Ok ! I bought an iphone with a broken charger connector , cut to three months later ( today) I have changed the connector and got the phone working. Didnt even think about there being a code on it. So like the complete nob that I am , I attempted the code three times , only to be locked out. now strangely enough I did reconnect to my computer at one point and it gave me the code screen again , not sure if thats cause i still had the phone in parts , and accidently disconnected a ribbon , or if thats what has caused the code screen to totally disaper. Well anyways , all the main advice I can find on google and on youtube about connecting to itunes , and putting it into the restore mode do not work , ie turn off phone , turn back on , but keep the home button down , I have tried numerous variations, numerous times and I cant seem to make it happen ???????? I managed to conntact the guy I got the phone from, and have 2 possible codes , but that dosent look like its going to help now ??? Any advice please,

Wasn't sure where to put this, thought it might be of interest to someone in here :) As a project, I set up my Raspberry Pi as a 3g internet Wireless AP to strip SSL from secure websites and harvest the login details. I wanted to show how easy it would be for someone to set up wireless AP providing free internet, with the equipment hidden - maybe in a backpack - and sit in a public place grabbing login details without anyone suspecting a thing. In the future I would like to do this while running the Pi from a battery bank. Guide to set up Raspberry Pi as a 3g Wireless AP Tutorial on writing BASH script to harvest login details

I am toying with the idea of getting an ebook reader, mainly for reading downloaded books such. Apparently the Kindle can show ordinary PDF files quite successfully, and is quite a reasonable price. I have a question, though, that Amazon haven't answered clearly - what web sites can it access? The Kindle has wifi, and there's a version with (free) 3G connectivity for downloading books. But, what websites will it access? Could I visit any website at all (such as Gutenberg Press, or even Instructables), or is it restricted to visiting Amazon's own ebook store? Would it be capable of accessing an email account? I can't get a straight answer (although I suspect the answer is that access is restricted, since access to Wikipedia is presented as a specific feature). According to Amazon's 3G coverage map, There is a decent signal where I live, where I work, and where my parents live. If I can visit whatever sites I like, the extra £40 for 3G would be worth it. If I can only visit "approved" sites, then I would stick to the wifi version and load up books by USB.

What is the cheapest way to get (preferably make) a device that receives 3G mobile and outputs it as standard Wi-Fi? I know that you must be able to buy devices that do this but i would believe that they would be quite expensive. thanks

I have "rebooted", updated the software and connected to iTunes but nothing has worked. I called the phone and it went into voice mail. I heard the camera "click" and when I connect to iTunes it allowed me access to the pictures on the phone. Is there a solution of there that I may try before I bring it to the Apple store? Thanks.

It seems like such a simple question, but I can't seem to find a clear answer. I seem to recall reading a while back that the 3G access was tied to the account, not the Kindle, so if you bought a used one the subscription wouldn't transfer. Other places seem to suggest that you have to somehow transfer its registration with Amazon. Amazon doesn't have any answers, they want you to buy a new one. And yes, I know not all Kindles are built for 3G access, let's assume that I'm getting one that is.

I've followed the steps that pretty much every online guide is saying, so please do not refer me to one of those. The QuickPwn screen says, "It appears to be successful," after my attempt at it, and my iPhone does a bit of configuring like normal, then when it gets to the time to reboot, it shuts off, then freezes at the start-up screen. It vibrates every once in a while, and eventually times itself out and tries again. This is about my 5th time trying it over 2 days. It worked once, the second time, but I had not restored it from a back up- it was just set up after you connect it to restore mode then restore it with the computer. That just means it was like brand new, out of the box with nothing on it.

I've had an ipod touch for a little over a year now and the left headphone output is no longer audible. I believe that it is due to a loose or slightly bent contact inside of my iPod, because if i wiggle my headphone connector in the iPod's female audio jack the left side audio will turn on and off. I have contacted Apple about the iPod (no longer under warranty) and have been told that the cases for iPod touches are crimped together, and so there is no way for them to open the iPod and replace the port. Any suggestions as to how i could fix my problem? I've been thinking of using a dental tool to pull the contact that is causing me issues outwards, but decided i would ask around before potentially worsening my port. Thanks! -Geo

I have an iPhone that suffered some water damage and no longer functions, the screen seems hardly affected so I wondered if it could be reused? Is it even theoretically possible (assuming it still works)? How might I go about testing it? would I be able to make an adapter to some usable connector? Sorry for the far-fetched idea but it seems like it would be very cool to reuse it like this. Thanks, fusorx

