Introduction: Will an IPhone Charge Faster on Airplane Mode?
Will an iPhone charge faster on airplane mode? I have heard that turning an iPhone on airplane mode (no signals entering or leaving the phone) helps it charge faster. In my opinion I'd assume it would, as it uses battery power to keep the cell service and wifi connection on. Is this true though? In this Instructable, I will be figuring that out.
What I’m using:
- iPhone 4
- Standard Apple charging cable with wall adapter
- Standard house outlet
The results were done using everything listed above. I tested the charging time for battery increases of: 10% - 100%, 50% - 100%, 80% - 100%.
Each charge was done with and without airplane mode on.
Step 1: Execution
The way I performed this was checking the phone by clicking it off standby for a moment to check the battery percent. As it got around 95%-99% I checked more frequently to make sure the time was recorded as close to when it hit 100% as possible.
Step 2: Results
The chart above shows the times that it took in minutes. None of them are exactly proportional to another based on the time it took. However it does show that overall it is faster to charge while an iPhone is on airplane mode.
I was inspired to figure this out and create an Intructable after seeing the Scientific Method Contest, so if you like it, I would appreciate your vote!
