Can you say vote for me? Answered

I was wondering, does asking people to vote for you at the bottom of your instructable disqualify you from being able to win a contest?  For Example, If I put at the end of a "how to reuse water bottles" instructable, "please vote for me in the reuse contest" or "don't forget to vote for me in the reuse contest", am I automatically disqualified from winning? I know that you are not allowed to bribe people into voting for your instructable and stuff but are you allowed to encourage it in that way?

What is the penalty for voting for yourself in an Instructables Contest? Answered

So I noticed the rules state that you can't vote for yourself in contests. If you do, does the vote get excluded or is the Instructable disqualified? I am trying to figure out what I need to do to make my Instructables better and this is something I've been doing incorrectly. Thanks.

How do I rate or vote for instructables?

I read some instructions about clicking on the plus (+) or the minus (-) in the Instructables title box, but there is no plus or minus. There is no box. No by-line. No rating. Just the title. What am I missing?

A kind request: Google Science fair vote

I recently entered my Science Fair project in the Google Science Fair, an international science competition in which entrants can build, research, discover etc. anything they want to. For my entry, I researched on how prosthetic limbs can be controlled by thought alone and found that much of the mathematical analysis of the brainwave data had to be improved upon in order to make such a technology usable. Here is a brief synopsis, in case you were interested: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My project is, at its most general level, based upon the idea of the brain-computer interface. In this sense of the definition, anything we use to interact with machines is a brain-computer interface, including our fingers. However, amputees often face difficulties after the loss of such a vital method of interaction. Through research, I found that a current medical device, the Electroencephalograph (EEG) could be implemented as a direct brain-machine interface; in other inputs on a computer (such as a cursor) could potentially be operated by thought alone. However, I also learned that, although EEG technology has been in existence since circa 1920, it still suffers from the age-old problems of signal filtration and desired feature extraction. This means that current signal processing algorithms are not able to interpret the electrical signals exhibited by neuronal synapses very efficiently, thus making such an interface wholly impractical and inaccurate. My project sought to rectify this through the creation of custom signal processing scenarios that utilized new algorithms; specifically, the use of Linear Discriminant Analysis and Vector quantization compression/extraction methods for enhanced noise filtration and the removal of known artifacts (sources of electricity other than the brain, such as muscles). However, I decided it was not enough to run software simulations; to determine its true real-world applicability, I used a 14- channel EEG neuroheadset to gather electrical data from my own brain. I then built a prototype robotic arm with an onboard processor that would translate signals from the computer. Finally, I used the programs I created to "decipher" the incoming brainwave signals, and send corresponding messages to the robotic limb. I concluded that, by using my programs to perform the signal processing, I was able to increase the accuracy of detected brainwave patterns by about 16%. Although this may not seem like much, the brain processes hundreds of thousands of ideas simultaneously, and recognizing patterns requires a great deal of processing effort on the part of the computer. Finally, I reached an accuracy of about 91.35% using the programs I created. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Further in-depth details can be seen here: http://sites.google.com/site/eegprosthetics/home Recently, after submitting my project, I was notified that I was one of the 60 semifinalists world-wide; as part of the judging process, there is also an award called the "People's Choice Award." Essentially, the public goes online and votes once in each of the 3 age groups (13-14, 15-16, 17-18) for the project they believe is the best. I am kindly asking if you would consider voting for my project for this award; I believe this project holds many potential applications in the real world other than prosthetics alone; such technology could be effectively utilized by patients with paraplegia, paralysis, or even polio. The voting process is simple: 1. Go the Google Science Fair Voting website: http://www.google.com/events/sciencefair/projects/eeg_and_prosthetics.html (for my project) 2. Click the "vote" button in the upper right-hand corner Again, thank you for your time and consideration of my project, Anand S

New Instructables Website Ideas

My ideas on a new Instructables website. 1st is the toolbar on the homepage (first pic is a before pic) (After pic 2nd pic) is their is a bar that shows your total comments, your total views (click to view statistics), and how many subscribers you have.  2nd is on the Instructable page (were you make the project) their is usually a banner that says vote but only for one contest. So my idea is to make a banner that shows all the contests the Instructable is entered in and be able to vote on each one.  3rd is on the member page is when you scroll down you see the Instructables that are entered into contests but their is int a way to vote for them there. So my idea is to show all the contest the Instructable is entered in and be able to vote for each one.

