POTENTIOMETER WITH ESC

Hello everyone!  I currently have a project in development which is lacking only one step. I am making a DIY Electric skateboard powered by a Arduino UNO board. I have some leds in the back working fine, the esc and motor work when I adjust the delay to 1300 miliseconds.. But my problem is to control the esc and motor via de potenciometer. Right now my potenciometer only reads me the values from 0-1023 but nothing happens. I have a map in my code but nothing is moving when using the potentiometer. Can someone help me out to make the potenciometer work? what is meant by ESCs calibration?

I know how to calibrate ESCs on the quad-copter. Howver, I dnt understand the concept of calibration. What is meant by ESC callibrarion? what happens when we calibrate the ESCs? is it so they move synchronously or so the PWM signal reaches each ESC at the same time?

Getting an ESC to work with arduino

Hello every one, I need to know if its possible to communicate between an ESC and an arduino. I would like to use a tilt sensor measured by the arduino to control a brush-less motor through an ESC. I'm not sure if this is possible but if so what would be a good way to go about doing it? Thanks for any help

Connect ESCs with RC receiver?

I am trying to connect 4 ESCs with a FlySku 6 Channel Receiver. I managed to connect all four of them to the throttle channel and it works fine. However, is it possible to connect them to other channels wiht them being plugged in the throttle channel at the same time? I am making a quad-copter and I am not sure what channels to use? like I know that we need the throttle channel to change the throttle and the motor speed. but like to change the pitch, roll and yaw, we need the other channels too right? So can anyone please guide me through it? I am using a flycky CT6B transmitter and a 6 channel receiver.

Quadcopter without expensive ESC?

Well I am new to quadcopters so please forgive me if I am wrong. Well I am set about to build a quadcopter and was doing a bit of research on the internet and most of them were telling me to get ESC for controlling the speed of the motor. I want to know if I can substitute it with something cheaper which basically varies the output using pwm input from the microcontroller(something like opamp) Another question is about motors ,is it a must that I should get brush less motors We'll I have two options Brush less 1500Kv motor for about 30$ each Normal 24000rpm 12v motor for 6$ each So which one is better and if brushless why so. Apart from that how much would a completely finished quadcopter wiegh (approx weight)

ESC zero throttle power consumption? Answered

I have heard that an electronic speed controller (esc) uses some power continuously even at zero throttle. What I was told was about 0.5 amps, but it seems like it would be different based on size, voltage, etc... My UAV has two 20 amp ecs's being powered by two 4.4 Ah 11.1 volt batteries and it will need to land and sit with the power on for 3 hours after flying 2 miles and then fly back. At 0.5 amps the 3 hour sit will waste 3 Ah. I will probably need to set it up so the esc's are unpowered at zero throttle but everything else will remain powered. Does anyone know a way to calculate about how much current the esc will burn at zero throttle if you know what battery, esc, and motor you have? Or do I need to measure it directly to know?

How do I choose proper power supply for my ESC Answered

Hi, I am very new to this, I apologize if my question is too stupid :) I bought a brushless motor: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FTX5S0E (I can't find proper specifications, so I am not sure what is the voltage for this, but somewhere on the internets it was mentioned that this model needs 11.1Voltage, and 15-25A or 30A max. (not sure how to check if that's accurate, the motor is RS 2212-920kv) I also bought an ESC (I hope it's correct one...) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016KF0E2W/ it says 30A on it. So seems legit to me. Usually they power this setup with batteries. but I want to use a power supply to power this from 220v outlet. I have some power supplies at home rated 2A, which I am sure is not enough. so I assume I need to get a 12v 30A power supply.  I am afraid though that my assumptions will get me to burn my ESC, which will cause another month of waiting for new one. Would really appreciate some help. What power supply do I need? how many volts my motor requires? should I provide 30A? does this kind of supplies even exist?  Thanks!

