Is this a good set up for a series/parallel configuration? when I test it with a multimeter the voltage was around 2.5 v each cell produces 3v@40ma. so something is wrong here.

In the current make magazine issue #15 There is a project called the Seebeck Generator. I was wondering about the use of Peltier Cells. Can someone elaborate as to how they function? I mean can you get them in different sizes? Would different sizes effect the power output? If I took like 50 of them and somehow combined them could I get a higher yield? What if you used it in combination with something like Hydrogen? Ideally Hydrogen burns hot and if I had a large version of the Peltier Cell Could I use it to get a real power output? Possibly enough to power an electronic motor? Just some random thoughts the magazine sparked. Thanks, Jester

Hi Guys! A few weeks ago I found an auction on ebay, bid, and won myself some big old pack of solar cells. Now these panels are wafer thin, no coating or covering. Additionally, I need to put the wire collecting ribbons on myself. The only problem with these is that they are incredibly fragile. What can I coat them with to protect them? Is there any spray or acrylic or resin that you use to protect them? Thanks

Lets say I have a solar panel that gives off 5 volts at 30mA. if I were to put a ten ohm resistor in series with it would There be basically no effect because a 10ohm resistor woulkd limit it to half an amp, which is way more. Or does the solar panel act like ~ 167 ohm resistor, and adding a ten ohm resistor will limit it to 28mA?

My friend gave me an old cell phone, with no battery. (No it does not have service). I don't know if it even works. It is a Motorola i860. Where the battery goes are four pins. How can I connect a AA, or AAA, etc battery to it to see if it works. The first time I tried it, it got real hot and then the battery smelled like it was burning. The second time it sparked. Is it even possible to do this? If it is, I need to know the voltage, polarity, and what pins to use.

I'm making a hydrogen motorbike that runs this kind of motor ===>http://www.ebay.com/itm/ME0709-Brush-Type-Permanent-Magnet-Motor-PMDC-24-72V-DC-Etek-R-19HP-pk-/250954809815?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash;=item3a6e1281d7 However, all i can find are " make your own HHO" fuel cells (which I'm pretty sure isn't what a fuel cell does but I might be wrong on that). Where can I find an actual hydrogen fuel cell that can power this motor plus lighting (and a few things like an arduino) for the motorcycle. Thanks a bunch!

Question about solar cells. Since solar panels are encased in glass or polycarbonate, does exposure to the elements degrade solar cells? And if so, in what fashion? Corrosion of the traces? water infiltration? etc. etc? Or is it a matter of the fragility of the cells?

Question about flashing red LED: I have a simple circuit--switch, battery, resistor, LED. Today, when I clicked the switch on, the LED came to life very slowly, as of it were fading in. I have never seen this behavior before. Is it the battery? (3V, 2032 coin cell and 100ohm resistor). Thanks.

I found a watch phone(s) on eBay that has TXT, GSM, and WAP capabilities for a good price. Anyways I need to know what provider I can use it with. I want to at least have the TXT and GSM. The WAP would be cool too! Thanks, joespicnictables http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-high-cost-performance-Wrist-Watch-Cell-Phone-MP4-/230675500795?pt=Cell_Phones&hash;=item35b554cefb#ht_6074wt_932

Does anyone know whether it's possible to re-purpose old cell phones as walkie talkies? I have some "old" phones (1X Tri-mode - 1.9 GHz and 800 MHz CDMA and 800MHz AMPS), and I'd love to be able to use them for our ski club as a short range back channel for communications in addition to the radios we use when we host races. I'm assuming we'd need to get some sort of base station, not sure where or how. There are probably some laws we'd have to comply with, assuming that something like this is even possible (I'm in Canada). I'd consider activating & using them normally, but the cell coverage on our mountain is very weak and unreliable, hence this post. Any ideas on how to get something like this started? Or is it a non-starter?

Does it matter what thickness I use to encapsulate my solar cells? I have gone with a 0.23 mm sheet and the sales rep is trying to get me to buy the 0.4mm sheet which is more expensive saying that the lighting conditions will be better off than on the thinner eva. I don't really believe that the thicker sheet would allow the solar cell / panel to increase the power generation but i have no experience in this nor could i find a forum that discusses this topic. What have you guys found? does the eva thickness matter? Thanks!

