Intro: Ways to Be Green.

So while hearing all this talk about "saving the earth", you realize: no one ever really told you how to be green and help out a little. Here's how.

(man i really wanna go there!)

STEP 1: Turn Off the Lights!!!

This is a GREAT way to save energy and money. When you walk out of a room, just flip the switch (if theres no one else in there) and BAM! You just saved the world. It's like your jack bauer, but better.

STEP 2: Use Energy Efficient Bulbs!

Using energy efficient bulbs saves energy and money. So, its good for earth and good for you. If you can't afford to buy them, just refer to step one. You can make a sun jar (search) and have a cool lantern that charges in the sun. Solar this are good too, there's lots of instructables on using solar panels for energy. There's even one on charging battery's with solar panels! Make sure you use rechargeables. (so if oyu use that to recharge the batteries you use in your MintyBoost! charger...then you get energy free...if my calculations are correct.) Next step!

STEP 3: Bring Your Own Bags.

When you go to the supermarket, bring your own bag. At my Shoprite, they have them for 99 cents, so i bought one. All you have to do is bring it in and put your groceries in it at the check out. Cool, right? Just one more way to be green.

STEP 4: Reuse!

Reuse your plastic bottles! Put money in them, and convert it into a high-tech 24-hour home banking ATM. You can make it a cheapo vase for flowers by cutting the top off, make rockets, and all kinds of stuff! Fun, huh?

STEP 5: Recycle!

In my township, you can have a bag of bottles, and a truck comes around to pick them up and bring them to some recycling place. All i have to do is label it "BOTTLES". Then, thats one more point for me for being green! (you can even recycle old paper for your little cousins to draw on)

STEP 6: Enjoy the Earth!

Enjoy it while it lasts, o fellow human beings. Thanks for viewing, please vote! Any questions, or comments, post below.

To Acepilot42:
Companies and governments making a high profit on destroying the Earth have convinced you, through public opinion propaganda, that caring about the Earth, the place whereyou and everyone you have, and will ever know lives, is a ridiculous idea.
You used Tree Hugger as an insult. That is what is the ridiculous idea.
You attack, and enforce their ideas, so they no longer have to.
Wake up. Don't be a sheep to the wolves.
Think. What else are you convinced of?

WOW YOUR SUCH A TREE HUGGER!!!!!!!!!!!!

i burned a pile of 80 tires to save the landfill. it was pretty too.
burning tires is almost just as bad you should take them to a recycling center so that they don't do any bad
nice!!!! LETS ALL SAVE OUR EARTH!!!!!!!!
i like the last pic,its funnyy
Wow, amazing pictures!
Did you ever consider that perhaps a candle is less environmentally friendly than lighting a CFL or even a incandescent bulb for the time the candle would provide light? After all, the infrastructure for providing electricity is already there and efficient, whereas candles have to be made (out of petroleum wax), shipped to the distributor(in a diesel semi truck), shipped again to the retailer, yet again in a truck, then bought by you and burned. Just turn on the light for the 6 hours it would take to burn the candle. It will use one eighth of a kilowatt hour, which will release 54 grams of CO2. How much did that candle weigh, and the diesel fuel used to make it weigh? Much more than 54 grams, and all of it went into the the atmosphere. Let's not forget the indoor pollution. I don't mean to insult you, but I get REAL tired of people thinking they are doing the world a favor(and half the time, getting smug about it), when really their lifestyle is more environmentally unfriendly than living like any other person. Now, I would be real fired up if I thought that global warming was an issue, and even more so if I was in any way suspicious that carbon dioxide emissions contribute to global warming. To sum this all up: Think things out before you tell people what to do.
I know what you mean but what about the shipping and manufacturing for the BULB?
We could make a broad assumption and set the manufacturing and transportation "costs" equal per unit. The candle burns for six hours, the bulb for 6000 hours. So you need 1000 x the energy to manufacture and transport an equivalent number of candles.
Did you put in the disposal costs for the candle and for the bulbs?
Well i edited the instructable a little bit, in favor of what you guys think. thanks! I never would have realized that on my own.
Commercial candles may be made of paraffin wax, which is a petroleum product, but a lot of people make candles out of beeswax, which is a bee product. And candles can be purchased locally in a lot of places from people that produce hand-made candles. So it may be possible to be green using candles if the candle users do their research and obtain their candles from the green sources. Maybe.
Some people may need a payday loan to attend this week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Amid the economic recession, people are having a difficult time staying ahead. So if you’re already strapped for cash it might be best to stay away. However, if you have somehow managed to stay ahead on your finances, with or without a payday loan, some of the items that will be bookcase this year may just provide the financial boost you need. The focus at the convention is on inexpensive, energy-efficient technology, such as powerful ultra-mobile PCs and Netbooks, which will help people save money. Of course, you will have to spend some money to make money. So if you’re smart and responsible with money, maybe getting a payday loanpayday loan now that will help you save money in the future may just be worth it.
I want to go there too! that looks beautiful. something else to consider about living green - not purchasing plastic water bottles. plastic is made from oil, a limited resource. it takes 7 liters of water to make 1 bottle of water because of processing. recycling the plastic bottles you use is not better than not consuming bottled water. bottled water production wastes water. and puts out exhaust from the vehicles to take them to your market. to be green about this - drink tap water. or get a more permanent filtering system. sweet instructable! thanks!
wow, how did you get the lightning pic, that is freaking sweet.