How to use an external power supply instead of batteries with ESC and brushless motor? Answered

Hello, everybody, this is my first question here ! Recently I have made a remote controlling system for my friend's RC plane, the problem is we want to test it on the ground without batteries.. So, I told him we can use an external power supply that gives 12V, but we can't calculate the needed amperage(? A) ... We'll be using EMax 18A brushless motor + Emax 30A ESC , all of these are using 11.1V, so what and how can I calculate the needed specifications of the required power supply ? I have ESCs with mode Linear; can I use them for my motors?

I recently bought 4 ESCs for my 4 brushless motors. THe ESCs are 20Amps. However, I found out that they have BEC mode linear and I might need an external BEC to power my receiver. Now my question is; lets say I am not using a receiver, I am using xBee mdules, which are going to be powered by arduino. Do I still need the BEC? Also, how would I power the arduino which needs 5Volts. Do I put a seperate battery for it?

Can I power a motor with a higher voltage?

I have a set of 56V Lithium Battery packs from an electric lawnmower and a 24V 600W scooter motor.  I don't want to hack the packs apart because I'm hoping to be able to use off-the-shelf packs and chargers when the larger capacities come out. Can I run these together with just a speed control and not needing an intermediary DC-DC converter?  If not and I want to use the battery, should I run a 48V Kit or a 60V kit (over or under voltage)

Connect DC motor to Servo Output? Answered

I am currently working on a robot of sorts, and have a quick question i would like to ask. I am using a Raspberry Pi as my "Brain", and am using ServoBlaster as my software. I am currently working on driving 6 servos and two motors with said software. My question is, how would i attach the motors to the board? I would like to control the motors with the same software (ServoBlaster) and thus would like to have them run off of PWM. The software allows me to change the min and max range of width, along with a whole bunch of other things, but that is for a later date.  So, my question is, how would i wire a motor up to a PWM output? I would like the motor to be continuous rotation (I am using a Mindstorms motor for the task, which will move the robot). Can I replace an rc ESC with a potentiometer? Answered

I want to use an RC motor for something wired instead of wireless and I was wondering if I could replace the ESC that needed a reciever with a potentiometer hooked right up to a battery. If so, where could I get a potentiometer big enough to let the high current through? Im planning on doing this with a 7.2V 540 size brushed motor.

Thanks for your time,I have a question?i had just bought a 69 monster traxxas rc camaro .For a whole day i was having fun cruising ..The next day i unpluged the batteries from charger.Plugged the batteries to the car, And my esc went up in smoke...now i have a 320a brush brushed esc with no buttons and the reciever'"has no buttons for binding the esc has no buttons..Now how do i connect all three things?I wAs thinking since the reciever is al ready binded with my transmiter because i bought it that way ,,how do i do the 320a esc And i was wondering how many volts or what kind of power and how much do i use to power up a reciever and can i use transmitter and recievr with out esc

Can I use a brushed DC motor directly without a speed controller?

The hobby shop people convinced me that there was no way to hook up a regular motor to my receiver without a ESC.  Even if the motor is all-on or all-off, I don't care.  I just want to be able to control it without a speed control.  Please help me!! I have faith in you people!!  Thanks in advance.

Has anyone seen this motor and know how to run it?

Hi, I got A Rckit from my dads freind and was going to use it to drive a rc car. I set it up and it worked for awhile but I think it was the wrong ESC/Receiver and It went POOF when I was running it normally. A few months later I orderd a proper RC system To go with my arduino and after driving a few small cars and robots I decided to make somthing with more power. I found in My drawer the motors again and decided to run somthing with more power. I have No idea the voltage/current of these motors and want to know. After doing lots of rechurch i stumbled across what looked like the right reciver and batterys. I booked marked the page and couldn't find the motors. recentley i found what looks like the right motors but I am not sure (the ones I have the part nums are smudged). Does anyone reconize the motors or know if they are the same as the ones that I found. I am not looking to buy any driving systems for the motors. LINKS. Reciver/esc.  (looking at pics the one i thought was the same isn't) What motors i found thet look the same.   And  this. Batteys that plugged into the reciver.

How does a BEC work?

