Intro: Walnut Hallway Table Topper

Topper for a metal hallway table topper I found.

STEP 1:

Found a piece of walnut with an interesting graining pattern and cut it into 3/4" strips and mixed them up.

STEP 2: Glue Up

Glued them together and clamp them up while keeping them flat.

STEP 3: Finish

I used vinyl sealer and precatalyzed lacquer.

STEP 4: Here It Is

I just put small adhesive clear rubber feet on the bottom of it and set it in place. Thanks for looking y'all.

Did you attach the wooden top to the metal frame in any way? I'v been thinking of a similar design.

I did not attach it at all. I put some small clear rubber pads down so it wouldn't slide, and just placed the wooden top on top of the table.
I considered screwing through the metal top, underneath, unto the wood, but wanted to avoid doing that in case I ever decided to remove the top or something.
I's been over a year and it hasn't moved.
Table looks great! The metal frame looks to be a 55 gallon aquarium stand. Those are readily available.

Very cool. I love the look of the mixed-up grain! Did you also make the metal frame?

Thanks! I didn't make it but I refurbished it. I found it in a field of kudzu. You can see some photos here if you're interested: http://imgur.com/a/8y8ZA
