Javascript help?

After figuring out how to use arrays and turning them into strings, I now need to do floating point operations with the variable. To first I created an array: var = array1 = []; var = array1value = 0; then, I add tack in numbers and operations when the right button is pressed, satisfying the corresponding if statement. if ( condition_1 = true){ array1.push(1); } if ( condition_2 = true){ array1.push(2); } if ( condition_3 = true){ array1.push(3); } //(you get the idea) if ( condition_A = true){ array1.push("+"); } if ( condition_B = true){ array1.push("-"); } if ( condition_C = true){ array1.push("*"); } if ( condition_D = true){ array1.push("/"); } (did you notice I had to add quotes to the operators? otherwise I get errors.) Anyway, then I proceed to take the data inside the array, and 'compress' it into one string of characters. if (array1.length === 1){ array1value = array1[0].toString(); } if (array1.length === 2){ array1value = array1[0].toString() + array1[1].toString(); } if (array1.length === 3){ array1value = array1[0].toString() + array1[1].toString() + array1[2].toString(); } etc. you can see the pattern (also can anyone tell me how to convert all this redundant code into a nice for loop? I couldn't figure it out, so I just did the above all the way up to array.length === 13) Then finally, I make this appear as text on a output, and I can see the final value after pressing buttons and stuff, say, 534+902/21. So I would expect that if I save this in a new variable, that it will perform the math operation: except the new variable just returns the same exact thing: 534+902/21 var newVariable = array1value So I tried adding and subtracting some numbers from array1value, and the output of the newVariable is an error. I believe this is because although as text, array1value appears as 534+902/21, in actuality, it is *really* 534 + "+" + 902 + "/" +21. or maybe as "534+902/21." How do I force javascript to convert this back to 534+902/21? Also, please don't tell me to google it, or find java tutorials, I have already searched for half the day and don't want to watch 2 hour long videos on programming.

Calculating Pi using simple JavaScript

One day I was bored and wanted to calculate Pi for myself. After finding out the Leibniz formula for Pi. When it is solved for Pi one gets: Pi=4/1-4/3+4/5-4/7... And so on since it's an infinite series. Since one can see a pattern that can easily be defined I concluded that a simple program using a loop could be made. I decided on using JavaScript for its ease of use and use a for loop. The program I made at first was mainly: var Pi=0; var n=1; for (i=0;i<=1000;i++) { Pi=Pi+(4/n) n=n+2 Pi=Pi-(4/n) n=n+2 } Where the variable "Pi" is the value of Pi, "i" is the number of times the loop is repeated, and "n" is just a variable to help in the formula. This I however found could further simplified to: var Pi=0; var n=1; for (i=0;i<=1000;i++) { Pi=Pi+(4/n)-(4/(n+2)) n=n+4 } Of course the more times the loop is repeated, the more accurate your value of Pi gets, and while 1000 may seem like a large number, the value of Pi which it calculated is wrong after the 3rd decimal point. I've had it repeat over 100,000 times and it gets more accurate, however, remember that making the number of repeats can slow down and even crash your browser (I speak from experience). If you want some ready made scripting, then here's some scripting I've made which lets you easily control the amount of loop repeats. It is based as an HTML document: //Made by Masterdude var c=0; function Calculate() { var c=prompt("Enter number of cycles:","0"); if (c>0) { var Pi=0; var n=1; for (i=0;i<=c;i++) { Pi=Pi+(4/n)-(4/(n+2)) n=n+4 } alert(Pi); } else { alert("Canceled or Error in input: Input must be positive."); } }

Finally, Javascript & DOM more powerfull than what I thought ...

.Hi ...I needed to quickly code a tiny tool-application, but I did not want to spend days and nights learning the API of a new GUI (under linux), neither I wanted to fight with usual C/C++ bugs, memory leaks and crashes, neither I wanted to learn a new scripting language like Python or Perl ...I wanted to do simple and fast, and if possible using my current knowledges : my webbrowser would do the GUI, and PHP would be my programming language.At first sight, I did not consider Javascript as a serious (or main) option, because I've kept very bad memories from Internet Explorer that I mistakenly considered as "the reference" ... But Mozila based browsers are more compatible with W3C than IE !So, finally, to my great surprise, I've made my app-tool 100% client side .......................... I don't even need PHP.However, when I run it on IE, it does not work as expected .....And my question is : for the sake of compatibility, what's the best strategy ?1) "downgrading" the scripts to make them compatible with every targeted web-browsers ?2) writing several version of the scripts, one for each web-browser ?Dilemma ... Biggest number ever? See for yourself! :P

