Ever since elementary school, I have always had a passion for the art of origami. Everyday in class, I would begin to fold ninja stars, spinners, and fortune tellers that I would use to have fun with my friends.

This origami piece that I present today is one of my first true works of the art of origami that displays a triangles intersecting each other in a unique pattern. The beginning few steps are pretty basic and easy to follow, but when piecing the shape together, it gets a bit more difficult.

This makes a nice office, desk, or house decoration and will catch the eyes of any classmates, workers, or family. I hope you enjoy this design :)

Supplies

This can be made with just some simple office supplies :D

12 post it notes (can either be 6x two colors or 3x four colors, I did 6x pink and orange) (You can also take sheets of printer paper and cut it into equally sized squares)

Recommended: a small piece of tape when first assembling

Step 1: Making the Triangles

Take one of your post it notes and fold it in half. Then, fold the post it note in half vertically as shown above. Then, open the folds up and fold the flaps towards the crease in the middle. Afterward, open the flaps up and fold a diagonal towards the crease in the center as shown in the picture, do it on both sides.

Step 2: Making the Triangles Cont

After you have folded the diagonals, open your folds up. Then, crease the diagonals you folded previously and crease and fold them inward to end up with a pentagon (shown in the pictures). After you have completed that step, fold the flaps inward as shown above, and then repeat on both sides. Finally, fold the bottom flaps up on both sides, and you now have one triangle completed. Please repeat this for the rest of your post it notes :)

Step 3: Making the Shape

Now comes the hard part. First, take one of your triangles. Then, take another color of your triangle and then place the flaps where they fold into the flap of the first triangle. Afterward, place a piece of tape(if you want) in order to secure that placement so it won't move. Next, you want to take another triangle and place the flaps in the flap of the triangle you just put into the first triangle. I know this sounds a bit confusing, but bear with me, the pictures I have included show the process of how to put the flaps in. A word of advice, for the triangles you place into the flaps, try to keep the flaps of those triangles folded a bit downward so it wont interfere or bother you when you are trying to attach more triangles. When you place the fourth triangle into the third triangle, you should be able to see a cool pattern emerge, as shown in the pictures :) Lets continue on with the harder and more confusing steps....

Step 4: Making the Shape Cont....

Okay now we have to attach another triangle for each of the colors of the shape. This part is very similar to the previous steps, and it is just important to keep track of each flap for each triangle and understanding where each thing goes. The most important fact that you need to know is that every time you add a triangle, there will be only on pair of flaps that will be used to help support that triangle. If it seems like that flap will not get into your triangle and the flap that corresponds to another triangle seems to be falling out of place, that most likely is not the one you are looking for and there should be a pair of flaps that seem to perfectly align with your triangle. Although this may seem a bit confusing...trust me, when you start adding the triangles, you will see what I mean. The pictures I have above show the process of adding the second triangles and are very useful if you need some sort of guidance. After adding four more triangles, you should end up with an almost finished WXYZ origami :)

Step 5: Making the Shape Final...

Okay now that you have finished with Step 4, you should have 4 more triangles left. At this point, you want to take one of your triangles and line it up with one of your incomplete triangles on your shape, like in the pictures. Adding the first triangle is easy, but it gets a bit harder when adding the next ones. When you add the first triangle, it should line it and inserting other flaps into the triangle shouldn't be difficult. However, as you add the next few, it is important to keep track of the flaps and knowing where each one is and where they should go. Try to fold down the flaps so the triangles can fit into the shape and be able to lock in place by the flaps when they are pushed into the triangle (look at the pictures for guidance). The first triangle should only need one pair of flaps, but the rest of the three will need two pairs of flaps, which you will see when assembling and in the photos, in order to lock in place. Once you have finished adding all of the triangles to the shape, WOOHOO, you are finished with the WXYZ origami shape :).

Step 6: Thank You!!!

Once you have finished all these steps, congratulations!!! You have finished making the WXYZ origami.

These little shapes are extremely cool and are nice to have on your office desk or around your home for decoration and will definitely catch the eye of other people.