I was wondering how a BEC (Battery Eliminator Circuit) for RC cars works.   I know it has 2 wires for the motor, a connector for the receiver, and wires for the battery.  But, I don't know how to connect it.  If someone could explain it, I would appreciate it very much.  Thanks in advance.

Can I upgrade a cheaper motor controller to handle more current? Answered

I know the answer to "Can I do [blank]?" is always "Yes!... with enough time and effort."  I'm looking more for the economical breakdown of how to figure if it's worth the time and effort to do a mod, or if it's "better" to just buy off-the-shelf. I have a 250W motor controller for a 250W motor on a small scooter.  I have recently come upon a 500W motor, same voltage and also PMDC just like the 250W.  Now, I'm assuming that the main difference between the two is probably the number/quality of the transistors being used to control current.  So I'm thinking it's reasonable that if I were to just "double" the transistors, I could get "double" the current.  (P=V*I and all)   Of course, make sure heatsink can handle dissipations, might run into current limiting if there's some current sensing happening, etc... but in short, is my train of thought correct or at least headed in the right direction?  I find there's a bit of a gap between "Introduction to PWM/ESCs 101!" and "DIY Motor Controllers from SCRATCH!" that isn't very well documented.  I think I'm fitting in right there.

Understanding/Interpreting a firmware update

Hi, I'll try to break this down as simply as I can, because there are bits I barely understand myself. Here's what I've got physically: Orca electronic speed control (ESC) for my RC car (based on unknown, unmarked MCU) Orca USB Link for updating firmware on the ESC (USB link is based on Silabs F321) Here's what I've got electronically: I've got a .bin file in my iMac that is the latest update for the ESC and the Orca update software, that acts as the link between the devices Here's what I've already done: I already have a firm grasp on loading new firmware on to the ESC Here's what I want to do: I'd like to be able to toy around with the data in the .bin file, but I honestly have no idea of how to interpret the data contained therein. I've played with it in a few hex editing programs and got a few words to appear in something approaching English, but nothing concrete. I guess the basic problem is understanding what "language" this was written in. (I'm not even sure if it's 8 or 32 bit) I think after that's figured out, I can work backwards from there. Ultimately, I'd like to understand how all of this works and how the MCU interprets the information and signals it's being fed. Any thoughts you can offer on the subject would be appreciated. Can I use a RC TOY transmitter to control an advanced receiver?

I have one of those micro rc cars.The car died and I'm experimenting with its parts. I was wondering if it's possible for a simple Tx ,like this one, to control an advanced Rx connected with a Brushless ESC. By simple I mean single speed(forward without ESC) and with advanced those used for example in rc helis(advanced tech,many ch). I am definitely talking about the same Quarz crystal controlled frequency. Thanks you.

Has anyone tried/been able to get a quadcopter flying using an Arduino paired with an Adafruit motor shield?

The motor shield can be found here. Its probably a dumb question as the L293D drivers can only provide 0.6A max current per motor and most of the brushless DC motors I've seen used seem to require more current.  Perhaps I'm mistaken.  Also, I've read that one can piggyback the L293Ds to get more current.  Would this be a possible solution if a single chip can't provide enough current for the job? Perhaps using conventional ESCs that can provide higher current are the only way to go?  I'm very new to tinkering with Arduinos/motors/electronics in general so any suggestions would be appreciated!  Thanks in advance!

autonomous car goes full reverse because of wrong initialization of ESC?

 Hi, I have a problem with my robotics project. I am building an autonomous car using a LiPo battery (2S) and a 15T motor and an Arduino board. I know that I have to initialize the ESC at the beginning of my code but for some reason, the initialization goes wrong sometimes. I don't know if my code is wrong or what. Sometimes the initialization is fine and I'm able to run the car, but sometimes it goes full reverse which is very inconvenient. where can I buy a motor, lipo, esc and arduino?

