Battery safety

Hi guys, I was wondering if it's dangerous to touch two wires hooked up to a 9v battery to each other. They heat up really quick, could they make the battery explode or do something else bad if left like that for any long period of time? I tried to search for the answer, but couldn't find it.

Battery power

I have a battery powered laser on top of a spinning disc. This laser runs out of battery fairly quickly, I need to make it last longer somehow. Could I wire the laser to multiple batteries to make it last longer? If i manage to find a mains powered laser then it spinning constantly wouldn't work as it would have a wire. I ideally need to find a way to power this laser (probably 2 lasers) for most of a day with something that fits on a fairly small spinning disc. Any ideas? Cheers

Batteries in a series?

So if you were building an electric car and needed to up your voltage by wiring multiple Pb batteries in a series would you only get the watt-hours of one battery like you do with capacitor capacitance, or would you get all of them combined, or at least a little power capacity boost.  Also, would using lithium-ion batteries like these in a series be ok. lithium

Paper Batteries

Has anyone read anything about the up and coming Paper (thin) batteries ? Paper Batteries: A paper battery is a flexible, ultra-thin energy storage and production device formed by combining carbon nanotubes with a conventional sheet of cellulose-based paper.A paper battery acts as both a high-energy battery and supercapacitor, combining two components that are separate in traditional electronics. This combination allows the battery to provide both long-term, steady power production and bursts of energy. Non-toxic, flexible paper batteries have the potential to power the next generation of electronics, medical devices and hybrid vehicles, allowing for radical new designs and medical technologies. What do you think? Will it replace these monsters one day?

Battery recommendation

Hello, I'm looking for a rechargeable battery for a project and I'm not having any luck finding a suitable one.  Here's what I need: The battery will need to be between 12 - 18v with between 1-2 amp.  This will be powering a set of speakers, so not really sure what type of amp hours I need.  The battery will need to fit into a tin lunch box.   An idea I had was to use a 12 or 18v battery for Power Tools - not sure if it will work though.  I also found this, http://www.altex.com/12V-Lithium-Ion-Rechargeable-Battery-Set-LBP-124500-P150057.aspx not sure if it is powerful enough though. Any thoughts/ideas is appreciated.

Will this battery explode??

Silly question, but I really wanna be on the safe side.  I just received this battery charger for my phone, but wanted to change the case, so i removed the original case.  Then I looked at the battery, and saw that the (-) of the battery is not soldered to the PCB at all, only the (+).  I know that lithium batteries are dangerous, so I just wanted to ask if it's safe to use. It was like that, I didn't accidentally rip it of. There are even no marks on the (-) connector sticking out from the battery. Can someone please let me know if it's safe to use?  I added some images pointing out the place and the board.  Thanks a lot for your help. George

Battery Wiring?

I have new Li-ion batteries for my mac but i wasn't completely sure on how to wire it up to the old circuitry. I know that "vg" is the ground and the "vp" is the positive. I am assuming "vl" goes to the wire "vl" i dont know what that is thought.  But there is a "vh" spot on the new battery but on the old circuitry there was no wire going to there? Do I solder that wire there? There is also two very thin wires labeled ntc, i can not find a spot on the old circuitry for that is it necessary?

Batteries and charger? Answered

So I got one of those one cell battery bank that come also with a little crank generator. So far I took both of these apart to make one into a 2cell. So now these batteries are a parallel, my ? is if the voltage stays the same with the charging board and the mah is double this should not effect the board correct? and or the batteries. So far its been working both batteries reads the same voltage so the charging board must work. Now hear is the thing that I am concerned with, if I was to add 6 more into a parallel then all batteries would be the same MAH right. This should not damaged the board?

Tablet with dead battery: buy a new battery or create a dummy battery?

Hi guys, I have an android tablet with a dead battery so it won't turn on (it hangs on boot screen). Like cellphones and smartphone, if I use the tablet with the wall adapter and without the battery won't start. The battery is a 3.7 v, 22.2 Wh (6Ah) type, it's dimensions are 0.45 x 11.3 x 10.5 mm. So I have a choice: I can buy a new battery or create a dummy battery. I've searched ebay, amazon and other site but unluckily seems that I can't find a replacement battery (or find a seller that can ship a similar battery to italy). In the other hand, I don't know how to create a dummy battery. Can you help me with finding a replacement battery or teaching me how to create the dummy battery? Thanks in advance :)

Batterys in parallel and in series? Answered

I am designing a circuit with some space restrictions. Unfortunately i can only put 3 AAA batterys in it. I need at least 1.8 volts for the circuit to be operational, so 2 AAA NiMh batterys in series is rated 2.4 volts. If i have this can i also add a single parallel battery, for added Mah. The diode i will be using has a forward voltage drop of .33v at 1 amp. These batterys will have a load of about 500 Ma. Will the (very bad) schematic i have work? Also, will the output voltage of the batterys be somewhere around 3v? One more question, will the load be shared between the batterys?

DIY Laptop Battery

I bought a second-hand, cheap laptop but it doesn't have a battery. It's an HP Compaq Presario V6000 series. I don't want to spend on getting a new battery right now. Or, if I get a cheap China made battery in the near future, is there a way to charge that Li-ion battery using the Ni-Mh cells, when it goes low and there's no electricity? Please advise if something like this exists or if someone already made it. Regards, RS

Laptop Battery Status? Answered

I have a Dell Latitude E6400 that may or may not have a good battery (I bought it used on eBay). I noticed that the battery status light blinks orange about 4 times, then blue and repeats. It does this when I have it plugged into AC. The manual says that if it is alternating orange/blue, it detects a non-Dell AC adapter. Alternating orange and steady blue means temporary battery failure. I'm not sure what the second option would look like. I have a non-Dell AC adapter.

Hack a laptop battery?

I have like 4 broken laptops laying around and i have been trying to decide what to do with them.  I had this thought and looked up some information about it.  In the battery is basically like 8 AA rechargeable batteries.  Well these broken laptops in question no longer charge their batteries.  I know i can crack open these batteries to get the AAs out.  But is there anyway to charge them once they are out?  I would be comfortable soldering if I have to.  I am very new to these instructables, but I know my way around electronics to fix them.  But this idea has me stumped.  But this could also give me a crap load of rechargeable batteries for my sons toys.  Thank you in advance for any information you could give me.

Can these batteries be salvaged? Answered

I was given these two Gel batteries but they are not taking a charge. Is there some way to recondition them so they can be usable again? These were installed in a solar cell  and wind generator remote radio relay tower. They were new when put in. The wind charger was at first hooked up wrong (Not me who did that) and the batteries kept going flat until it was corrected. They did freeze once but after being pulled and brought inside they took a charge and worked just fine. They only had a few months of operation when the tower was blown down and the project was scrapped. The batteries and all the other stuff went into a store basement. Now, 2 years later, I am given these batteries but they will not charge. I don't know what might have happened to them in storage. Physically they are in perfect shape. I left one on a battery charger for 1 1/2 days and its still dead. My meter does show it has 10.3 volts across the terminals but there is no real amperage. The other one I put on a better charger and set it to recondition the battery. It ran for 24 hours and that one is also still dead.  These are sealed, non spillable, maintenance free batteries. Is there any way to bring them back from the dead and get them working again?
