The AWESOME Button

Matt Richardson over at Make made an awesome button from the Staples Easy Button. When pushed, the reprogrammed button randomly selects a synonym to the word 'awesome', perfect for thinking of new (awesome?) words to include in a description when writing. As an added bonus, Instructables' own Scoochmaroo is (sorta) referenced briefly @0:20 Check out the video and make one yourself: via: MakeMagazine YouTube Chanel

link the button/pad to the button keyboard?

Hi, I'm a newbie here and I know nothing about how to make my project possible. My project is making a flash games and when it comes to the solution that people have to choose A, B or C people can push the button on the keyboard. But now I want to hide the keyboard and use 3 pads/ or buttons only. So that's mean I have to link 3 buttons from the keyboard that I made to the 3 pads/ buttons. I'm thinking of using 3 switches of the light for the button/pads but I don't think that is a good idea. And I don't even know how to make it become true. I really need your help please. Wireless Button Pusher

Hello all, I am trying to add/build a wireless button pusher to a grain management device on my farm. The device cannot be hacked into or tampered with, however, the button I am trying to push requires little force and does not need to be sustained. It only needs to hit the button when I hit a remote. Additionally, I cannot use a phone for this (my grandfather needs to be able to operate it as well and could not use a phone) So I would need to be able to connect two simple remotes.  Any and all suggestions welcome.

On a 3 button mouse...

Is it possible to replace the IR receivers from the xy axis's, with a rotary encoder from the scroll wheel? Is it just a matter of removing the IR receivers and putting in scroll encoder dials from other mouses? Now on top of that same idea, can you use pots instead of the rotary scrollers? I cannot find a pinout from a scroll wheel or a IR receiver anywhere...one of these would be nice also. The mice I'm speaking of are the early type non lit underneath. However a workup of both types wouldn't hurt as this will help with the newer stuff. End result being able to use 3 separate dial axis and buttons from one HID mouse board.?

Arduino Script Issue?

Hey world, I am making device that will automatically water my xmas tree: I am using the basic "button" script from the Arduino IDE examples. the only change I have made so far is instead of using an actual push button I am sticking 2 bare copper wires(the ground has a 10k resistor) into a jar.  When water is added to the jar the connection is made and the LED goes on. The problem is that it only stays on for like 7 seconds. I need it so as long as there is water in the cup the light stays on. any ideas? Below is a copy of the script. Thanks! const int buttonPin = 2;     // the number of the pushbutton pin const int ledPin =  13;      // the number of the LED pin // variables will change: int buttonState = 0;         // variable for reading the pushbutton status void setup() {   // initialize the LED pin as an output:   pinMode(ledPin, OUTPUT);   // initialize the pushbutton pin as an input:   pinMode(buttonPin, INPUT); } void loop() {   // read the state of the pushbutton value:   buttonState = digitalRead(buttonPin);   // check if the pushbutton is pressed. If it is, the buttonState is HIGH:   if (buttonState == HIGH) {     // turn LED on:     digitalWrite(ledPin, HIGH);   } else {     // turn LED off:     digitalWrite(ledPin, LOW);

Toggable MP3 player to play/pause with a electrical input? Answered

I know the title does a poor job of explaining my situation. Basically, what I want to do is make a simple one song MP3 player that will play when it has power, and not when it doesn't. But verses most MP3 players, I would want this to pause when it does not get power, not stop and then restart. I know I need a power source to the MP3 player to keep it's spot in the song when it's paused, but it's critical it has a play/pause function that is dealt with through a power source going to/through it.

Hacking cell phone buttons

Hey there everyone, I'm trying to hack a cell phone such that I can simulate a button being 'pressed' by some other external switch.  I simply want to wire a lead on either side of the button so that I can essentially short it out (and then set it up so that the call is set up off of other circuit triggers such as 555 timer). If anyone has a recommended type of phone to use for prototyping purposes, I'd love to know.  Otherwise I'm just using a verizon pre-paid phone I picked up from 7-11 (will attach picture shortly)

I thought bout buying contact foil and glue it over the rubber contacts, but i don't know, if this is the best solution.

I need a certain button... Answered

I'm thinking of a project that requires a certain button. it needs to be low-profile, and be an on/off button (push on, push off) that doesn't pop up when it's off (like some buttons do so you can see if it's on or not). it just basically needs to be small (about the size of an LED, but in a square shape) and short (like a low-profile LED), and needs to be a push on, push off type button, like some flashlights have. any search terms might help (like I know momentary switch, but I don't know what a.... well, non-momentary switch would be called). I also need a lot of them cheap. I'm kind of crossing my fingers as to this actually existing....

Wireless button to talk to computer

Hello, I'm running some sessions with a multi-abled theatre group of kids and we want to create a piece of interactive dance. Each kids will carry a couple of buttons and when they press them they send a signal wirelessly to a computer nearby which is running the dance program connected to a projector so the kids can see what they are doing. So pressing their button could change the colour of the kids projection from red to blue.  I think I need to use a microcontroller inside a button but am not sure which one - cheap and small - bluetooth or wifi? How do I get the button press program onto the microcontroller? Finally how does the computer hear the signal? The dance program is written in Processing.  Is there a project that is similar? I've searched for lots of things but can't find exactly what I need. Thanks The kids will enjoy this Tim

Simple Audio to Button interface?

Dear Highly esteemed members of Instructables, I've had this Idea in my head, and I REALLY want to make it possible. I have a feeling that doing so would be a cinch if I had any sort of understanding of wiring at all. Basically, this is my idea. I want to use old buttons (and possibly an analog stick) from a gamecube or n64 controller and wire them so that they play a note when pressed. I don't necessarily need to include the analog stick in my design, if doing so would make the project a good deal harder. I'm looking to include about five buttons. And if the analog stick was included , at best I would want it to move the note in half steps, up or down, but I could also settle for setting it to it's own four notes, or not using it at all. As aforementioned, I have no Idea how any of this stuff works, or if it is even possible. So do let me know if this is even something that someone like me can do. And if it is, try to err on the side of over explaining if you can help it.

What I'm envisioning is something like you see in some toys. It has multiple sounds, but one button. It plays through one sound effect when you push the button, the next one the next time you push it, and so on. I've seen ones that will do a sound for each button with multiple buttons, but that's not really what I want. One button, multiple sounds, and it cycles through them. Thanks.

Physical button to launch a PC application?

So for an upcoming project I need to make a physical button that when pressed launches an application on my PC. I'm going for the most cost effective design, not looking to spend much if it can be helped. Any resources or tips would be much appreciated! Thanks guys!

Hi, I'm trying to do the NES controller/mp3 player hack, and I bought a player small enough that the guts all fit into the available space in the controller case. However, it came with an on/off slide switch, and I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to modify that to the START and SELECT buttons instead. Thanks!

Circuit that emulate a push button

Hello Everyone! I'd like to ask your help in making this circuit. I want to make a simple circuit that emulates a push button switch: When powered on, the circuit will trigger a switch. When powered off, it will trigger the switch again. I'm thinking of using this for my home made coin operated PC. There are various options for the coin operated PCs from shutting off the monitor or keyboard & mouse to software triggered. But I'm thinking of using the stand-by or sleep option of the motherboard. My current setup is a coin slot that is connected to a timer circuit. When coin is inserted the timer is activated and a relay will turn on. I want to put the circuit to this relay output and connected to the pwr button of the PC. Hoping for your assistance,