Alright guys, I got bored, so I decided to make a stupid little thing that I origionally used to do with my calculator in math class. :) Actually, now I have to tell this crazy story.. :P Alright, so I used to do 1+1 a bazillion times in school to see how high i could get my calc to in 1 period of class. Then (since im a MAJOR geek) I got this AMAZING idea. I decided to hook the = button to a microcontroller with a reed relay from radio shack. So I went home, and did just that. I wish I had a picture of it. It was so cool. I let it go and go. :) Anyway, now to the stupid project I made in html/javascript. So, I made this just to "prove" that there is no "biggest number". Now, it doesnt actually find proof so it "could" be wring, but its not. :P Anyway, heres the link: http://bignumbers.co.cc/numbers.html Lol. Thats all I have 2 say. Easiest way to display tweets from different users without rewriting the code for every one separately

I am creating a web app that uses the tweet jquery plugin to display tweets of a specified twitter user.I have a list with some twitter users that I want to display their tweets, however it will be very difficult to rewrite the whole code for each one of the twitter users. Is there any way that I could only change the username when clicking on a specified link? Here is my code: jQTouch βt @import "jqtouch/jqtouch.css";     @import "themes/artspot/theme.css"; @import "extensions/jqt.listIndex/jqt.listIndex.css";                                   Tweetstars                      StarList                                                                  # 3 Ring Wing Ding                         14 Carrot Rabbit 90 Day Wondering                     A B                     C D                     E F                     G H                     I J                     K L                     M mairiboo                     N O                     P Q                     R S                     T U                     V W                     X Y                     Z                                                                               $(function(){ $(".tweet").tweet({                         username: "mairiboo", avatar_size: 50,                         count: 20, loading_text: "loading tweets..."                       }).bind("loaded",function(){$(this).find("a").attr("target","_blank");}); });

Coding Showdown - Programmers and Hackers, beware.

Hi all. I have created a password protected page, and I want YOU to break it. It's simple. It's in JavaScript. And it's waiting. Just: Go to (edit: page no longer exists. too late!), and - by any means - acquire my password. Ehhem. The winner might get something. Edit: I changed the password, due to a mistake on my part where it actually told you the password.

Instructables API-like features?

I'm working on a small little project, and I was wondering if there's some easy way for me to get things like views/rating/#ofcomments for an instructable easily. I've been using RSS feeds for now, but it doesn't have that data on the ible. I was thinking of using an XSLT on the page, but it isn't valid enough XML to work (not your fault at all, the javascript is throwing it off) So, is there some simple way that I'm overlooking to get views?

What is an Arduino and how do I learn programming it ?

Ok..so as to say..I know what an Arduino is. It acts like a small but cheaper and limited computer. I don't have one..but plan to get one.I just don't want to buy it before I know the whole background. What Language do I need to know to program it ? I am halfway through a C++ tutorial if that helps. I am gonna jump to C# or Javascript after that..I don't know C though.

A-Jax - Speed - Web Developers

Why use slow flash when faster better ways are there? AJax is great, fast, and does the job. Here is some simple code for your site: xhr = (window.XMLHttpRequest) ? new XMLHttpRequest() : new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.xhr"); xhr.open("POST or GET", "PAGE-URI", 1); xhr.onreadystatechange = (function() { Code to run for the result.. }); Simple yes? My site uses the code above but within lots more Javascript hacks included. My site is http://sitegen.com.au/ My js file is minimized so to get to the code just goto http://sitegen.com.au/js.php?min=false and the same deal with my css file..

Why do instructables pictures never work as they are supposed to?

Anyone else notice the two javascript errors written into every instructable? Why has nobody fixed this? One of the errors is a simple problem of someone forgot a '}' but the other error is a more annoying one. 'imageSpot is undefined'. The upshot for my old computer, as well as my other newer home computer, is that images do not desplay correctly. I can see the thumbnails, but clicking on the images does nothing. Its extremely infuriating to read a great instructable, complete with lots of images and not be able to see the details on any one image! Why has this not been addressed! Just define the damn variable, and fix the bracket and we can all read instructables in peace. Thanks, -Mike

How makey "wrap around" bg/banner in blogger? Answered

I'm having a bit of trouble trying to figure out how to do an awesome background/header in Blogger that rolls beyond the width of the columns and doesn't get off-center/out-of-line with the blog content when the browser is resized. You can see the problem here: http://dangerplants.blogspot.com/ The blog isn't done or anything. It's just an example of what happens the browser is resized, and it bothers me a lot. I don't know if the column code needs to be adjust or the background code needs to be changed or what. I'm not good at CSS, and I don't know JavaScript, which blogger allows. I'm attaching a rough idea of what I'd like to be able to do. Les sigh.

