I had a some scrap cutoffs from previous projects, and decided to create a pendant. It was made from a piece of Mahogany and a piece of beach glass.

Step 1: Picking Out the Pieces.

I was lucky enough to find a piece of beach glass that looked like the bottom fin of the surfboard. The piece of wood was actually pretty rough with some cracks in it. I waited until I had the rough shape of the board before gluing the cracks.

Step 2: Cutting the Board to Size and Shaping It.

The finished pendant is 3" in length and 1" in width. It was cut with a Japanese pull saw to length. The scroll saw was used for the rough shaping. I used Titebond II to glue the two cracks. I clamped it and let it dry overnight before sanding and finish shaping.

Step 3: Trimming the Glass

I flattened the bottom of the glass to help with the glue up. I also used a small round gouge to rough out a small holl for the glass to go in.

Step 4: Sanding

I started with 80 grit for the major part of the shaping. Then used 100 and 150 grit to get the final shape. At this point I wanted to drill the hole for the cord, and to add a shark bite to the side of the surfboard before final sanding and finish..

Step 5: Shark Bite

I used a 1/2 " Forstner bit in my cordless hand drill for the shark bite. I let the bit hang off the board slightly to get the shape I wanted. Also drilled a small hole for the cord. Using the triangular file made adding the teeth marks a lot easier, then a small flat file to finish it.
