I am looking for a sensor that activates after the clicking noise of an automobile turn signal

Hello Forum, I am looking for a sensor that activates after the clicking noise of an automobile turn signal solenoid stops. Similar to the "clap on clap off" device, but activates only after I choose to stop clapping.  Or like a heart monitoring circuit that activates an alarm when a heartbeat stops. I would like this circuit to activate for only three seconds then reset. I would like that sensor to be able to clip onto an adhesive pad just like the one doctors use for heart monitoring. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Curtis

Arduino Clinometer for vehicle

I'm building a Clinometer for a vehicle, that will show roll & pitch, and log this data as well as yaw (skid). I'm using a 3 axis accelerometer with an Arduino, and am looking for ideas on improvements. I have the g forces for the 3 axis being displayed in the serial monitor, and am ready to display values on a LCD, but really thinking this should be graphics of a vehicle showing pitch and roll, like the old Jeep Clinometer I had as a teen. https://www.instructables.com/id/An-Arduino-Accelerometer/

powered pocket door/sliding door using automobile power window motor?

Hi, looking to make something along the lines of this youtube video, using a car power window motor, but would like to be able to use 2 switches or pushbuttons, one for each side of the door. It's not for our house or anything so it doesn't need to look pretty and I probably won't even be using an actual door, but a piece of plywood instead. Any ideas on how to make it happen? Thanks for the help. I'm sure there are better ways, but I'm looking to do it cheap.

I'm working on a high school science fair project which concentrates on the CO2 emmissions of automobiles and anlyzes two methods of filtering CO2 from car exhaust. It's really a pretty simple project - except that i don't have a Carbon Dioxide monitor. Online they range from $200-800 and i've contacted the enviornmental department at a local university to see if they can help me. I'm still waiting on a reply but i'm wondering if any of you guys (or gals) have any ideas on how i can find the concentration of CO2 in car exhaust.

Voltage regulator Design Problem?

Ah, voltage regulators. Easy Right! Not this one. I am making a voltage regulator like for an automobile regulator for a DC generator. (I'm replacing the old DC generator regulator on Pre 60's cars) A battery is charged from a winding on a Generator  (20V @ 60 Amps) A voltage sensor on the battery voltage turns on and off a switch driving the Field winding. The Field winding basically "turns on and off" the generator output. The battery is connected directly to the generator. (Why  and Why not is coming up) But when the Genrator's output is lower than the Battery voltage, current will flow back from the battery to the generator winding and discharge the Battery. So I need some isolation between the generator output and the battery. Alternators are easy since it has a bridge onthe output keeping the current from flowing backwards. Old regulators used a relay which burned out sooner or later. So easy, use a diode right? Just put a diode inseries with the generator to the batery. By the way, the "open circuit" voltage on a generator is about 200VDC No! The best diode I can find has a .7V drop at 60 Amps which is 42 Watts of heat to dissipate. Ahhh, so use a FET, They can get down into the milliOhms right? Except for the reverse polarity (and ESD) protecton diode always across the FETs defeat the purpose of a reverse polarity switch. So who out there is smarter than me? What goes inthe box marked ?? Any solutions accepted. Ungefahrt (now neither young or fast)

Which RF filter do I need for Tesla coil line protection? Answered

How do I determine what voltage and amp rating my RF line filter should be? I'm building a modest Tesla coil, powered by an automobile ignition coil  and must buy an RF line filter for my house mains, but there are so many differently rated filters for sale. I suspect that I can get by with a 120 volt, 10 amp rated filter for my U.S. house current, but all the ones online are rated for 240 volts. Can I still use 240v, and what amp rating?

Mk 219 fuze container value? Answered

I got this today at goodwill for $2.68 USD From what i got off the label Its some sort of ammo can for mk 219-3 fuze. Made by Nash-Kelvinator (automobile meets refrigerator) in 1943.  I know in the 40's everyone was into the war effort so its not that strange that an appliance/auto company would be making bomb fuzes. the MARK designation means Navy. My question, i picked this up to utilize as a small box for my smaller tools. Its in really good condition for being 68 years old. The inside is only scratched where the fuzes would have been rubbing the paint. (almost as if it contained live ordnance up until now). I checked ebay and havent seen any of these online.  Anyone have any idea how much its worth or rarity?(if its worth more than a tool box ill just sell it and buy a nice craftsman or something)

12v 3w led project

I am trying to build a "knight rider" light for my car using 3w led's. I know enough that I want 2 per section (8 sections total) and to wire the led's in series. They will be mounted to an aluminum bar, so I might not need heatsinks. They will be controlled by a "chaser light" sequential controller. The specs are: yellow 3w led forward voltage:  2.9v - 3.3v forward current: 750 mA I have researched and found led drivers but they are a bit more expensive than I would like to pay, since I would need 8 of them. Can anyone help me with what I need for this to work on my 12v dc automobile? Do I need transistors, diodes? What resistors do I need (value, wattage, etc)? I need major help from the electronics gurus. How do I do this??? I posted this in the workshop section mistakenly yesterday.

LEDs in resistance sensitive circuit

My question is relative to getting a LED to function correctly in a resistance sensitive circuit.  Here is the situation. 1. The Battery Warning Light in an automobile I am restoring currently uses an incandescent bulb.  2. Functionally, the light is on when the ignition is turned on, but goes off when the engine starts.  3. This works fine with the incandescent bulb, but not with a LED, even if I put the same incandescent bulb in the circuit (parallel). 4.With just the LED in the circuit, it never goes off.  This is because the circuit has about .5V leakage voltage through the device (which is a Lucas 3AW Warning Light Unit) when the engine is running (and correctly, 12V when just the ignition is on). 5. With both the LED and the incandescent in the circuit, the incandescent does not come on and the LED does not go off, both with ignition on and engine running. 6. I have also put a potentiometer in the circuit with just the LED and cranked it from 1 Ohm to 100K Ohms, with no effect. 7. Of course, an easy answer is to just use the incandescent, except that the dash is wired and complete and installed, and I prefer to get the LED to work.  Any thoughts or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

How to make a magnetically powered/propelled vehicle ?

I'm a freshman in high school doing a Year End Project (YEP) for STEM. My project is a vehicle that is propelled by electromagnetism. I have three main idea's already. Option 1: Completely replace wheels with large magnets with either a North or South charge. Then replace normal roads with railings charged with magnetism of the same polar to the cars. The bumpers could be magnetically charged as well. With all car bumpers being the same polar, it would decrease the chances of accidents. Take into account that this idea has only started growing for the past 2 years so my ideas for the mechanics are not close to completion so I'm leaving those thoughts out. Option 2: keep the wheels but modify them to have 2-3 smaller magnets on the inside of the wheel. By turning and switching on different a polar changing direction between forwards and backwards. Then add the same idea with the bumpers for the same reason. This cuts the cost exponentially. Option 3: Keep the wheels and everything else of a normal automobile except the engine. Replace it with on large magnet that's stationary and a smaller magnet that can rotate or switch between North and South polar's. Possibly instead of only one pair of magnets increase to an unknown number to allow for more speed, braking and acceleration power. Still keep with the bumper idea. I can't seem to find a reason other than cost to get rid of it. Of course the magnets would interfere with electronics. I haven't thought of a solution for that problem as of yet.
