Well I got down to buisness and started cuting the plastic shell, But after taking half of the black plastic off I found outthat It was filled with some type of hard whitesh -yellow cast. I dont know how to take that off. does any one know how to or should I just trash it?

Hi im doing a project for my brother for christmas. Its a Drag race track thing, I have it all planned. Buuuuuuut for the cars I am using a capacitor, and a motor rated for around 6volts. WHAT should the capacitor's capacitance be? A high capacitance or a low one? I have a charging spot on the track to charge the capacitor, and then the energy stored in the capacitor powers the motor for long enough time to make it to the end.(Which is only 3 feet). Note:I found a small car that does just that but the motor doesnt work and the capacitor doesnt show the capacitance on it and I used my multimeter but it said DisC. I will post a picture of it later if it even helps. :(

I am thinking about planting a hedge around our air conditioner condenser to increase its efficiency. This would serve as shade for the condenser and as a means to inject water to keep the plant cooling the air as it evaporates the water. When rainwater is available, an aquarium pump could "irrigate" the hedge. When not available, a switch could control a valve for a high-pressure drip irrigation system. Both could be controlled by the compressor circuit. Keep the hedge trimmed about 6 feet tall and with just enough space around the condenser for a workman to easily maintain the unit (at least 3 feet from the condenser). The hedge would have to be drought resistant and one that does not shed leaves or debris. Any thoughts about this?

Hi all! Hope I got the right place for this. I figured that there's someone in this community who can help me. My A/V receiver is about to give up the ghost. A number of channels no longer work, and the sound is pretty fuzzy. I know I need to replace it. I've always been terrible with A/V stuff. I'm not sure what direction to go as far as replacing it goes. Here's my issue: The room I have the receiver in is small, so I don't need a lot of oomph. I also don't have a way to run wires to rear speakers without people tripping over them. I've gone without rear sound for a long time now. I've never seen a set of wireless speakers that are reliable, so that seems like a poor option. I can't really do a "home theater in a box" setup, because they don't have enough inputs to add all of my stuff. The things that currently run through the receiver are my computer (which runs our TV through a tuner card), a wii, an xbox 360, and a dvd player. None of them are HDMI. I use RCA cables for everything. The other thing that looked interesting is a sound bar, as they can apparently replicate surround sound without the rear speakers, but they seem to have the same problem that the "theater in a box" packages have. I don't know anything about receivers. For example, I don't know if it makes sense to use a 5.1 receiver if I'm only running R, L, and Center speakers from it. Anyway... I'm not looking for brands or models necessarily, but rather, setup suggestions. What kinds of things should I be looking into? I can't be the only person with this kind of problem. Any advice that some of you A/V gurus can offer would be greatly appreciated! The cheaper the better, here... as I don't use it all that much. :) Thanks!

I recently joined the homemade firearms community and realized that the group is focused on highly illegal NFA weapon construction and i want no part of it. I thought this would be a group of mature law abiding amateur gunsmiths building legal single shot, bolt guns or semi-auto rifles and handguns but based on the few posts I read, this is not the case.

I have been asked to supply cool air to five kennels, adobe built, in a row. I am proposing to Build a funnel box around the inside unit to feed air through pipping (drainage/plumbing) to the individual units. The engineer/salesman has told me it is immpossible to do this and a much larger/expensive system will be required. Would any one care to comment on this ? I was planning to fit a small fan at the far end of the tubing to aid in the flow of air and take back pressure off the unit. As with most of the instructables I have seen here, I know this is not the "correct" way of doing the job, more of a hack but at the moment I have more time than money

I can see "water marks" on the edges of the screen. Can I replace it, where do I get it, and is it worth it? A solid THANKS.

I need to provide 12 volts DC to power a portable cooler that is used for travel. I would prefer to tap into my PC rather than use a wallwart. It seems that it was the yellow wire, anyway can I splice into the correct color and then ground to the chassis or to a black wire. Will I need a fuse?

