DIY 50 Cent Water Heater

Intro: DIY 50 Cent Water Heater

I live in a rural area outside Bangalore, where I see people struggling to boil water daily for bathing. People are cutting a lot of trees in order to get wood, this is also very time consuming for the family and generates a lot of harmful smoke in homes. An electric heater costs more than 400 rupees, which isn't affordable. Hence, I made this $0.5 water heater which boil the water very quickly, and is pollution free.

STEP 1: Take All the Components

Materials:
1. Nut and bolt or (any two metal pieces)

2. wire

3. wood piece ( I used an ice cream stick)

Tools:

1. knife

2. Hot-glue gun

STEP 2: Connect the Positive and Negative Wires to the Bolts

Remove the insulation sleeve of the wire.

Take two nuts and bolts, make connection for your water heater as shown in the image.

STEP 3: Put the Wood Piece

Take the nut and bolt and then put the wood piece in between the nut and bolt as shown in the image.

STEP 4: Final Step of the Project

After that you need to fix the wood piece in between the two bolts by applying the hot-glue at both ends.

STEP 5: Finally Your Project Ready !

Finally your project is ready to use.

(Don't put your hands inside the water when it's turned on, it will electrocute you!)

This can kill somebody.....There are much safer ways to heat water.....Don't try doing this !

If that is the case, what wire size do I have to use and also what other adjustment do I have to make? Thanks.

can I use it on my 12 volts system if I plug it in my solar system ?

Richard.

While this may be generating some heat it's likely not enought to steralize the water, most of the bubbling you are seeing is electrolysis of the water into Hydrogen and Oxygen which is the bubbling you are seeing (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrolysis_of_water).

With that being said, passing hydroxy gas (Hydrogen + Oxygen) through a bubbler and then burning it would give you clean water. If you have enough surface area on your electrodes you should be able to generate enough hydroxy that you could use it like propane to boil water.

You might want to check out the Hydroxy Gas Generator instructable which talks more about the science involved and have a look at step 12 which discusses the bubbler so you don't accidentally cause an explosion.

Isn't hydrogen flammable? If it is it could be a real problem...

Thank you i will try to make another model .

Is this connected directly to your wall's plug? ~220 Volts?

Sounds a little scary but cool.

thank you, but you can also try.

I don't understand how this works? do you hook the other end of the wire to something? and if this gets hot, won't the glue melt off?
