Intro: Zip-Tie Tags

This is a simple way to label all your wires!

For $7.50 at amazon you can get 50 zip-tie tags with assorted colors.

STEP 1: Before

I was using masking tape to label the wires which wasn't very effective. They would fall off and leave behind a sticky residue.

STEP 2: Making a List

1. List out all the wires that need labels.
2. Find someone with better handwriting to label each tag.

Note: I used different colors to distinguish between the upstairs and basement wires.

STEP 3: Zip and Clip

Finally zip on each tag to its corresponding wire.

Clip off the extra slack and you're done!

STEP 4: Thank You!

My mom gave me 4 thin-plastic file-boxes; I had no use for them as boxes, so I cut strips from the lids and made tags that way. It worked perfectly in many ways -- each box/lid is a different color, I had zip-ties to match each color, and there are 4 of us in my family. We each have our own color-coded tags for our electronics.

I love zip ties for so many things and loved this! I also love ice-cream and buy it at my favorite food market in one gallon plastic buckets. I use a lot of the buckets with lids for knit/crochet projects.

I just took a couple of the lids and with a razor knife (you can use stout scissors), cut strips for the size of labels you want, punch a hole, scuff up if you want, use a sharpie and write whatever. I scuffed mine and use fingernail polish. The polish also gave me color coding with ease.

I already have a ton of zip-ties, but none with the tags on them. Any ideas on how to add my own little tags... what might work best? And good luck with the contest, you have my vote - great idea for all our phone and Kindle chargers!

I was thinking that the plastic tags from bread and potato bags might work . Cut off the pointy -bag grabbing end, punch a hole, thread through the cable tie. Might have to scuff the plastic to get a fine point permanent marker to stick, or use a scribe or engraving tool.