I am building a device that goes around a track at set times and am not sure what I need and where I should buy it. I know that it must be able to reach 2000rpm to achieve the quickest time required but don't know which motor would be best.The fastest speed the device will need to travel is 10m/s. I have also been told that I will need an arduino, esc and lipo. I am a beginner and don't know where to start. Any responses would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Micro quadcopter circuit board as flight controller and receiver?

I have a little airhogs quadcopter. A motor had died in it, so it doesn't fly anymore. I kinda got the idea to connect ESCs to the motor output of the quad's circuit board. Would those motor outputs be able to drive the PWM input of the ESC, allowing the board to basically drive larger motors?

How do I make circuit schematics for quadcopter?

I have made a quadcopter using ESCs, brushless motors, Arduino UNO, MPU6050 and a battery. Now I want to design its schematics. But I dnt know which software to use to do that. I have tried to use fritzing, but its doeenst give me any components for brushless motors or ESCs. So can anyone suggest me a good software used to make schematics for quadcopter?

electronic speed control based emp?

Is it posible to use a 20 amp 8 khz esc to power an emp? as far as why, the induction pipe from origin clear i found out runs at 4.8v 20 amps and 2-4 khz. it would be amazing to have my own low scale model of their machines for research and testing. unfortunately my research funding is slim to none otherwise i would try this my self .  if anyone has a good esc that they could try this i would love to see the results. i cant im broke, therefore forced to live vicariously through others

where can i buy a remote controlled stepper motor kit , that i can use to controll an esc?

Hi, i am building an rc tank, and have decided that i want to put an electronic speed controller on the tank to control the speeds of the two motors used for both steering and driving. however, i am having difficulties finding a stepper motor i can control via remote control, ANYWHERE!!. i need to get a stepper motor, so that i may control the esc, as the only esc i can get without paying more than $30, and will work at the current i am using, needs me to turn a knob to determine the speed, that knob, i will be turned by the stepper motor. now what i have in mind is that i have two kits foir controlling the stepper motor, both i will put onto my remote controller board, so they act like a gear stick on a car, these will control the speeds the motrs go at when i use the on /off signals from the remote control to the motors. what i am asking is where can i get a kit that will wirelessly control a stepper motor, using a band that isnt 27mhz, 40mhz, or 315mhz. but the thing is i dont want aan esc that can be directly controlled by a receiver, as i also plan on using that kit for something else,  as i may just decide to use it to pivot a wireless camrea that is mounted on the tank.

How can I reduce 3A down to 1A? Answered

I am finishing up my quadcopter build, but forgot to buy an UBEC. My ESCs are OPTO, a fact I unfortunately did not realize until I had bought them. So, I am attempting to design my own circuit to reduce the 11V 3A battery I have down to 5V 1A for my receiver and flight controller board. So my question is this: can I use a simple 5V regulator to reduce the voltage and amperage? Or will 3 amps going into the circuit fry the regulator? I read that putting 2 regulators in parallel will increase current; however, I believe that is only for the output of current from the regulator(s). Any and all help is appreciated!! Radio controlling a Mobility Scooter: Need help finding out what kind of ESC I need, and where to get one. Answered

I have a 48-inch long fiberglass "F250" style truck body.  I want to turn it into a rideable car, but ALSO an RC car!  I am using the remains of a 24 volt Mobility Scooter (rear suspension, motor, drivetrain, and differential axle, and part of the chassis) with slightly larger wheels and tires.  Steering will be actuated with a 12-volt motor and drive out of a car seat that had electric adjustments. I want to be able to set the original seat from the mobility scooter back into it's original place through a hole int he bed and sit on it and hold a WIRED controller in my hand to operate both speed AND steering.  I want also to be able to remove the seat, unplug the wires controller, turn on an RC receiver and transmitter, and drive the vehicle by remote.  I am NOT building an autonomous robot or anything hugely techie like that, just a sort-of cross between an RC car and a gocart.  It doesn't need to be any faster or more powerful than the original mobility scooter either, so all I really need is batteries and a motor controller..  Controlling the steering actuator will be done with some limit switches and relays simply, that's not-at-all a problem at this point.  I need a battery set (two garden-tractor batteries?  I don't think I can afford SLAs or anything high-tech right now...) and an ESC and honestly have no idea what I need or where to find it.  I do not know exactly what the amperage of the motor is, but I have a car-battery stress-tester as well as a multi-meter device and with someone's help I am sure I can figure out how to get an accurate measurement of current from the motor.  I would love for someone to help me out with this project!!?  If you have a business and it would benefit you, I WILL put your name ON the truck like a sponsor!!  i want to be able to take it to certain garden-tractor shows and maybe even run it in a local parade or two.  I want it to be seen.