I was trying to figure out how to boast my signal coverage in my area, and a got an idea: to use a UHF amplifier, to pick up the towers signal and rebroadcast it. of coarse since things like WiFi, Bluetooth, and cellular 2G/3G/4G networks use two way radio, the signal can go back to the reviving end of the UHF amp, and get broadcasting to hit whatever tower. my phone should better recognize the tower, as if i just magically made a tower 2 feet away. however this might also amplify stay noise. if this idea doesn't work, why not? i think i am going to need at least a 20dB increase in power, but as of now i need to do more research. but if i can buy a product that does a similar thing for less than $40, i would. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_zone_(cell_phone)#Dead_zones http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repeater http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_spectrum (cellphones use UHF spectrum) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Signal_booster

When I open youtube to watch any video, and I am connected to the WiFi in the house, I get all the quality options available to me: 144p, 240p, 360p, 480p, 720p, 1080p, and occasionally original (usually reserved for 4K resolutions?) However, when I use my phone's 3G/4G and wirelessly tether that to linux, I do not get all 6-7 quality choices. 144p, 480p, and 1080p are missing. speedtest.net shows tethering 4G to my computer shows a 3-8 Mbps down with ~70ms latency. the WiFi in the house is CenturyLink DSL, and can get as fast as 1.5Mbps with latency ~50ms at best, it can sometimes get very slow and I am forced to switch to tethering my phone's 3G/4G. Also, it is worth noting that the 360p quality appears more compressed, The amount of "boxiness" (MPEG reduction) is annoyingly high. (poor quality) While the phone is in 3G, I can't even watch 720p quality, the lowest quality that allows one to make out a faces in the video. It does not appear to be Chrome, the browser I'm using or flash video, as it is also true with the HTML5 player.

An Amazon Kindle book-reader is rising rapidly up my list of gadgets-to-get. A probably-dopey question, but: can you transfer files to the Kindle by USB (the published specs mention a USB charger, but not USB file-transfer) or are you restricted to the Whispernet thing? And, since it has both a Wi-Fi connection and a 3G connection, has anybody turned one into a Wi-Fi hotspot?

I have 2 GSM 2G Sims card listening devices which is not capable to work on 3g or 4g network.. Since cell phone companies now require a 4g sims card and the listening devices have not advance to work on the 3G or 4G network, I need to convert my device to work on a gsm/wcdma. Rather than starting over, typing each character from my contacts, memory, photo files, it sure would be nice to just do a data transfer from my desktop. I know that the iPhone uses the iTunes as a "home base" when transferring data and music. (Sync'ing...I believe is the correct term.) I'm not good with compooters. LOL!

I use a bluetooth headset at work. problem is, no one can tell when i'm on the phone. i need a simple light to go on when the call comes in, and go off when i hang up. simple, right? i have an iphone. i tried one of those light-up keychain fobs, but they don't work on 3G. don't really know what they work on anymore. i tried a simple manual light switch, but that was too cumbersome. i'm thinking that it should probably be something like a bluetooth - oriented thing, or possibly something that can plug into either the power port or headphone port of the iphone. any ideas?

Recently received a $150.00 gift certificate from instructables and was initially looking for a e-book type reader. Soon discovered some offer video as well, oooh video. Of course none of these are of the e-paper type and are all lcd type displays so battery life wouldn't be great. Can anyone recommend a tablet that works well as an e-book and also streams video as well. 3g is of no importance as it is not supported in my geographical neck of the woods. WIFI is required though. In addition I am really trying to use just the 150$ for the item, I'll pay extra for the shipping.

Hello How do you do if you want to charge you sony ericsson cellphone with an iphone 3gs charger? If you plug your sony ericsson with an iphone charger it will act as if it´s plugged in to the computer and not charge. It´s because the iphone charger puts out voltage on the data pins, how do I bypass this? If I only hook up the VCC (5V)and Ground (not the data pins)the charger does not begin to charge my sony ericsson. What should I do? connect the data - and data+ to each other? Some great ideas come from taking a completely new gadget and making it something that looks like, and in this case sort of works like, something from the 19th century. This steampunk cell phone concept has no display. No 3G. No data plan. No games. It doesn't even have a dial pad. You make your calls with binary-coded punch cards, steampunk. All you get in this rugged brown package is an earpiece, (possibly faux) gauges, visible screws, and a spinning number-counter. Oh, and a hole punch every time you want to order a pizza. The project was developed for O2, aiming at the RPG player market (really!). I don't think it works. It would be cool if it did, but I don't think so...UnplggdOriginal designer
