Introduction: Winterize Your Shoes - DIY CRAMPONS.
After a recent snow storm, it was icy and slippery all over the roads and pathways. I came up with this simple idea to make some crampons. This is a cheep and easy to make project to be used whenever you need.
Step 1: Materials and Tools.
I used
- Aluminum bars.
-Rivets.
-Velcro bands.
Some tools are needed to make holes and ply the bars. Anyway use what you have in hand and your imagination ;-) .

Step 2: Size & Dimensions.
I used my own shoes for reference to size the metal bars, so mark the length on the bars and cut two of them.
Step 3: Holes for the Rivets.
Make few holes to fix the rivets to the bars.
Step 4:
Now bend the bars at both ends and use a file to make some indents to increase the grip on the ice
Step 5:
Now comes the tricky part. You need to make some slits at the ends of the bars for the passing velcro bands. I did this before putting the rivets on.
Step 6:
Now pass both the velcro belts (hook and loops) trough the slits and fasten each other underside the bars between the rivets. I had to mold and shape them a bit with a solder to fit among the rivets.
Step 7:
You have done !!
Secure your new cheep crampons to your shoes or bring them with you and have a secure walk on the ice.
P.S.: sorry for my English. I did my best to to explain what and how I did it. ;-).
