Introduction: Witch's Brew and Cauldron

Witches are one of the first characteristics of Halloween that came into my life I guess. Witches, the green slimy disgusting brew, cauldron, a broom, those are among the classics. This time, I wanted to make a full combination of the brew and cauldron which are inseparable, as disgusting but delicious, smoky in a healthy way. The cauldron can be used as an incense holder after it completes its duty as a mug. And the brew is inspired by Grasshopper cocktail that you can enjoy any time.

Supplies

Witch's Brew:

  • 1 tbsp creme de menthe
  • 2 tbsp half&half
  • 1 tbsp vodka
  • 2 tbsp cream
  • 2 tsp brewed coffee
  • crushed ice
  • chocolate chips and treats
  • shaker
  • blender

Cauldron:

  • 250 g air dry clay
  • art knife
  • bowl of water
  • brush
  • black and white acrylic paint
  • school glue
  • cling wrap
  • a bowl to reference the shape of the cauldron
  • roller

Step 1: Make the Main Sphere

Take the half of the clay and knead it. Form a ball. Then spread cling wrap on the surface, clay can be sticky. Using the roller, spread the dough as 3-5 mm thick and cut a circle wide as 20 cm for lower half and a rectangle 35cmx4cm for upper half. Lay the cling wrap on the reference ball sizes 13 cm diameter, and cover with clay sheet.

First, form the lower half because if we cover all, we cant pull the bowl off without breaking the model.

Make the lower half first, live it to dry 1-2 hours to settle, then do the upper half, leave it to dry 1-2 hours.

Then merge 2 halves by using water, clay and glue. By using art knife, blend the edges of 2 halves. Leave it to dry couple more hours. Water will be your saviour during modelling and joining the parts. Make some small holes at the bottom of the lower half to allow incense diffuse.

Step 2: Sole of Cauldron

The sole is for holding the incense and fire decor. Take a small amount of clay and spread. Cut a circle as wide as you want. And cut a rectangle according to the circle's perimeter. Blend them with water and glue. Rest it 30 minutes.

Cut a small rectangle from the back of the sole. This will be an opening for incense and make a plug from the piece cut.

Step 3: Decorations of Cauldron: Handle

After 1 hour, in total of 4 hours, start decorations when the model is not too dry. You can see how blending works here, wet the surface and piece with the brush, blend them with art knife, smooth with the brush, glue critical points then it's ready.

Step 4: Decorations of Cauldron: Skull

Form bones and skull from clay, wet the surface and piece with the brush, blend them with art knife, smooth with the brush, glue critical points then it's ready.

Step 5: Decorations of Cauldron: Fire

Form 9-10 small ball of clay. Take one and spread it on your palm like a leaf. Turn down the model, focus on the sole. Wet the surface and piece with the brush, blend them with art knife, smooth with the brush, glue critical points then it's ready.

Step 6: Paint and Decorate

Leave the model for 24 hours to dry.

When it's completely dry, start painting as you like.

Decorations:

Spider: form those with clay; one ball for the head, one bigger ball for body. 8 sticks or legs. Leave it to dry for couple of hours.

Spider web: cut white strings varying in length from 3 cm to 6 mm. Take longest 8 of them and form a curved octagon by using glue. Then again, by using glue, string by string, form the web.

Step 7: Witch's Brew

In the shaker, put half&half, creme de menthe, vodka, crushed ice. Shake well. Strain it to a glass.

In a bowl, put half of the cream and whisk it with blender/mixer to form a foam.

In another bowl, put half of the cream and coffee, whisk it with blender/mixer to form a foam.

Step 8: Assemble

Take a glass fits in the cauldron. Pour the brew. Place the whipped creams randomly. Add chocolate and dressings.

Burn the incense and place it on the plug then put in the sole of the cauldron.

Enjoy!
