Audio chip? Answered

I want to make a device to play a sound when a PIR sensor detects motion, but I don't know about the audio chip. I can't seem to find a chip that allows you to program a sound clip to it, then output it when it is given a signal. The closest I found was a cheap sound recorder module from china, but it contains all the external components (mic, batteries, speaker, switches) and so it acts just as a voice recorder. I need an individual chip that will do something similar. I may use the module as a prototype, but I eventually intend to mass produce the circuit, so that is why I am looking for an alternative. It only needs to hold about 5 seconds worth of audio, medium quality.

Compass on a chip

Does anyone know what I need to have a Compass on a chip? The idea is for a horizontal ring of LEDs with the northern LED lit. If the ring turns, the light will chase towards the north most point on the ring. I've found single and dual pole compass chips, but I admit a lot of ignorance about chips in general. Anyone have a shopping list for such a project?

Chips in smoke detectors

I have a bunch of smoke detector circuit boards all of which have IC chips. All of them have slightly to widely different numbers, some Motorola, a philips, etc.  The main question I have is what type of chips are these as far as function goes? I tried looking these up but so far nothing absolute. Some numbers I remember are 8506, 8605, 8502; other numbers are way different and I don't remember what they are.

Cat chip logger

Could you modify the reader in a chip reading cat flap to log the details of the chips t hat pass through it rather than only let recognized chips open the flap? Chip reading cat flaps exist data logging is possible this I know, how to tie the two together is beyond me. Give me detailed instructions I could do it, but I'm more at home with working out how to wind the detector coil than what to do with it. The reason is this My sister has a problem, she is in danger of becoming a cat lady, or at least over run with strays or other peoples cats. Her current plan other than catching the visitors that are clearly street cats and delivering them to the local shelter, is setting a camera trap aimed at her cat flap and posting the visitor photos on the local area FB page with is this your lost cat under it.  couple of the poor conditioned strays she has managed to get to the shelter have been chipped it is  reasonable to assume that some of the others must be to, and they would be easier to catch possibly if their  owners were trying to do it. Even a simpler system that just connected chipped cat with photo, and there by identified which cats aren't chipped so presumably are true strays not just nominally owned would b of help those could then be targeted for capture and re homing first.

Sensitive Accelerometer Chip

I've seen some projects that use accelerometer chips with arduinos to get readings (e.g. in MATLAB). I'm looking to do this but I'm going to be measuring very low amplitude, low frequency vibrations so, I imagine, the types of acceleromters I've seen used (e.g. the MMA7341L) won't be sensitive enough. Does anyone have a suggestion for which accelerometer would be appropriate (I know that MEMS are a popular brand - there's a list here: http://www.analog.com/en/mems-sensors/mems-accelerometers/products/index.html)  Many thanks for your time! Current in IC chip

Hello, It's a bit stupid to ask (I think), but essential to me. From all schematic I readed over intructables I never saw anything or anybody that cared for that. If a IC have a maximum and minimum current to respect ie: 6mA to 10mA, do we even care? Do I need to limit the current somehow? As I said, every schematic I readed never added any resistor or talked about anything relate to limiting the current on the VCC for the integrated circuit. I'm currently building a device that use one 555 timer IC in astable and a few others IC and they are all connected in parralel to the power suply. Thanks

JDM Programmer won't work with 8 pin chips

I bought a JDM programmer from ebay. It has slots for 8 pin, 18 pin and 28 pin chips. It's not a professional model, it's probably home made. When I use Winpic800 in Windows XP SP3 it is able to successfully read and write to both the 18 and 28 pin chips without a problem, but not with 8 pin chips. They're not automatically detected like the other chips nor can they be read of programmed properly. I think it might be due to power , but I'm on a desktop PC, so I don't think it's providing less power than required, plus why would 18 and 28 pin chips work all right. It could be the programmer, but all the connections appear sound, plus the thing came with some smart cards that already contained pre-programmed chips, including two 8 pin chips, so you'd think that it must've worked at some point. As it stands I haven't got a clue what I'm doing wrong and I would really appreciate help with this. Thanks :)

I get several birthday cards or little toys that have sound chips inside with a prerecorded message.  The board looks simple but I can't figure out out to re-record my own sound onto it.  Most of them have a big black plastic dot over (something).  Does this make it impossible to get to the actual chip/program? How a CPU is born

While doing some research, I saw a link that said "How CPUs Are Made: From Sand to Silicon". Mildly intrigued and not knowing anything about how they are made, I clicked and went to the page and read.     The article briefly runs through a highly abridged series of steps in the making of what eventually turns out to be an Intel i7 processor. It starts off with the raw materials (SiO2, e.g., sand) and how they turn it into monstrous (about 220 pounds!), essentially pure, silicon ingots from which wafers are made. and many steps later the processors are boxed up and ready for store shelves.

help identify numbers on this chip? Answered

Okay, so im looking to replace some IC's in a laptop. simple enough, but theres one thing. the part numbers differ by only one digit, and searching for either returns identical results. its a DDR ram chip, made by samsung, part "K4D551638F-TC40". the number that changes on two of the four chips is on the first line, with the word "Samsung". one two of the chips its a "510", while on the other two its a "540". if i google the chip and go to images, most of the results show one with a 510 on it. i know it isnt the clock speed, because according to the datasheet that is shown by the "TC40", so does anyone have a clue what those 3 digits on that first line mean? if anything?

Switching voltage inputs with a chip

I have a small project I'm working on that uses rechargeable batteries.  However I want the device to stop drawing from the batteries whenever an external power source is plugged in.  (The external power source would then power the internal battery charger and the main device.)  Is there a chip or circuit that could be used for this?  My only alternative is to modify the power supply port to include a micro spdt that will switch when plugged in.  But I'd rather like to avoid that.

analogue-digital cmos chips? Answered

Is there a chip like the LM3914 that takes an analogue voltage input and turns it into a digital signal? (preferably BCD, but decimal is fine too), but without the inverting output, so I can use it with other CMOS chips? I basically just want a chip that takes an analogue signal, and based on a threshold, divides it up into a decimal (or binary) signal. Specifically, I want to use it with a thermistor and a 7-segment display to make a digital thermometer.

Securing programmable IC chips Answered

I've just started playing with Arduino boards and programming and I am curious about firmware or downloading a program to a chip upon completion so the project remains so I can keep it intact after I remove the Arduino interface. Can you buy inexpensive chips and download a program to the chip with all the instructions on it so I don't have to leave the Arduino board connected to it. I've heard there are inexpensive one time chips that you can download too and that's pretty much it. Once the program is in, its in and you can't reprogram it again so my questions are this 1) can this be done? 2) does anyone have an Instructable for a project that uses this, and finally, where can I get such programmable chips? Any assistance or advise is most appreciated.

Problems with the 4511b IC chip??

SO i made a circuit which is a binary adder(using the 4008b) that adds numbers in binary and then passes on the result to a 4511 IC(its a BCD to 7 segment decoder),so basically it adds numbers in binary and displays them in decimal .It seemed to work fine for a while but then suddenly when i tried adding 0011 +0001(3+1) in binary ,it still displayed 0 and then i tried tapping the battery for a second or two and then suddenly the seven segment display shows 4 .The circuitry is all fine and right .but do i have to connect latch enable(pin 5) pin of the Ic?.Both the IC's run on a 9v battery and for the 4511 decoder IC i used 33k pull down resistor .Is my pull down resistor value for the 4511 IC too high ?The binary adder part seems to work very well, its the bcd to 7 segment decoder IC part that I'm very much concerned about. Is there too less power for both the chips to run on?I've not got a single idea at all .so, >PLS help me if you can.