Quadcopter Build Check? Answered

I have recently researched and picked out parts for an entire quadcopter build. Would someone be able to tell me if all of these parts will be OK for a quadcopter build in terms of a.) if the parts will work together (I believe they will, but I am not 100% sure) and b.) if I will be able to do FPV with a Mobius Action Cam. Arduino code Answered

Hello, I have been trying to make code for my arduino. I would like code to tell my arduino to receive a servo signal from my rc receiver, then detect whether the signal is telling the esc to move forwards or backwards. If the signal is forwards, it simply relays that code to the ESC. If the signal tells the ESC to go backwards, then it sends a signal to go forwards at the speed it would have gone in reverse, while sending out a power source to power a relay. Chowmix12 came up with some code that may help and I put  "//" before all of the code that was not needed for his application to work. Why my quadcopter is oscillating and crashing after taking off?

Hi guys, I am new to this multirotor domain. We are strugling with our first F450 quad. Below are the specs: 1. F450 quadcopter chassis 2. KK2.1 Flight controller. 3. FLYSKY CT6B --- 6 channel radio transmitter 4. 1400 KV Brushless motor 5. 30 amps ESC 6. Lipo battery Firstly the quad was not taking off properly. More over, after activating self level mode also, the quad is not at all stable. If we max up the throttle, then it flips in one side and crashes. Otherwise, it takes off from the ground upto 1-2 feet if we slowly increase the throttle and then oscillates and to avoid crash, we then decrease the throttle. Please see the video HERE for more reference. Please guys, really need your help in this matter. We are not able to understand exactly what is wrong with our quad. We have already calibrated our ESC's and the Accelarometer but no luck. Please help guys.

FPV Quad-copter Build?

I want to build a Quadcopter with some specifications: -GoPro Hero3 Mount -Additional wireless onboard FPV camera -About a 2 mile range -GPS to return to certain location  -30 minute battery life My budget would be around $200-500 Is this build possible? If so, is my budget enough? or is it going to cost more? May anyone help me on the specifications on the hardware (Motors,ESC's, Flight Control, GPS)

Why is my quadcopter toppling when i try to fly it?

I built a quad copter. I have done all the calibrations correctly (accel, compass, rc, esc). When I arm the drone, motors and propellers are spinning. But when i give more throttle to try to hover it, it doesnt fly upward steadily. Instead it lifts backwards and falls. Why is this happening? Should I change some PID setting?

Code to start/stop and adjust speed for Arduino Uno to 1 single drone motor

I'm hoping I can get this answer as simple as possible - I'm sure what Im asking has been done a million times over so I'd just love to be able to copy and paste the code - HOWEVER I really don't know what to do next anyways.Attached images: The set up as a whole 6s LiPo battery - 6,000mAh 80A ESC - "Mystery" brand Drone motor; U7 T-Motor brand, 420KV, 3-8s LiPo battery Arduino Uno Wires connected from ESC to Arduino Uno: Black to: GND White to: ~6 digital pin Red (grey connector wire from arduino to esc) to: 5V FIRST: I have it set up in 'a' way that will allow this to function/interact correctly. I do not need an accelerometer and I am wanting to turn it on/off-start/stop and adjust speeds (for all intense and purposes) through my desktop via the USB port. So I want to be able to do all of this through the Arduino create agent editor thing on my desktop. NEXT: So even if/when someone is so nice enough to show me the code in such a way I can just copy and paste into the editor - I really don't know what to do next. How do I get it to go? I'll have to adjust numbers in certain sections of the code in editor. I'll need some help with this, e.g. this number means this - that means that and adjusts the speed accordingly, etc.But basically; How do I turn this set up on and off in the editor controlled from my desktop. RC ducted fan plane

