Hi.I was wasting some time on Google Video, and I found this one.This man believe Earth (and others planets) are expanding ...According to Wikipedia, this theory is not new, and is serious. After all, if the Sun (and stars) grows, why not the "core" of planets too ?

Timemachine in Google Earth - Concept Extention for Google Earth

Google Earth History After the Google Earth Software was published on the Internet and became a striking success, I noticed that this software made many basic features available, which were necessary for an idea I have carried around with me for a couple of years. Actually, the idea is connected to a question that many of us have asked ourselves: You are walking on 5th Avenue in New York and wondering how this street looked 20, 50 or 100 years ago. Of course you can look up photos in relevant books or magazines and obtain a certain impression of how life was at a certain point in time in this place. But wouldn’t it be great to be able to transform this impression and create a detailed picture; to be able to literally see more and truly visualize your impression? In addition to the one or two photos which can be found in old magazines or in history books, there must be other historical documentation, which can assist in creating the picture. Surely, you can look at movie documentation, but mostly the specific place that you are interested in, is only briefly shown – or not shown at all. So let us stick with the example of 5th Avenue, New York. A place which has existed for more almost 100 years in its current form; which means something to almost every person in the western world; and which has been visited by a vast number of people at least once. As tourists like to do, they photograph the places they visit to show family and friends, where they have been. It is safe to assume that 5th Avenue is one of the places on Earth, which is most incessantly photographed by a large number of people. What a pity that all these photos are brought back to their owners’ home countries, and thus spread all over the world. The final resting place of these photos is mostly a photo album, a dusty box in the attic, or - in this digital age – a hard disk or a CD-Rom. The sum of all these photos of 5th Avenue would probably form a breathtaking historical view of this street: millions of pictures documenting all small and large changes throughout decades, pictures of well-known people visiting the avenue, events which happened here, the rise and the deterioration of different buildings. This collection of documents resembles traveling back in time in a way, that nobody has ever done before. If the owners of all photos would run their pictures through a scanner or make already digitalized photos available to the general public, you would quickly obtain an unusual diversity of photo documents. Especially, you would gain a multitude of different pictures of well-known places like the implied 5th Avenue. Once more we’ll look at an example: assuming I have a color photo from September 1994 taken on the corner of 5th Avenue and 23rd Street in New York City on which you can see e.g. the Empire State Building. I scan the photo into my computer and use the appropriate import function from Google Earth. Thus, the scan of my photograph is saved on a Google server. With the 3-D view of my Google Earth program I can now head for the corner of 5th Avenue and 23rd Street. On the exact location, where I took my picture in the real world in 1994, I now save the photo in the program’s virtual space. If many other Google Earth users would do the same thing with their photos, we would slowly have a collection of pictures from 5th Avenue. All other users now have the possibility of viewing all saved photos. So, if another user saves a photo of 5th Avenue and 28th Street, all I will have to do is to virtually move five streets north and position myself behind the digitally stored picture in order to view it. Of course, we would soon have chaotic conditions if enough people upload their pictures of 5th Avenue to the Google server: One has a photo from December 1980, another person a photo from June 1982, the third a very recent photo from 2006. All these photos will be saved geographically correct in the Google Earth program, but content-wise they will not fit together at all in such a chronologically un-sorted manner. Therefore, the program Google Earth would have to contain a new function: the depiction of the fourth dimension, time. In short, before you save a picture from June 1971 in the correct virtual place in Google Earth, you will also have to set the correct time, i.e. June 1971. In reverse, for the viewer this means that he will have to select from which time in history, he wants to see photos of the chosen 3-D surroundings, before he views the pictures in the Google Earth 3-D world. So, what is it all for? Just as Wikipedia to this day has proven very impressively, that the accumulation of individual persons’ knowledge on the Internet in sum constitutes a high value of total knowledge, so this collection would form a library of historical documents. Again we will remain with the 5th Avenue example: with a sufficiently large collection of photos the viewer has the option of looking at the street from different perspectives AND from different points in time, which may even be many years apart. History has probably never bee so easy to observe. In the end maybe he sees himself taking his photo in September 1994 while somebody other shot a photo with me in the picture. Strange, isn´t it?

