Introduction: Wedding Beer Koozies

My Brother got married in Vegas this year and I was tasked with decorations. They wanted a Tiki theme so I decided to make a wedding favour that people could use at the party but also take home as a keepsake. That's where the idea for these Koozies came from

What you need:

  • A4 sheet of foam
  • thick thread/wool
  • large needle
  • thick card / sticky vinyl
  • craft knife / die cutting machine
  • fabric pen

Step 1: Cut Out the Koozie

I've attached a template of the shape you need to cut out your foam. You may need to make this shape a bit larger / smaller depending on the size of your can, so cut out a tester on card just to check.

I put the foam into my die cutting machine once I got the sizing right and this gave me the shape for the Koozie itself. If you don't have a die cutting machine then a craft knife / scissors will work just fine.

Step 2: Sew the Sides

Fold the Koozie in half so that the sides line up, then take your needle and wool / embroidery thread and sew up the side.

Once you get to the top, make sure the needle is on the inside and then tie a knot at the top to secure the thread. Repeat on the other side.

Step 3: Create Your Message Template

Cut out the message template on sticky vinyl or card. I prefer sticky vinyl as you can position it on your foam without it moving but easily peel off. I also added the year they were getting married inside the circle and the couples names under the line.

Your template should be the negative space, so remove the letters, leaving behind the shapes in the middle of the letters. In this example image you would throw away all the blue parts

Step 4: Apply Your Template

Put the template on top of your Koozie and colour in the text with your fabric pen. I use a black fabric Sharpie which you can by on Amazon. You can also use fabric paints but it's more messy and takes longer to dry

Step 5: Add Beer

Just add a bottle/can and pass out to your guest to get your party in full swing