I have so many projects going on in my head that I am surprised there is room for anything else. Heck I have plans for a Jacob's ladder, Tesla coil, perhaps a coil gun but who knows. Well for quite some time I have also considered a vibe-bot or whatever you call them, the ones built with pager motors. But since this is not too exciting to some people it is not something I have jumped on doing. But I came up with a new twist today on the vibe-bot that I would like to try. I do not want to give away too many details here because I would like to keep it a surprise if it works. But I do see one possible problem with what I want to do and that is weight. The parts I have already weigh in at 26 grams. I am not sure how much the rest of the parts are going to weigh at the moment. But I was wondering what you think the weight limit for a cell phone motor is. I know that some cell phones can weigh a bit but I have no idea what the weight was for these cell phones since I did not have the scale at the time I tore them apart and would not have thought to weigh the phone anyways. Thank you for your insight.

Hi All, Instructables is a great site which offers lots of handy tutorials. While searching for ways to make solar panels I came across many tutorials that explain how to make a solar panel from solar cells. I'm looking for a tutorial on how to make these solar cells at home as I don't want to purchase them. Anybody has an idea? Thank you. Ciao Frank

All right you geniuses - I have yet to find an easy and elegant way to make battery holders for coin cells. The little buggers just slide around in anything I've tried to rig up. I've also searched high and low for commercially made battery holders. Obviously I'm not being creative enough, and I'm looking for something more sophisticated than tape. Bring it on!

I have a commercial solar panel that has burned out cells. I figure this is a great candidate for overhauling. I notice that the cells are protected with what appears to be clear silicon with a clear plastic covering, Tedlar or Kevlar? Anyone know where to get large quantity of silicon for large pour of covering? It would appear to me that after the cells are assembled the silicon would be poured and then the plastic cover placed on top and the some sort of rolling pin or squeegy to smooth out, this would be better than plexiglas laid over the cells, hail could hit it and not break anything.

Hey, As someone who wants to try micropropagation I would like to know how long plant cells can live when cut from the main tissue that they're found? And if the liquid that they're suspended in and the nutrients really make the difference can I be advised as to what solution to make up for transport? Any help would be great, Thanks, Tom

Which cell network is better? At&t, or Verizon? Verizon just started service in our town, and they claim they own all the radio towers in the area after they purchased alltel. However, At&t has some good service too. I can get 5 bars in my bedroom. Any help? What I want you to consider: Phone selection, price of service, quality of service. Thanks!

Hey there everyone, I'm trying to hack a cell phone such that I can simulate a button being 'pressed' by some other external switch. I simply want to wire a lead on either side of the button so that I can essentially short it out (and then set it up so that the call is set up off of other circuit triggers such as 555 timer). If anyone has a recommended type of phone to use for prototyping purposes, I'd love to know. Otherwise I'm just using a verizon pre-paid phone I picked up from 7-11 (will attach picture shortly)

I'm looking into a system that will enable me to determine the distribution of load on an archer's draw hand grip, probably as a percentage of the whole load. I have some basic ideas drafted, but before I start re-inventing the wheel, has anyone anything similar set up that I could look at or consider developing. The sensors/load cells must be able to fit between the two layers of a standard archery tab. There must be three sensors, for the three fingers of a normal "hook" grip, and I think either an Arduino or Pi based processor.

I use a bluetooth headset at work. problem is, no one can tell when i'm on the phone. i need a simple light to go on when the call comes in, and go off when i hang up. simple, right? i have an iphone. i tried one of those light-up keychain fobs, but they don't work on 3G. don't really know what they work on anymore. i tried a simple manual light switch, but that was too cumbersome. i'm thinking that it should probably be something like a bluetooth - oriented thing, or possibly something that can plug into either the power port or headphone port of the iphone. any ideas?

I am trying to connect 2 cell phones to one charger. I'm not sure if the factory charger will produce enough current, but I know how to figure that out if I get an answer to this question: If I were to simply splice the two connectors that go to the phones together (red-red, black -black) would there be issues caused by the two being connected in parallel? I guess I could technically put them in series, but either way the thought remains on whether or not I need to use anything to "isolate" the phones from one another.?

I'm looking into getting a cell repeater for my home. I live in a rural area with not a lot of service inside my house, but four bars outside. The repeater I'm looking at uses an omni directional antenna that draws in signal from multiple towers for multiple carriers. My question is, since this system uses an omni antenna, wouldn't any antenna do? Such as a CB antenna? The way I look at it the antenna draws in all types of signal but its left up to the inside receiver what type of signal to use? Am I wrong on this?