Drilling rare earth magnets? Answered

Is it safe to drill holes in rare earth magnets? Is the dust toxic or anything like that? I have an idea for a project but it would require drilling holes in old hard drive magnets, but if it is going to make me ill or kill me I'll find another way to do it.

Google Earth Flight Simulator

If you download the most recent version of Google Earth and press Ctrl+Alt+A it will open up a flight simulator. You can select from two different planes and take off from several locations including San Francisco, Switzerland, and the Himalayas. You can also start your flight at a specific location if you go there in Google Earth outside of the flight simulator, and then select the "start at current view" button which is above the airport selection box. The controls can be found by going to help and then clicking on keyboard shortcuts. It's a lot of fun and has pretty good resolution. The pics are of the Himalayas. The start-up screen with the options, Switzerland, New Zealand, and upside down over Washington D.C.

Pressure, vacuums, and the on earth equivalent?

One atm is equivalent to about 14.7 psi.  Does that mean that if one was in a perfect vacuum a vessel sporting 1 atm would need only hold the pressure of 14.7 psi?  It seems to me that in space (not a perfect vacuum) a craft would only need to hold maybe 12 psi (of course when messing with human life I would definitely allow for 150 to 200% tolerance, but in the end 24 psi still isn't very much is it.  Is there more to it than this, or are all those quotes about how hard it is to deal with a vacuum and how things must be super strong a little over blown.  Going just 11 meters under water exposes you to a little over double air pressure at sea level.  Someone in just a diving suit has been to over 60 times atmosphere and the deepest submarine dive I could find was 1083 atm at around 11000 m.  It just seems to make holding out a vacuum a little overrated.

Would a container in space maintain its temperature?

It space where there are no particles in the air (metaphorically), would a container maintain its heat.  A vacuum doesn't conduct and in theory that would remove any chance of something losing its heat energy.  And if so would the earth lose all of its heat in the even't of the sun going away.  Or would it average out all of the temperatures, which would still be very cold and would leave the earth feeling about 0 degrees Celsius.  But in theory this would allow us to use some vast heating operation to raise the temperature of a planet and maintain it for us to live on.  I know that there are some things on earth that use the heat and convert its energy to other forms therefore heat is removed from within earth, but could those be eliminated?  This is all just food for thought for people and I kinda wondered what people would say.  Its all in all just fun to learn new things.

What happened to the labels and numbers in Google Earth? Answered

This started months ago, I think it may have been after an update. Random letters and numbers are missing, including street names, highway signs, city and state labels, and the status bar. I've tried reinstalling, but that just lost all of My Places. Any ideas for what's going on and how to fix it?

Black is the new Green

It seems today http://www.google.com/ turned it's lights out. I though it was an early April Fools but apparently its time for Earth Hour (which everyone should participate). My physics teacher has a black desktop background on his laptop to save battery life. I always tell his it doesn't work and that it might even do the opposite. We all know that for backlit displays this does not save any energy but does it waste energy? Anyone care to comment.PS. I admire Google for its Community service. I wish government was more like it.

For a Simple AM Radio Circuit (crystal radio w/amplifier) Does the Earth connection only apply to the tank circuit? Answered

Is it possible to survive a fall through the center of the earth? Answered

Okay, LOTS of supposing here. So lets suppose someone dug a hole through the center of the earth, and managed to cover up the sides of the hole with a magma resistant cover of some sort. You start out by getting one of the spacesuits from nasa and decide to jump in the hole. Would you survive? I know that a human in the open sky diving position will go about 200 km/h, and I believe a space suit can survive up to 250 degrees fahrenheit. Please tell me how you came to that conclusion because it's been killing me how to figure it out. And also please include any formulas that are used, they're good to know!

Single terminal of battery alone connected to earth. Answered

I took a 12 Volt battery and connected its positive terminal to one end of LED bulb with enough series protection resistor. Then i connected the other end of the LED bulb to earth (soil with moisture outside my house). I did not connect negative terminal of the battery to anything. I expected the bulb to glow. But it did not glow until i connect the negative terminal also to ground. While there is potential difference between earth and battery why dont current flow through bulb when i did not connect negative terminal to earth.  I have attached the photo of the battery that i used.  I am sure that LED's were working properly and battery had enough capacity to provide current.

