Introduction: Amazing Yoghurt Pot Drone: an Easy and Environmentally Friendly Toy

About: I'm a french student, I like doing 3D design. I love drawing too, and playing Chess.

Hello,

Today I'm going to show you how i did this drone. At first, I didn't know if it would work or not so follow along until the end. The idea came to me one night when I finish eating, what can I do with an yoghurt pot. The making is not too complicated so anyone can do it.

And I put this instructable in this contest because it meets the criteria: transform mundane objects into something awesome.

So let's start!

Supplies

Almost all the objects we are going to use can already be in your kitchen or your garage. We will need:

An A4 paper (optional)

Yoghurt pot

One or two paper cup: it depends if you want to have part of the cup label or not

Iron wire: 2,50$

Rubber bands: 0.60$

Gel glue or glue gun

Adhesive tape (optional)

A drill

Cutting pliers

Ice cream stick

Used pen

2 Toothpicks

Drawing pen

Something to color (optional)

Step 1: Yoghurt Pot

First, take your yoghurt pot and remove the cover. Then take a strip of paper what is the same size as the cover. Then glue it in place of the cover. Now you have a blank place where you can customize your drone.

The yogurt pot brings us 3 main advantages: it is very light, it is rigid and we recycle instead of printing a new pot.

Step 2: Paper Cup

Now take the paper cup, and trace your propeller. You can trace with a paper to have the same shape on the propellers. We will need 4 propeller.

What's good about the paper cup is that it's already slightly domed wich will improve the lift of our drone.

Step 3: Propeller

To assemble the proppeler, take the toothpicks (or 2 sticks of 7,2 cm), then apply glue to one end, and glue one of the propellers, apply glue to the other end and glue another propellers on this but a little leaner than the one before to have enough lift to make our drone take off. Repeat the same steps with the second toothpick, then let them dry. When it's dry, assemble the two propellers to make one with 4 blades and glue it, then let it dry. And your propeller is done!

Step 4: Rubber Band Holder

We just need the old pen ink cartridge so separate it from the other components. It will serve to stiffen the wire. So cut a wire about 7 cm; using the cutting pliers, round the end a little so that it forms an arc and add a little and add a small piece of pen ink cartridge. Using a drill, make a hole in the middle of the ice cream stick. Then bring in the wire, so it has a space for the rubber band to go in, as the picture above. Then glue it, and let it dry. Finally, wrap the rest of the wire around the stick, to strengthen the wire, add a glue and let it dry.

Step 5: Propeller Holder

Take another wire about 7cm again, and round the end a little so that it forms an arc, and put a rubber band in the arc. Then, in the middle of the yoghurt pot, make a hole. Now, pass the wire trough the hole, so that the rubber band is in the yoghurt pot. and add a piece of pen ink cartridge on the wire and put some glue to hold it together and let it dry. Finally, put the center of the propeller on the pen ink cartrige and glue it. Do not hesitate to put a lot so that it becomes very rigid. And let it dry.

Step 6: Finishing

Our drone is almost finished. Now take the ice cream stick, and attatch the rubber band on the wire of the stick. Then, apply glue tothe stick so that it attaches to the yogurt pot. then let it dry. Feel free to add tape to reinforce it. Finally, remove the ends of the yoghurt pot and the stick to improve the aerodynamics of the drone.

The mechanism of this drone is very simple, turn the propeller to stretch the elastic, after you release the drone, then the rubber band will relax and will spin the propeller, wich will allow the drone to fly.

Step 7: Try

Now your drone is done! As you can see below, it flies very well.

For those who ask the question of the yogurt pot wich turns instead of the propeller, I tried to add fins to slow down the movment of the yogurt pot but it did not work at all but weighed it down for nothing. If your propellers does not turn very well it may be because of the rubber bands, so use 2 rubber band instead of one.

That's all for today, I hope you liked it and that it was useful or gave you inspiration. Thanks for reading, and bye.
