Hello guys!

In this instructable I will show you how you can make your own wood building blocks! It's really easy to make and really fun to play with! Let's go!

Step 1: Preparing the Lumber + Blocks

We'll start by cutting the lumber. For the blocks we'll need 38mm x 38mm stock.

I'm planing them down on both sides to the right thickness to get rid of the sawmarks.

Sand them smooth before you cut them into blocks. I'm using tape to prevent tear-out.

Cut all the 38mm blocks on the miter saw. Using a stop-block comes in really handy!

Step 2: The Dowels + Finishing the Blocks

To connect all the blocks I'm using 9mm dowels, 10mm length.

To finish the blocks we'll be cutting a 9mm hole on each side of the blocks. We'll drill it 8mm deep. Knock off the edges on the belt sander.

Tip: You can also make some triangles so you can make more things like roofs for houses.

Step 3: The Box for the Blocks

For the box I used 11cm wide x 14mm thick wood. My box will be 25.8cm x 25.8cm. I'm using 45° miters to put the box together. To reinforce the box I'll use 5mm dowels, so drill 5m5 holes on each side. Cut them off on the bandsaw and sand them flush.

For the bottom and the lid of the box I'll use 8mm thick plywood.
For the bottom trace the inside of the box onto the plywood. And for the lid trace the outside of the box onto the plywood. And cut it out on the bandsaw or the tablesaw.

Before you assemble everything, be sure to sand everything smooth!

Glue in the bottom with wood glue. For the lid I made 6mm thick x 12mm wide slats to go around the box.

To finish everything I'm using mineral oil.
