Whenever in a camping trip or doing a Survival practice in the outdoors, CLEAN WATER IS A MUST! Proper hydration guarantee us to keep a healthy balance in our body to perform daily camping chores and activities. So, having access to clean water in remote areas is needed in order to have a plaesant experience.

The following is a simple hack that we can add it to our gear, to convert a simple hydration pack into a "Purifier Device" with a considerable price difference versus comercial/branded products.

Supplies

1 meter long (3 foot) trasparent plastic aquarium-type hose, 1 centimeter in diameter (1/2" inch)

1 cutter/X-acto knife

1 "Sawyer Mini" water filter

Step 1: Setting the Implements

Discard the cap of the sawyer filter, we will not need it anymore.

Step 2: Just a Little Cut

Cut a 10 centimeter (8 inches) portion of the aquarium hose

Step 3: Adapt Hose to the Filter

So, you end up with two pieces of hose now, the little one that you just cut and the rest of the hose. The little one must fit on the filter´s nozzle, the larger one will fit on the opposite nozzle.

Step 4: Already There...

See? So simple! this ends the first part of the setup.

Step 5: Identify

Observe the bladder of your hydration system and identify the extractable parts from the hose included, both are attached to the bladder with some kind of threaded piece from both ends.

Step 6: Detach

Carefully detach both ends of the bladder´s hose, just a littke pressure is needed to take them off.

Step 7: Re-Atach

Substitute the original hose for our filter/hose setup and atach both pieces to it

Step 8: You´re Done!

Slip the bladder into the hydration system, make the adjustments to the bag and there you go! you already transform a simple water carrying hydration system into a water purifying system in no time and with minimum materials. I recommend that never fill the bladder with heavily turbid water, that could add too much stress to the filter´s membrane, reducing its utility life.

For that matter, before refill the hydration system bladder with doubtful quality water in an emergency situation, put a towel, shirt or some cloth blocking the bladder´s mouth to make a "pre-filtering" every time you need it.

Happy Camping!!!
