Chocolate Microwave Cake

Intro: Chocolate Microwave Cake

A couple weeks after I figured out regular microwave cake I had a serious craving for chocolate cake. I needed it! While I've got a lovely recipe for a gigantic chocolate cake, I wasn't feeling too excited about baking for an hour after work. :)

This chocolate microwave cake recipe is nearly exact to the original microwave cake, but we're subbing out a little flour for cocoa powder!

STEP 1: Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 6 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
Typically I don't really get too technical with the measuring of flour via tablespoons, I just put 2-3 tablespoons of the cocoa powder in a 1/2 cup measure and then throw the flour in on top. :D

And speaking of cocoa powder - the better you use here the better it will taste! I highly suggest Callebaut baking cocoa. I ordered some for the test kitchen and I loooooove it.

STEP 2: Mixing!

Mix together the melted butter and the sugar, and then add in everything else!

Whisk it together until it's really smooth and creamy.

STEP 3: Pour Into Ramekins/mugs

Spray your ramekins with cooking spray or smear some butter inside.

Divide the mixture in half between two ramekins or mugs.

STEP 4: Microwave!

Cover each ramekin with plastic wrap - leave a little vent on one of the edges.

Pop them in the microwave for 60 seconds. Make sure to do them one at a time!

(My microwave at home is 600W, and the one in the test kitchen is 1000W - and there was only a five second difference in cooking time.)

Once they're out, let them cool slightly and then turn them out onto a plate.

STEP 5: Enjoy!

You just made a five minute chocolate cake that tastes like chocolate cake! HOORAY!

Thanks to Nicole and Wade for helping me finish this one off. :D

Yep! I use that at home sometimes. :)

You might want to up the amount of it if it's not chocolate-y enough by a half tablespoon, though!
sounds delicious. I hope I can make it soom.
I put more sugar and more cocoa for more chocolate! I am going to try it with some chocolate chips mixed with the cocoa!
