How do I restore individual Outlook Express .dbx files? Answered

Hi, I have recovered files from a blown hard drive and there are 100's of .dbx files found in the email section.(These are what the recovery software thinks are Outlook Express folders). When you try import them through the OE6 interface, there's always an error. It appears that it's looking for a mail "Store" which is composed of a group of related .dbx files. But I have individual .dbx files. So, how can I read the individual files contained within each .dbx file and restore my recovered emails (Sent, Inbox,

The instructable newsletter via e-mail on Windows 7 with Windows live mail - no images, no links.

The instructable newsletter via e-mail works fine on Apple Mail on my Macs, but not on Windows 7 with Windows live mail - no images, no links.  What can I do to fix that?  I  have checked all the preferences (settings) and can't seem to find the problem.  No error message pops up, either.  I like using our little Toshiba Netbook to check my mail, and the Instructables e-mail is the only one that gives a problem. Actually, an error message does show up if I click on one of the links.  The link itself looks like this when I copy it to the clipboard: wlmailhtml:{9A62DA93-D7CD-479C-B7FD-C98967C8DBC0}mid://00001245/!x-usc: Any help given would be appreciated.  Thanks. Lost My mail after scan on startup? Answered

After booting my vista machine the other day, Chkdsk ran on startup, I opened outlook express too find all my emails had disappeared. I checked my outlook express .dbx files to discover that a new inbox.dbx file had been created. I assumed that the old inbox.dbx had become corrupted, and checked the temporary "Found.001"  directory that is created by chkdsk, there was only two files in this directory not related to outlook express. I have tried to run two file recovery programs get data back and restorer xp, but cannot find the missing inbox.dbx file. DO I have any chance of recovering this .dbx file or is it gone ?

How do I make a system where it sends me an alert when a wire is cut? Answered

I work for a non-profit in Mexico. We have a remote station with an antenna and computer equipment that I need to secure from people messing with the antenna on top (people taking it for metal recycling money is my main concern). I plan on putting a line or two of barbed wire lining the top of the building that houses the computer equipment inside. However, because it's so remote from where we are generally (it's on top of a hill next to us), I need some kind of remote alert system so that I know if the barbed wire has been cut. I saw a garage door monitor instructable using the parallax "Basic Stamp II" that I think I could modify for this purpose, but I figured this has been done before and their is probably a better way to do it. I thought of several ways to detect that the wire was cut, like running a small current through it so that when the circuit is broken, it sends the alert (e-mail or something like that), but I don't know how to implement that. It should be noted that the barbed wire is going to be on top of a 4 ft x 4ft building. There are no gates involved and it is a continuous wire (total 16ft long). I need to have a system that will tell me if any of the four sides gets cut. I've included a basic layout to help visualize what I'm talking about. Thanks for the help everyone. This is an awesome website.

How can I color aluminum wire without annodizing?

I bought a spool of 14 gauge aluminum wire for chain maille. My goal is to have alternating black and natural colored rings used for the maille. In a household metal working book I found from the 80's, they said to,"Mix 2 tablespoons lye into 1 quart cold water. Add aluminum part for 1-2 minutes. Submerse part into household dye mixed according to manufacturers directions until desired depth of color is achieved. Rinse in cold water".I tried this method using RIT black household dye; however, it was not successful. I am trying to dye the wire both RED and BLACK. If no method for the red is found, I can purchase a short length of anodized red wire; however, If there are any chemical reactions for turning the wire black, that would be great. Thanks!!

Sending email from wifi-enabled Arduino via Raspberry Pi?

I want to put instrumentation on a number of appliances and systems around the house by using wifi-enabled Arduinos. The Arduinos would send me notifications of status changes by texting my cell phone. In order to do this, I need to be able to send email from the Arduinos. I would prefer to use raw (command line) SMTP, but I'd prefer to avoid encryption to keep it simple. This brings up the problem of sending my email login password in the clear, which I also don't want to do. So, it occurred to me that I could set up a raspberry pi as a local mail server, send unencrypted mail to it, and have it forward encrypted mail to my email account. However, so far in my reading it seems that I have to have a domain name for the server to be able to set it up. But I don't want incoming mail at all, which would be the reason for setting up a domain. Is there a way to set up an outbound-only, domain-free mail transfer agent on a Raspberry Pi? Or is there a better way altogether? Thanks

Service to transfer handwritten content to text and send via e-mail.

Hello, I wonder if you have any information or guidance on the following:- Is there a service which transfers content from handwritten letters, or in images, such as in a fax service, to typed text which can then be sent to an e-mail address? Would there be some sort of security / anonymity / privacy involved, as there is with e-mails and post? Many people who require help on benefits, housing (travellers, homeless) do not necessarily have access to a computer, yet most of this information and guidance is available online. This is great for those who have access, but what about for those who have not? I know of PO Boxes which give anonymity, but this only works from one person to another, and only with written material. Any ideas or suggestions of such a service would be much appreciated. How would you make a visual notification system for when the mail comes? Answered

We have a long curving driveway so you can't see the end where the mailbox is. We end up checking the mail a couple times a day if waiting for something important. I've always wanted to do up some kind of thing where a light comes on when the mail is delivered by way of a switch that is turned on by the action of opening and closing the mailbox. Problem is that the mailbox is a good hundred feet from the nearest window on that side of the house (which is where i'd like the light to be) A wireless setup would be nice, but probably more complicated. Power down by the mailbox is available but house power for the driveway lights.

Shell says "Peak oil in 7 years."

In a recent e-mail to Shell employees, Shell CEO Jeroen van der Veer writes:"Regardless of which route we choose, the world's current predicament limits our maneuvering room. We are experiencing a step-change in the growth rate of energy demand due to population growth and economic development, and Shell estimates that after 2015 supplies of easy-to-access oil and gas will no longer keep up with demand."2015 is seven years away and with limited resources and an expanding population we are sure to see more and more limitations on resources we take for granted. Water, cooking oil, and food are also in that list. The e-mail goes on to say that little will likely be done about this situation by any governments until the poop has really hit the fan and by then it will probably be too late. Two scenarios are laid out in the e-mail, Scramble and Blueprints. One is a mad dash towards a solution as we hit the problem head-on and the other is to make a plan now for the inevitable.Personally, I hope for the Blueprints scenario, but I feel like the Scramble is likely what we'll be doing. link