Sort instructables by votes or views, contest participants or in general. And detailed stats too?

Hello. No doubt we need this function, to see what is trending and what is requested and what is popular. Can we?Also. Stats are great, but giving me "bare" domain without actual referring page is pretty useless, don't you think so? like say I have 100 visits from "t.co", which is twitter domain, but usefulness of that data is close to 0, if I don't know the actual tweet(s) which caused traffic to here, right?

Why do the voting stars not appear under Firefox or Chrome, but they do appear under IE? Answered

Some time ago, I got into the habit of using Firefox to use Instructables.com because the layout worked better there than in IE. I went away from the site for awhile, then came back, and I thought you had gotten rid of the 5-star voting system. Then I viewed the page in IE while logged in, and I discovered that the stars are there. The attached image shows screenshots of the same URL (https://www.instructables.com/id/Grip-grip/) viewed in three different browsers.

What are your picks for the Laser Cutter Finalists?

We're busy doing a round of approval voting to help select the finalists for the Laser Cutter Contest. In this round, judges give a "yes" or "no/no opinion" vote to each entry. We rank the entries by total number of "yes" votes and the top 10 become finalists. While I haven't gone through everything yet, I've been adding Instructables I plan to vote "yes" for to my favorites (by clicking the "favorite link" right above the comments). Again, I'm not done yet, but you can check out my current picks here in my favorites. What are your picks for finalists? Post you top picks as comments, or if you have a lot, post a link to your favorites.Remember that an additional four finalists will be selected based on pageviews and positive ratings as recorded around Monday January 7th ( Laser Cutter Contest rules). So, there's still time to vote for and tell your friends about your Instructable or your favorites. Also, we just added some sorting options for groups to make seeing who is in the lead that much easier:Laser Cutter Contest entries sorted by pageviewsLaser Cutter Contest entries sorted by rating

Contest pages - a suggestion

The new format for contests is growing on me, especially the separate voting function - it is now possible to show your appreciation for a competitor without damaging your own scores. However - I think it would be better if we could see the scores when we use the "sort by" options. OK, such-and-such is in the lead, but by how much? One vote? Or one hundred? One view? Or one thousand?I miss the edge-of-the-seat tension you get when you're just outside the winning range - how many views do I need to scrounge? Can I badger a vote out of somebody?Anyway, just my thoughts. Please click on this less-than-subtle advert

How will the grand prize winner for the tech contest be picked?? Answered

Hi! I wanted to ask if any one knows if the Tech contest grand prize winner with the best Radio controlled Ible will be picked by votes or by or by judges reviewing all the RC ibles? Because I have a very good Project that will be published within a few days but if  the one finalist for the grand prize is  picked by votes i really won't have enough time to make it? Also what does RC stand for to the judges ? RADIO CONTROLED, or REMOTE CONTROLLED ?

Why does the rating system give a rating on the basis of a single vote? Seems both biased and silly to me. Actually I don't understand the reason for rating questions anyway.

Why are some projects entered in contests sent in emails and others are not?

I noticed that some of the contest entries are sent in the subscription emails and others (including mine) are not. It seems like this is unfair because the entries not sent in emails do not get as many views causing them to not get as many votes. I would like to know how to get my projects sent in emails too. Thanks.

Can you cheat on contests?

So I was browsing the contests and found an instructable that seemed kinda suspicious. The instructable itself was fine, but in the comments section I found about 8 users, all praising this "amazing", "genius" instructable, and when I checked the accounts, they were all made and favorited and commented on the post on the same day, and that was all of their activity. Oh yeah, the author also commented. I'm also guessing that they all voted as well. My question is, will this be overlooked, or will this author win possibly runner-up with their instructable for cheating? I hope that this will be noticed and will be thoroughly checked. Thanks,Zakbobdop
