Introduction: Wooden Toycrane
I built dozen of these during the holiday season. Mostly to give as presents. I designed this to be simple to make and easy to pack. The crane is constructed in 3 main parts : Base, middle frame and upper parts. This allows the crane to be packed in a much smaller box. Main material is beech wood.
Step 1: How Make It
In this video I tried to cover all steps which are required to build your own crane. If you want to skip to the assembly part of the toy, jump directly to 4.13 mark in the video.
Step 2: Technical Details
Material list.
- Beech wood
- Jarrah wood
- 6/8 mm dowels
- 40,30 and 25mm M5 bolts
- Small nail (Reel handle)
- 25mm wooden beads and steel hook
- Neodymium magnets
- 2,5mm polyester cord
If you want to print out the blueprints I highly recommend downloading both files (see step 3). In Google Sketchup you can print them in the right scale.

I love that you have a magnetic pick up as well as the hook. You could make a set of construction blocks with small magnets and maybe a few with loops or bars the could be picked up with the hook.
