There have been a few contest you already missed out on ;)
And you don't really need a contest to publish your Ibles.
Posting them just to enter a contest is like playing Lotto because you know your ticket will win ;)

The compromise is to do the projects you want to do independent of contests and then just hold off publishing them until a relevant contest opens up because you're right, in that if you're creating just to try and win then it's unlikely to have the heart necessary to win. If you really have a quality project and write-up then posting it without entering a contest is like buying tickets for yesterday's lotto.

OP: As far as 3D printing contests, there are 1 or 2 specific to that every year and several that might include a special judges prize for printed entries. That being said, you can enter a printed project into any contest to which the end goal of the project is relevant, it doesn't have to be specifically a 3d printing contest.