How are spherical rare-earth magnets manufactured? Answered

A question came up the other day when playing with Buckyballs of how you manufacture spherical rare-earth magnets. I'm surprised they could use that name, given the original Buckyball, but these Buckyballs are powerfully magnetic spheres with one side a North pole and the other a South pole which can be stuck together to make 2D and 3D structures.  Sale has been restricted in many places because of people ingesting them and requiring emergency surgery. I've found information on neodymium magnet production using a sintering process, but can't see how you could produce a perfect Ni/Cu plated sphere with this method as individually machining to a sphere would be excessively laborious and tumbling would be a non-starter because of the attraction between balls.  EDIT: The sintering page wasn't the one I thought I was linking, but the one I've linked looks like it may have the answer in die-pressing or isostatic pressing in the aligning field of a solenoid.  Is this how it's done for spherical magnets? (Polishing the coated spheres would still be a problem.)

What on earth to do with box of RC helicopters? Answered

I just got a box of RC helicopters and parts. Its has 2 complete helicopters in pieces ( BIG ONES) a ParkFlyer step charger (?) a battery, a ratio, and a whole bunch of crystals and servos and wires and rotors ect. Even a carbon fiber cloth rod that the tail rotar attaches to.  *shrug* I don't know anything about RC helicopters, except that they are very difficult to even takeoff. What do I do now?

What is the axial orientation of Polaris with respect to the Earth? Answered

So... I know the Earth's axis of rotation currently points (roughly) at Polaris, the North Star. (which, of course, is why we can navigate by it here on Terra Firma).  I also know that Polaris is about ~500 ly from us,  has a rotational period (hence an axis), that it's a transitional Cepheid (sp) (a star that varies between a larger, brighter state and a smaller, denser one) , that it has at least two l known, low-output companion stars, and that since the ~1940s it has undergone visible changes in its rotational period and its output. My excuse and reason  for asking... First, I did google it. Either no one has asked the question(doubtful), it can't really be determined with our present level of science (could be, idk), or I just didn't use the right search  terms to find the answer (the usual culprit ime) , but in any case, after an off and on search that's spanned the past ~year, I think it's time I ask. Secondly, the inspiration. I enjoy amateur astronomy.  However, time and equipment and location often limit my grand delusions for the next "Citizen challenges Hubble with stunning new photo of Zeta p3044-a!" award hahahaha.  But the real problem is most often because of my mid-level scope's somewhat limited ability (in comparison to a German equatorial mount) to track consistently and smoothly, and as a result, Polaris becomes an easy target when I get frustrated with the scopes performance on a given night (sometimes it does track brilliantly... for a stepper-driven alt-z, but only sometimes and even then only to the limits of the steps) because the only thing the scope has to track when pointed at the North Star is rotation, which it seems to handle better than both directions of movement (probably needs a new gear or the motor is wearing or my expectations are simply higher than that of my equipment ...). Of course, I also quite often choose to shoot Polaris when conditions are such that it's the only viable target (for instance, when I'm stuck imaging from my backyard, I have a postage stamp size hole that happens to point at Polaris... which of course basically "doesn't move", pretty much everything else is shrouded by century old, 8-100 ft tall forest during the warmer months, and when I can't drive out to a more suitable location, it's a lucky night when everything is "right", I can even align the mount (it uses a goto controller that requires a 3 star alignment for tracking with any accuracy). So Polaris is a no-brainer, (take some images for arts sake, fine tune the in-situ collimation, data-reduction test sets, etc.) . Either that or do something else...  Anyway, as a result of all of this, I'm found myself enjoying the simplicity of shooting the North Star and the area around it, and having fun with image processing and even optical train modifications to further the artistic side. And I've read a few articles about it's variability and the ~relatively significant changes in its behavior that have been occurring during the past 50 years that got me to thinking What I'm wondering is that when I image Polaris, am I looking at it "on its side?", "on axis?", or at some other viewing angle? Not that I'm going to be able to literally "view it on its side" or something, since optically imaging the star beyond that roughly of a point-source isn't practical, but just to know, since the darned question won't get out of my head. (been asking it for the past year quietly to myself and google. I hate to think how many cumulative hours I've spent at it...) thanks!

