USB Driver

I got a USB cable fro the dollar store today for, well, one dollar. I was wondering if there was a way I could control the voltage output from my computer. I stripped the cable (it was male to male), and tested the output with my multimeter, too. I am getting about 5vdc, is that normal? I thought I got more out of the USB port. Like I said, I was wondering about any opensource usb control program I could use to control the USB voltage. Is this even possible? Also, I can't program AT ALL, or understand it, either.(if it matters)

Ac and dc led drivers?

Can I power an AC LED driver with DC voltage, I understand the driver controls voltage  1watt , the driver was rated 85 - 265 volt ac input but the seller had written 12 volt with grease pen across the printed label. This light works fine

Question by dsr.   |  last reply

Does an LED driver rated @ 6v -12v hold/keep a source voltage of 8.4v to 6v or just maintain it between 6v - 12v

I should preface my inquiry with an admission of possessing very limited electronics knowledge. but I am somewhat familiar with battery voltages & amps. I have several Luminus SST-50 & SST-90 LED emitters. I have found that to achieve the full lumen potential these emitters must be driven beyond Luninus's stated typical vf of 3.2 volts. I do not exceed 6vf. I am aware that current is a major factor in the performance of these lights, but when using 5-6amps or the max of 9amps (SST-90)I notice little difference in the brilliance of the light. However, when altering the vf from 3.2v or 4.5v to 6v the difference is amazing. When using 5 X NIMH batteries (= 6volts/4.5amps) with an SST-90 the lumens are high. When I use 4 X NIMH bat @ 4.8 volts/4.5amps, there is about a 25% reduction in light production. With my limited electronics info.I assumed the voltage was the key force here. Or is there something about the volt/current relationships that I need to know? My ? actually concerns the drivers that I have. They are rated @ 6v - 12 v. Do you know if a driver, with these specs, regulates/holds the vf @ 6 volts when the source voltage is greater than 6 volts or does it just maintain the voltage within the range of 6v - 12v. Using 2 X 4.2v LIon batteries, connected to the driver, gives an 8,4v the volt meter reading. Such a voltage will destroy the emitters. I expected a reading of 6vf (@ the driver leads). If you are able to answer my question, one I would be profoundly grateful, 2 please be as detailed/specific/simple as possible. Thank you very much cgc210

Flyback Driver and Plasma Speaker Driver Question?

I was looking for a good way to drive a flyback, and a circuit to make a Plasma Speaker.  What I came up with, can you use an MC12061 running at 3.8MHz through an IRF540 MOSFET to drive it?  If that works, could you make a summing amplifier with an Op Amp to sum the output of the MC12061 and the Audio (Maybe amplify the audio a bit before the summing amp?) before driving the MOSFET?  Would this work?  Would there be significant problems like heat dissipation from the MOSFET, distorted sound, etc? Thanks

Acer Aspire 1 drivers? Answered

Hi! I have an Acer Aspire 1.  I had truecrypt on it encrypting the whole harddrive... had some problems... etc. etc. etc.  I ended up just wiping the drive and upgrading from W7 starter to W7 pro.  Now I don't have a valid driver for my ethernet, WiFi, or graphics.  I tried to find the drivers on Acer's website, and ended up talking to a tech rep who of course didn't really know anything.  He told me that my computer can't run W7 pro... which obviously it can since everything else works.  He also told me that Acer will not supply the driver for my computer.  The only option he gave me is to buy recovery media from them and restore it to W7 starter.  I'm not willing to settle for that even if I have to live with it the way it is.  Just thought I would ask if anyone else has had this problem, and if so how they fixed it?  (And yes, I already Googled it a couple different times... nothing on Google worked.) Thanks in advance!  :)

driver and update problem with windows 7

I've had my computer since last April. it has Windows 7 home premium sp1. the problem started about 6 months ago. whenever i plug in any new usb device, it fails to install any drivers. hardware installed before this started still works perfectly, only new stuff won't work. and the attached picture is what it looks like when i open windows update. both problems started around the same time, so i assume its the same problem, and i am just completely out of ideas as to what it could be. any help is greatly appreciated.

