2 projects, 2 questions. help? Answered

Hi everybody i have 2 new projects i am working on, and i had some questions about them: 1-wirelessly (bluetooth) controlled LED So this is more or less a starter project, i just got a new laptop with bluetoth and i want to experiment, i figured being able to turn an led on and off via bluetooth would be a good start. 2-Webcam that fits in a PCMCIA slot filler card I think that this project has a better chance of actually being finished than the one above... along with my new laptop, i got one that had a broken screen, it also had a built in webcam. (acer travelmate 5530, the bottom will be used in some other project) I removed the webcam and later i had the thought that maybe it was thin enough to fit in a pcmcia slot. almost. the question here is if i sanded down the plastic parts on the top of the lens (not the lens itself, there is a bit of plastic that bevels around the lens) to the point where it would be thin enough, could someone help me find a pinout of the webcam? all i know is that its usb 2.0, but the connector has 5 wires, 2 of them are ground, but the data + and - and vcc are unknown, the wire colors are different than a normal usb color code. I cannot upload pictures quite yet but i will as soon as i can.

What can I do with a Pentium II processor that I found?

I found the motherboard of a computer in a dumpster, and I picked it out so that I could work on my desoldering skills. There was a Pentium II processor (in perfect condition-probably still works), but my computer uses a Pentium 4 processor. Our computer is VERY slow, and is there a way to annex the processor I found with my Pentium 4, and would this speed up my computer? If not, what could I do with this?

2.5 HD Enclosure case copying files from Internal 2nd HD, 2.5 case stopped working, help ?

I recently purchased a 2.5 HD Enclosure Case with USB cables and it worked fine while reading an old 2.5 HD that I inserted in it. Was the HD that I was copying to ruined or can I restore it in a procedure ? I would really appreciate anyone's assistance to fix the problem with the 2.5 HD Enclosure case that is not being seen on my computer, even tho the red light is on noting that it is connected via USB. DIY Light pen- how tosend absolute position & pressure to PC/software? Answered

I'm planning on converting an old CRT monitor to use a light pen. I have the hardware side of things largely figured out, so I can get an absolute position of the pen on the screen and a pressure value, but I don't know the best way to go about getting those values into the PC or software. Ideally, I'd like to use R-S232 or PS/2 to connect to the PC, in both of which the cursor could be homed by the hardware and then moved to an absolute position by keeping track of the relative positions sent, all using the standard drivers, albeit without a pressure input. However, I have found this specification for synaptics touchpads, which provides information on using their driver to send more data (including pressure) over the PS/2 or serial connection, but I can't tell if the absolute mode is intended to work as I want it to, or if is simply to catch and correct any bad position reports. I also doubt this pressure input will be recognised or used by any software. The only alternative I can see is USB, which looks horrible to try and implement, and still doesn't look as though it will support a pressure input with the standard drivers. Ideally I'd like to try to emulate one of wacoms touchscreens, as this would allow me to use their drivers, allowing it to be compatible with most software, though so far I have been unable to find any information on this, and don't expect that I will be able to get it without borrowing a tablet and watching the communications with the PC. Which interface would be best, and does anyone have any suggestions regarding drivers? Thanks in advance for any help.

RPi2: OSMC Terminal Issue

I am trying to make some changes to OSMC through the terminal, but there is an issue with the login portion of it. When I quit OSMC, and wait for the boot screen, I hit Esc, and it goes into the terminal. Next, the login. I enter "osmc", then its to the password. But, it refuses to let me type anything in when I get to this stage. If I hit enter, it tells me that my password is wrong and then it goes back to prompting me to login. After about 15 seconds, it just continues to boot into OSMC. Why on earth will it not let me enter a password, and how do I fix it?

So one day my speakers, scanner, and internet stopped working (about a week ago). I fixed the internet by reinstalling the driver, and I'm too lazy to reinstall the driver for my scanner. But what I'm most concerned about is that my sound doesn't work. I've tried reinstalling the drivers a couple times, and it works perfectly, except it doesn't work, lol. It's fine until it says restart my computer, after it does it it boots up like the driver didn't do anything. I'm using a realtek driver, I've both tried installing it off of the cd that comes with my computer and downloading the driver straight off of their site. I NEED SOUND!!!!

Problems with Modern Warfare 2 (PC)

Ok so i just bought MW 2 on Steam and after i installed it and clicked play on single player, it would crash. How can you make a homemade ps/2 to usb converter for a ps/2 keyboard without buying one?

I have spare usb cords, and I am pretty sure my keyboard has a four pin connector, but just in case, i would like to know how to do it with four or six, or whatever the standard is.