Tessel: a new quick-prototyping microcontroller, programmable in JS

I haven't been very active on Instructables lately because I've been a part of starting a company (technical.io)! I thought the Instructables community would want to see: Tessel is an internet-connected microcontroller programmable in JavaScript that enables developers to extend the reach of the web to physical things. Since Tessel is compatible with Node.js and leverages the Node Package Manager, adding additional capabilities is as easy as plugging in a Tessel module and npm installing its firmware. Get Tessel and start making smart, internet connected devices! We have eight days left of crowdfunding: http://www.dragoninnovation.com/projects/22-tessel, so you can see our whole story there. Since Instructables still has a claim on my heart, you've got an open line to me if you have any questions. Miss you! Selkeymoonbeam

my websites cookies are being disabled by my dot.tk domain extension, will.com do the same thing?

Hello, currently i am making an online store for which i require cookies , soon i plan on giving my site a .com domain name, but for now im keeping it as .tk. however, after finnaly learning how to use cookies, i found my .tk extension somehow blocks cookies from being used by the website! is there a way to fix this? and when i buy a .com extension, will it do the same thing? heres a link to my testing site, without the .tk extension http://ombj.uphero.com/jpoopdog/testing%20site/cookie.html and here is a link to the site with the extension jpoopdog.tk click on the "testing site " link at the bottom of the page. the .tk url remains the same all throughout the site odly! all javascript used is on the pages themselves, and can be viewed via view page source in your web browser. i am not using any .js files for this, and do not wish to either.

Firefox Scrapbook and Instructables "view all steps" issue

I take the internet with me when I travel. I use Firefox portable, on my thumbdrive to make sure it comes to me the way I'm used to. I also use ScrapbooK(http://amb.vis.ne.jp/mozilla/scrapbook/) add-on to keep local copies of the fun stuff I run across(for offline perusal when i DON'T have i-net access or just for archiving)Here's my dilema. For each instructable STEP, I get to choose only one image to archive full size. I'd like to be able to archive ALL the images in a given step.Scrapbook DOES do javascript capturing... but the extra images aren't captured. So if i manually save the images, and put them in the right place, the scrapbook page will switch correctly, but that just takes SO LONG! Please help if you can.(PS, NEVER capture at a depth of more than 1. it'll quickly turn into a game of six degrees of kevin beacon and you'll end up downloading half the internet!)

why is my domain parked on instra and not my website? Answered

Hello, i just bought the domain www.jpoopdog.com, and likewise, jpoopdog.com, and as soon as it was set up, i had an issue, and the support staff simply said it was out of their hands, and could do nothing. i set up my domain with onlydomains.com, and selected my webhosts nameservers n01.000webhost.com, and n02.000webhost.com, and all went well. www.jpoopdog.com was directed to my site ombj.uphero.com, but just jpoopdog.com, on the other hand was not, whenever i go to it, it says, domain parked by instra, and now, www.jpoopdog.com, does it too. the strange thing is though, www.jpoopdog.com/index.html, my homepage, works. why cant i access my own site i payed for, using the domain name i bought? also, on another not distant enough topic, why doesnt javascript work on firefox? more specifically cookies. my testing site (http://www.jpoopdog.com/testing_site/cookie.html) , works fine offline and on internet explorer, but not firefox, how do i make it firefox compatible?

If I want to convert the number 2, 5, 7 into 257, and also do the inverse (257 to 2, 5, 7)? how do I do that in code?

If I want to convert the number 2, 5, 7 into 257, and also do the inverse (257 to 2, 5, 7)? how do I do that in code? I have considered using math to do this: 2, 5, 7; 2*100 + 5*10 + 7 = 257; but This will only work with numbers with X number of digits. I need to to work with a variable amount of numbers in an array or stored in separate variables. Also, I need to do the reverse, so how would I go about doing that? particularly in C, arduino, and Javascript. If anyone wants to know why I need to do this, I am trying to program a simple calculator app in java, and I would find this useful with the arduino too. I am learning programming here, and this is currently the calculator app: https://www.khanacademy.org/cs/calculator/5724205359824896. It is not finished, but I got over 200 lines of code to draw out the buttons and screen, and make them interactive. I need a way to capture the presses of the buttons and store them in arrays that when an operator is pressed, a new array is created with more numbers inside it and those numbers are joined together.