My Mom recently aquired a new blender for christmas and I was able to salvage the very massive motor from it. it is a 120v 430w motor. I want to be able to make it remote control with an esc and some rc gear I have. I need help either creating one or somewhere to buy one that would work with this motor. I could also use arduino to control it if needed but would need a program. Thanks in advance for all help recieved.

Getting the right battery for what i have?

Recently brought a RC4WD Trail Finder 2 with Novak Eiger Crawling ESC/Rock Star Brushed Motor Crawler System (45T). I wanted to see if anyone can help me get the best battery setup for what I have. What i plan to do with the truck is do some light to moderate crawling and some trails. Need a battery that I can run the longest between charges. LiFe, or A123. price is no issue. thanks in advance.

Rc car out of ps3 controller+quadcopter???

Hi im just wondering if it's possible to build a working rc car using parts from ps3 controler and quadcopter such as ESC ,battery ,  2 motors in controller to power 2 wheels... ( This is just to see if i can find any use of those two things that i dont use , not trying to create a really good rc car , just checking if it is possible) The two motors would both have to spin at different speeds to make the rc car turn.

Control Logic with PWM? Answered

I am currently working on a robotics project, and need a bit of help. I have this H bridge, and would need to control it via PWM. Speed control isn't necessarily what i need, though i wouldn't mind. (In4 i should have just bought an ESC) The whole bot is controlled by PWM (All servos) except for the two DC motors that i have on it -- One for forward and backward, and another for rotating an arm. How would i control the H Bridge with PWM? Which pins would i connect what to?

RPi2: OSMC Terminal Issue

I am trying to make some changes to OSMC through the terminal, but there is an issue with the login portion of it. When I quit OSMC, and wait for the boot screen, I hit Esc, and it goes into the terminal. Next, the login. I enter "osmc", then its to the password. But, it refuses to let me type anything in when I get to this stage. If I hit enter, it tells me that my password is wrong and then it goes back to prompting me to login. After about 15 seconds, it just continues to boot into OSMC. Why on earth will it not let me enter a password, and how do I fix it?

Guidance & Info about Quadcopter Project?

Greetings lads, I'm new in forum and since I made some research the past days I'd like to get some guidance about constructing & programming a Quadcopter from scratch since I'm completely new on a project like that. Quadcopter Frame: Thinking about to construct an aluminum 70cm diameter frame which will weight around 500g. What kind of motors should I get in order the frame with the board,motors etc. will be able to lift? Board: I'm thinking to use Arduino Uno or Raspberry Pi 2.0 ( With a little bit of research I made I conclude that Raspberry could make my life a little bit easier since you can add wifi on it. The quadcopter will be controlled via a pc/laptop through wifi). What can you suggest and why? ESC: As far as I've seen in most of similar projects people using ESCs in order to control the motors throttle. Can you avoid that, with programming PIDs that make the same job in order not to use more hardware? About PIDs and Code in General: Thinking about to simulate the whole project in Simulik, Matlab and somehow (if it's possible) to convert the Matlab Code into C++ and download it on the chip. What do you think about that? About the whole project: I'm trying to minmize the hardware as much as it's possible (use only 4x motors, the board with the chip on it, cables and probably some sensors) in order to minimize the total weight of construction and ofc the price. How can I make my game windowed? Answered

I downloaded AssaultCube thinking it was similar to any other FPS game and like every other one it is a full screen. It is a pretty good game but I would like to know if I can somehow make it in a window. This is annoying on my games so if maybe I want to search something I have to Ctrl+Esc and wait for it to respond and do whatever I needed to do. So I just want to know if there is a way to do this and how. :)