1/8 w resistor for 12v?

Hi, I've been trying to add a LED light for my glove box, since it didn't come with any. I bought one radio shack led with built-in 1/8w 680ohm resistors to see how it was made. I read the 1/8w resistor wouldn't work and it would burn up? Using something like 1/2w would be better. I tested it with a 9v battery and I didn't feel it getting hotter. Maybe just warm? I got some LEDs off ebay many years ago and I have no idea what their specs are. They are 3mm led bulbs. I decided to make my own by using 5 1/8w 150ohms resistors. 150 ohms are the only resistors I have on hand. With the combined resistance of 750 ohms, how much voltage is going to the LED? Will I be fine with just using 4 150 ohms resistors? Will is be dangerous to use the 1/8w resistors? I don't want a fire. Will having more resistors also help spread out the heat among the resistors? I drive 4 hours a day, so the light will only be on for that duration. Thanks

Please help me fix this storage problem on my android 4.4.2 phone? Answered

Hi, I bought a new (cheap) "AKAI Dragon" android "kit kat" phone, and when I tried downloading more then a few apps, it said that there isn't enough storage on my internal memory. SO, I went to settings -> storage, and selected "phone storage" as the default write disk, and rebooted. Except that didn't work! "Phone storage" was still selected, but nonetheless when I tried downloading apps, the same problem appeared, with a window telling me to either uninstall existing apps, or to go to storage settings. Now, I did/checked everything I could think of for 3 days: as I said, I changed the default write disk, I tried moving existing apps to phone storage myself, but the button was not "active", I even rooted my phone and got rid of all the social apps I didn't want, but no matter what, when I try to install an app rom the play store, I'm met with the same message sending me to storage settings. Every time when I check storage settings, "phone storage" is selected as default write disk, but when I go to app settings, I discover that all of the apps are installed on "Internal storage" with no possibility to move them... (note that I rebooted my device multiple times while changing settings) What is worrying to me is that you cannot even choose "Internal Storage" as a write disk; there is only phone storage and SD card. So, does anyone have an Idea as to how I can start downloading apps to my almost empty 1.5 GB phon storage??? Or is this just a major bug? PS. please note that I'm not unfamiliar with Android phones; this is my third AKAI phone, just a bit upgraded. Also, sorry for the length of the question. Thanks

3D or correctly 2.5D engravings on wood with a CO2 laser

Due a lack of correct forum sections I just post in the tech department, hoping the right people will find it ;) I did some tests with my CO2 laser cutter to find out how good or bad it works for 2.5D engravings. Turns out not too bad really. But during those tests I often noticed that I have areas where the wood is burnt while in areas with other power levels the wood is vaporised without charring, looks totally clean. So of course this meant further investigation on the topic but to my surprise my Google skills seem to get rusty as I could not find anything of use. As I am still planning to do a full Instructable on the topic of 2.5D engraving it was time to do more detailed tests myself. My machine uses an Arduino Mega as the controller, running on a modified MarlinKimbra release, so I had no problem adjusting all required parameters. Here are some of my findings so far: Once the power levels are high enough to do real damage to wood instead of just darkening it, there are levels that just vaporise the wood. I did not test the full power range but there seem to be several "sweet spots" for the power, above and below the wood will be burnt instead of a clean vaporising. Next step was to check this behaviour with changing PWM frewunecies for the laser firing. Started with a know power level that vaporises and adjusted only the PWM frequency. Lowering the frequency soon caused charring, increasing the frequency had very little effect. Next was a lower power level that with the original PWM frequency would charr the wood. Here lowering the frequency caused more charring, at quite low frequencies to the point that the kerf suffered massively. Increasing the frequency again allowed to find a sweet spot where the wood would vaporise rather than burn. So I am wondering if anyone else has done tests in this regard or knows of any links with more info?

Wiring 2 pots together?

Ok, so I am in the hobby of hobby grade rc. I am currently working on modding a ps2 racing wheel and foot pedals to work with a spare 2.4ghz remote I have for my cars. I got the steering wired up fine and it works good. Now for the somewhat tricky part. The foot pedals each have a potentiometer in them. They share ground and power, and have separate signal outputs. I have the right one wired in for the throttle just fine. On my micro car it was easy enough, just switch the throttle reverse switch and push the pedal and it goes in reverse. But most escs wont calibrate to that. How would I go about wiring them together? essentially I want to turn 2 pots into one big pot. So when I push the right one down it sends the signal for forward. When I take off the right one and push the left one down, it signals reverse. I could bring my micro controller into the mix, but I really dont want to for something that seems so simple. Plus it is on a serb right now. Any help?  Thanks