Best LED driver?

I need to driver (5) 1watt white LEDs (forward voltage of 3.2~3.5v) and current of 350mA. I guess the best way would be to connect them all in series and somehow give them power. This is meant to be powered off of the wall socket (whether through SMPS or a capacitor or a resistor or a transformer or anything.). My question is what's the best way to drive them? I've never really used high power LEDs before. I'd also prefer to be able to adjust the brightness...

Best driver for this led? Answered

Sorry for posting a repeated question(i think) Well, i'm so new to high power LEDs, My dad bought a high power LED on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/160584479457?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649  The LED has the following specifications  Working Forward Voltage (VF) : 9-12V DC Working Forward Current (IF) :1000mA   Intensity Luminous: 800Lm The seller told me to use a  DC DC converter for it. I will not pay $20 for one.  I've seen lots of sites about the driver but most of them has circuit made for  LEDs which have a forward voltage of 2.8-3.6V. and mine has a Forward Voltage of 12V. So what will be the best driver for it. I found this one but i'm wondering if this would work http://www.simple-electronics.com/2011/09/high-current-led-driver-using-fet.html

I need a chip that will be able to power  5 or more LEDs not past like 10 though cause it's not necessary channels of LEDs ,I want to be able to have each channel doing different patterns at the same time, blinking ,fading ,or just on.  (it doesn't matter how much MA the chip can handle as I will be using transistors to amplify the signal ,most likely) It needs to be able to fit in a 1/2 inch tube. I think this one will work but im not sure. http://www.onsemi.com/PowerSolutions/product.do?id=NCP1840 I think this will only work on printed PCBs if I can i'd rather have something i can wire up with ether perfboard or wires.

3.7v LED driver

Hi guys how are ya doin? :DRecently I'm working on the next project, which is about battery powered bicycle led lamp. So in that case I want to use LED driver. Then I've founded this schematic with CMOS 555 timer, who runs more than 5 LEDs in series. Excited by this new found schematic, I bought the parts & connected them like so. Unfortunately, it turns out, it wont work. :/ At 3.7v they won't even light up, but at 5v they start to shine a little bit. I'm wondering do I need to put different transistor (in my case it was PN2222A - that's the one I had and its equivalent to 2N4401)? Or what the problem with this circuit.I would more than thankful for your help. :D

Alarm Buzzer Driver? Answered

So I have removed a buzzer from an out of date smoke for fun use, but it doesn't work as expected.  I set up a driver circuit with a 555 and some resistors/capacitors.  I don't deal much with IC's or the 555 and haven't really bothered to learn to use them properly, but I took an LED flash circuit and vastly decreased the capacitance, upping the frequency drastically.  I have included an image of the circuit.  The 555 runs on 6 volts, the buzzer runs on 9 (the blue wires).  The volume was ok, but nowhere near expected levels and I wondered if it had to do with the higher than normal frequency.  I attached it to an arduino and ran the tone function from below audible to above it (whole frequency range) and the sound was very quiet, even using an npn transistor and 9 volts right off the battery hitting the buzzer.  As you can see, the buzzer has 3 leads, i only used two, but as with most 3 poll buzzers I assumed one was just for some form of feedback.  Any voltage in any direction across the three produces sound, so should I use all three, and if so how should I do so.  How would you recommend driving this buzzer?

Aquarium LED driver?

