Essence of Coffee Bean

Another world, another time.  In the age of wonder.  A thousand years ago, this land was green, until the Bean cracked.

A single single bean was lost,  (Think it rolled under the fridge)

But there is a prophecy...

A thousand years have passed.

Now, once more, the world must undergo a time of testing.

Quick to the Cristal chamber, only the Emperor can drink the Vital Essence of Coffee Bean.

I was looking in the internet for info on Lip balm for my next project and came across extracting coffee oil.  "Lightbulb"  I could enter the coffee contest and try my first project.  So this will be a double entry first the oil and then... wait for it... wait for it... Coffee Lip balm.

I'm going to put my comments on the pictures so reed the pictures for helpful hints.

STEP 2: The Print Only This Page Page.

This page is for people who don't want to waste ink and can follow a recipe  It also makes it handy to put into a binder.

How to extract the Essence of Coffee Bean.  or A Coffee Bean Essential Oil

Stuff

6 oz Coffee Beans your preferred brand
Old fashion coffee grinder
6 Cups extra virgin olive oil
Small crock pot (or temp controlled Sous Vide Cooker)
Wooden spoon
Cheese Cloth or strainer or Coffee press
32 oz mason Jar with two part lid
Spoon

1.   Dump six oz into the crock pot.  (You might want to crush them first.  Crushing will bruise the bean and release the oil better.  Old grinders (hand crank kind)  Crush the beans, Electric grinders spin very fast and cut the beans).  Cover and mix with the olive oil.

2.   Turn the crock pot on low.

3.   Cook on stirring every hour and make sure not to burn the beens

4.  Separate the beans from the oil one of the following ways.  Place the cheese cloth over the masion jar and hold in place with the ring part of the lid or place the oil and beans in a coffee press and press. This might have to done in batches.

Cooking should take between eight and twelve hours depending on your crock pot. The longer you cook the beans the stronger the oil  will be. This of course wont be pure oil but I will be able to use it in my next Ibble.

STEP 3: Add Everything

1.   Dump six oz into the crock pot.  (You might want to crush them first.  Crushing will bruise the bean and release the oil better.  Old grinders (hand crank kind)  Crush the beans, Electric grinders spin very fast and cut the beans).  Cover and mix with the olive oil.  I did this at work so i used the mason jar to both measure the oil and beens and to also crush the beens.

2.   Turn the crock pot on low.

3.   Cook on stirring every hour and make sure not to burn the beens

Cooking should take between eight and twelve hours depending on your crock pot. The longer you cook the beans the stronger the oil  will be. This of course wont be pure oil but I will be able to use it in my next Ibble.

STEP 4: Confessions

At first i could not get this to work at all.  I had a little light on it that would not light.  Then i plugged it in that helped the light went on but when it the crock pot wasn't heating unless it was all the way turned on.  Oil retains a lot of heat so i checked it every half hour and turned it on and off keeping it between 150o and just under 200o.

STEP 5: We Separate Here. Your Path Is Different From Mine.

4.  Separate the beans from the oil one of the following ways.  Place the cheese cloth over the masion jar and hold in place with the ring part of the lid or place the oil and beans in a coffee press and press. This might have to done in batches.

One of the most awesometasticest ibles ever. Yay for DC fans!
Thanks glad you liked it.
Also, you can use the same process to make all sorts of flavored / scented / magical oils. Fairy oil, for example, could use violets, honeysuckle, honey, and oats. Come up with your own recipes, and heat them slowly for a day or three.
I am wondering what you might use this for- Thanks.
Well I was going for coffee flavored lipbalm the coffee oil is suposed to be good for your skin. You loose the coffee smell and its the smell that tircks your taste buds in to thinking your eating coffee. It was a good expermint.