I think it would be beneficial to create an A/V switcher that has power plugs for each of the slots in addition to the a/v components. So if you select #2 for example, it would power only #2 as well as display whatever is plugged in to #2. Could someone create a tutorial for this? Thanks

So I just built myself a new computer with the following specs gigabyte motherboard model: GA-MA770T-UD3P (rev. 1.0) phenom 2 tri core processor 4gb ddr3 mushkin ram radeon 4670 tp link wireless card 2 LCD's hooked up to the 4670 Windows 7 64-bit/ XP 64-bit (not at the same time) +tons of cooling so nothing is over heating I installed windows 7 and it kept freezing up every once in a while and I tried just about everything to fix it. Updating bios, cleaning the registry, making sure all the drivers are up to date, all sorts of things. So I thought it was Windows 7 giving me the problem. I uninstall windows 7 and installed windows xp. I loaded up everything got the drivers up to date and after a couple of hours it froze up. Then I rebooted and bam another freeze 3 minutes into being on the computer. And again the next time 15 minutes into being on the computer. Now Im not sure if the freezing is happening on windows 7 for the same reason as on Windows xp and it is driving me crazy not being able to use my new computer Any ideas on what I can do to fix the problem? Thanks for any help. Got some more details. 1) I noticed when I move a window around I my cp usage spikes from 1% to close to 30%. Not sure if this is normal but with tri core 2.8ghz doesnt seem like this is good. 2) When I have 3+ windows open and I drag them over each other it leaves a trail or shadow of its edge so it looks like I am dragging many windows. Sometimes this shadow is just white. 3) Also when I try to install a game the computer will always freeze before it finishes and most of the time right at the beginning. 4) When I press the button to force it to go off and then turn it back on it often just comes up with a black screen and I have to repeat. it always turns on the second time. How can I tell if it is my hardware? Just did a video stress test and benchmark. Everything was normal. Ran "cpu stability test 6.0". Watched it for 20 minutes then I left the computer and came back to see it frozen in screen saver. Speedfan temps- Temp 1- 26c temp2- 25c HD0- 26C core- 15c It is pretty cold in my room. I also found something that makes it freeze every single time I have done it so far. When trying to install world of warcraft as soon as I click agree in the install setup it freezes. 6 out of 6 times. My power supply is 500w "stable power"

I recently bought a 11kv, 30mA Neon Sign transformer. I can get nice arcs off of it and everything (maybe about 2 inches? when rectified it makes shorter high pitch arcs), but I'm wondering about protecting it. after a couple hours of playing with it there was a loud pop in the case and it stopped working. I opened it up (it was held together by rivets, I just drilled the rivets out) and it's a switched mode neon sign transformer. I thought it was a bit light! So I found a (transistor? To-220 case) that had it's face blown off, luckily I found the other piece and I'm going to order the component and replace it. So, is there a cheap easy way of preventing this happening? While opening the case I added a number of saftey features, a saftey switch, and a "ON" indicator.

I want to monitor an electric fence for signs of grounding or a break. I think the best way to do this would be to measure the current at the end of the fence, but I don't know how to convert a 6kV+ pulse into something a microcontroller can read. The pulse: 6kV+ about 100mA 1/300th of a second pulse 1 pulse per second Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have some familiarity with hardware and I'm good with Google, but the more detailed the better. Thank you for your time. Edit: I would like to continuously monitor the electric fence. The microcontoller would be left out in the shed and sound an alarm when the fence was grounded/broken for too long.

OK, I have disassembled a old electric tooth brush and I am trying to reduce the size and one of the things I have deemed unnecessary is the PCB that runs the timer built into the toothbrush. However, one thing I am wary of at this moment is that the toothbrush is a induction Charger which is a A/C and I don't know if I can just remove the board and be OK or do I need to rectify the current into D/C to continue charging the battery. If the latter is the case what do I need to achieve this?

I'm trying to make a simple circuit that goes like this: I want to have a sort of remote : 9v battery + resistor + ir led (i've done this part) And a reciever that starts a motor when i point the ir led to it. What components do i need to make the motor start when i point the led to it? Searching the internet i found i can do it with photodiodes or phototranzistors but i couldn't find the exact schematic for the circuit. Does anyone know how to do it?

The software I use at work interfaces with JAVA so the enter and info keys on the keyboard do not work within JAVA scripted panels that pop up with simple OK or YES or Cancel buttons. I have to physically grab the mouse and click the button I want to continue after the click. This slows me down immensely. I cannot change the script (it's commercial software) and cannot add any software to the PC because the PC's are locked down securely. Remapping keys is locked out as well. I want a wireless solution preferably USB that I can add the two keys above the arrow keys and below the word processing keys that only respond to the left click and right click of the mouse. I necessary I could use a wired version as long as it wouldn't interfere with my current wireless mouse/keyboard. Any ideas out there? Am I explaining this properly?