What could be inside of this? It is something for removing earth's radiation? Answered

What can be inside of this (Attachment) ? It should be a device you put under your bed to neutralize health effects of Hartman and Curry grids - Earth radiation. I am guessing a simple coil, but what is happening if you connect it to the power outlet's ground? What do you think about it? Is this bogus device, and would there be a way to neutralize those radiations? (I do not have this thing, I just want to prevent my father from wasting $50... by the way there are no possible returns)

Is silican dioxide/diaiomaceous earth safe in energized electronics

One of the problems with bringing found items home,is bugs that live inside.  i think the powder use for crawling buggers  is the safest i know of, I sprayed a couple items with the powder after i saw a big water-bug zip across the floor. Since i also had a acme juicer on the floor near where it exited, i sprayed that to with the silican dioxide/diaiomaceous earth mix, i may give it to a friend and dont  want to give her a roach problem. I also dont want it laying eggs inside. i doubt it went into the juicer,but better be safe. i was thinking of spraying everything i find  through the vent wholes so i dont release anytthing  into my apartment.  I did that one time when i took an A?C out of the window and lreplaced it.  i let the old one sit on the floor for aq couple days.  I had yellow jackets the whole summer  in here. It was common to  get up in the am and see 50 yellow-jackets on the sunny window.warming themselves

Can you use the Solar heater with earth tube, or would the heat coming through the tube go into the ground?

Have been browsing the different sites looking for a good way to passively heat and cool my place, for winter times heating primarily.  Was looking at the following instructable https://www.instructables.com/id/Solar-Heater/ when the above thought hit me.  If I didn't want to cut into my wall to do the solor heater, is it possible to run it through earth tubes to provide the heating.  Didn't know if you would have to much heat displacement coming through the tube going into the earth.  Airflow is to be ran by a simple computer fan on low powered solar panel/battery

-needs to have visuals of sun's rays hitting the surface of the planet. Magnetic Levetation? A Magnet Levitating between two Bismuth plates?

I am trying to make a magnet levitate between two bismuth plates that i made (picture 3,4,5 and 6). As you can see they are round discs about 7mm (millimeters) thick and 110 mm or 11cm (centimeters) in diameter. I bought two magnets; -the one I am trying to make levitate is 30mm (millimeters) in diameter, 10mm thick, and 22kg (kilograms) strong... -the other that is on top, the one that is pulling the magnet up is 30mm in diameter, 15mm thick and 23kg strong I put my two plates of bismuth so that there is about 25mm of space between them... Than I put in the 30mm x 10mm magnet that I want to levitate inside. The other magnet is located above the setup. I very slowly, ever so carefully start to lower the magnet. The magnet between the two bismuth plates starts to shake and at one point hits the top bismuth plate. I can't make it to levitate, either it is on the bottom plate or on the top. I tried to make the space between two bismuth plates smaller and larger, to lower the magnet by a very small amount...it didn't help... PROBLEM: I can't make it levitate, either it is on the bottom bismuth plate or on the top... WHY IS THIS? HOW CAN I FIX IT AND MAKE IT LEVITATE? Thank you for your help! -Stanislav A.K.A. Comodore

driving a tri-color LED via separate 12v earth and 12v supply Answered

Hi Peeps, I'm currently (pun intended) building a motorbike and want to have minimum clutter on the bike. I am wanting to incorporate a tri-colour LED to indicate status for high beam lamp AND neutral indicator lamp. If both are active, it will indicate Amber(or yellow). so the problem is, high beam is easy to acheive as its a 12v supply, neutral is more complicated as this operates pysically via earth on the gear change. I need some sort of relay to drive a 12v supply, but have very limited space to do it in. do you guys have any suggestions? I'm looking at a height of 10mm max and length 20mm so transistors or something. I can solder and follow a circuit board so any suggestions what to do would be appreciated. Thanks peeps

Underground Tube Air Conditioning

I have long heard about using buried tubes/pipes to use as a heat exchanger to take the hottter air from your house, blow it through a system of closed loop underground pipes in order to use the earth mass as a heat exchanger. The earth mass removes/absorbes heat from the house air in the pipes and delivers cooled air back into the house. Can anyone direct me to web sites about this subject. Or, certainly, if you have knowledge about this, reply to me with it? Thank you, John333