Im looking for a schematic that controls 1w leds for my fish tank light? i need the control to be dimmable and hopefully programmable so i can incorporate a sun motion effect and then a moon motion effect! i say hopefully because this will need to be an add on later in the project as id like to have the initial lighting up as quickly as possible! As far as i know so far, the circuit is a basic constant current circuit but  i need a "buck" driver or PWM to enable the dimming by varying the current! so my questions are :- 1. Does anyone know of a simple, reliable and cheap circuit to use? 2. Because of the amount of LED's ill be using im not sure i like the idea of having all the lights in a series configuration because if one fails, thats a lot of lights to test! 3. If i have to use a computer to run the lights id like to be able to make it compatable with the raspberry pi therefore id need a program and mounting software for the pi, so anyone know of one? 4.Right to the power, i dont care what voltage it runs on but id like to only utalize one plug socket if possible, i do have a few power supplies laying about for various things like old laptops and old pc's, so what do i need to power it! i cant think of any more at the moment but you guys know what im trying to achieve so im sure you know what questions i have missed! as i said though, id like to start simple and work up to sun motion control and timers! Thanks in advance for any help anyone is offering!

Stepper motor driver?

Hi! I am trying to find a good h-bridge for a 3 volt stepper motor. Basically my plan is to build a stepper motor controller with an arduino for controlling various functions in a model kit. I have the arduino-kit and the motors. But I need a good reference for a h-bridge, but all i can find are chips rated for much larger drive currents. Also exactly how hot does a hbridge get when under load? I would like to integrate the bridges into the kit, but since it is plastic, I would like to know in advance how hot it gets, and if it gets too hot I'll have to look at another solution.Any help appreciated! PS. If you can please put the hbridge part ID in your answer for easy reference. DS.

Driver for arduino on Windows 7?

I have recently had to wipe the hard drive of my computer due to a virus. Consequently I had to re install all of my arduino stuff. I got my IDE arduino 0022, but when I plugged in my board to get the driver again I ran into some problems. First off it came up in other devices on my control panel, and when I tried to update my driver, the ArduinoUno.inf did not come up in the driver folder. I moved the file to its own folder, so that it would actually come up when I tried to update the driver, but even when I selected the file I knew for absolute certain was correct the computer said that there was no driver in that file for my device. What is going on and what can I do?

Testing a 3 watt LED? Answered

I recently purchased 13- 3 watt LED's. I'm trying to establish a high out-put LED light. I also purchased a LED Driver Transformer 48 Watt 120 Volt to 12v DC 4 Amp. First I would like to test each LED using the same divider. I'm thinking that if I create a voltage divider two 330 ohms to limit the current and reduce the voltage to about 6 volts that would allow me to test with the driver that I purchased. Secondly, will this driver be enough to drive all my LED's and would I have to reduce the voltage down too since it appears to push out enough wattage and amperage for the total number LED's I'm putting together? I'm building my circuit based on this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qYZahe2s5o&NR;=1 Link to website data of 3 Watt LED. http://ledsupply.com/indusstar-1up.php Assistance would be greatly appreciated. DIY Light pen- how tosend absolute position & pressure to PC/software? Answered

I'm planning on converting an old CRT monitor to use a light pen. I have the hardware side of things largely figured out, so I can get an absolute position of the pen on the screen and a pressure value, but I don't know the best way to go about getting those values into the PC or software. Ideally, I'd like to use R-S232 or PS/2 to connect to the PC, in both of which the cursor could be homed by the hardware and then moved to an absolute position by keeping track of the relative positions sent, all using the standard drivers, albeit without a pressure input. However, I have found this specification for synaptics touchpads, which provides information on using their driver to send more data (including pressure) over the PS/2 or serial connection, but I can't tell if the absolute mode is intended to work as I want it to, or if is simply to catch and correct any bad position reports. I also doubt this pressure input will be recognised or used by any software. The only alternative I can see is USB, which looks horrible to try and implement, and still doesn't look as though it will support a pressure input with the standard drivers. Ideally I'd like to try to emulate one of wacoms touchscreens, as this would allow me to use their drivers, allowing it to be compatible with most software, though so far I have been unable to find any information on this, and don't expect that I will be able to get it without borrowing a tablet and watching the communications with the PC. Which interface would be best, and does anyone have any suggestions regarding drivers? Thanks in advance for any help.
