Introduction: Wood Veneer Phone Holder/Speaker Booster From Vacuum Bag
In this step by step process we will show you how to create a modern and sleek phone holder using veneer and a vacuum former. You do not have to make the same design as i do as this is only for example. With the design I chose it also boosts the sound creating a speaker effect
Step 1: Materials Needed
- Wood Veneer
- Vacuum Bag
- Netting
- Glad Wrap
- Stanley Knife
- Araldite
- Former
- Tape
- Rubber Bands
- String
- Pump
Step 2: Make a Former
You need the former so the veneer knows what it has to wrap around and also to provide support to the holder while in the vacuum.
Step 3: Sizing the Veneer
You need to cut the veneer to the size of your project while being cautious with it because it is very delicate. Create three identical pieces that can be ready for gluing
Step 4: Gluing the Layers
Use the araldite to glue the layers together to strengthen the veneer. You have to manage your time wisely because the glue sets relatively fast.
Step 5: Putting the Veneer Onto the Former
Wrap the former in glad wrap so it cant get stuck to the veneer. While the araldite is still wet press it around the former and secure it with tape or rubber bands. Then place glad wrap over the whole thing.
Step 6: Put the Former/Veneer Into the Vacuum Bag
Place the former/veneer into a net and then into the vacuum bag making sure you place it underneath the nozzle.
Step 7: Vacuuming the Bag
Properly airtight the bag and then take all of the air out of it using the pump. Make sure there is no air left.
Step 8: Enjoy Your DIY Phone Holder!
After 24 hours you should have a phone holder strong enough to hold your phone. If you need more support you can add pieces to the inside of the phone holder
