I can see a small black dot inside them, is this some type of transistor? I am also wondering if there is a way to get a bi-color (3 leads) LED to flash using a transistor. What kind would i nedd, and how would i nedd to hook it up? ( diagram appreciated)

Flash addon?

I remember a long whiles ago coming across some kind of script for firefox or safari to right click and disable certain flash banners on web sites, but not all of them. I was wondering if anyone can remember what the app was called as I can't. My issue are these retarded orbital sander ads on the front page, it keeps expanding across the page every time I visit the site here and laggs my safari for like 5 minutes until I can finally click at that close button (VERY frustrating).

Concrete Flash Drives

These flash drives by Shu-Chun Hsiao are serious. The drives are encased in concrete and are embossed with the weight of each one, a number that correlates with the flash drive's capacity. This would make a great entry for the upcoming USB Contest Concrete Memory, Get Totally Cemented via TechEBlog

Programming flash memory?

Hello Instructables community! I just purchased 10 Atmel AT49F040 flash chips off eBay (I couldn't buy just one..) and now I'm wondering how in the world I'm going to program them. I'm hoping to desolder the ROM chip from a Gameboy cart (yes, I'm using a tutorial) and replace it with this flash chip. It seems easy enough, but I'm not sure I want to spend $45 on a Willem Programmer.. Anyone have ideas for how to program on the cheap? Thanks, Derp

Flash Power Supplies

I don't have a lot of money to spend on stuff at the moment. What I do have is flash guns. Four of them in fact, three of which can be fired with triggers. Now I could invest in 16 rechargeable batteries. Or should that be 32 in case I run out? And a crap load of chargers.  And extensions cos we have no spare sockets in our house. But that just doesn't seem right to me.   Heres what I propose : 1) make some dummy batteries from wood with wire running through the middle.   Three of these go in each flash to carry the connections  2) a fourth dummy battery carries wires out of a small notch in the battery flap door 3) said wires are connected in parallel to a large rechargeable battery - I reckon a 6v from an old British motorcycle (fast draining) or from a granny wagon (deep cycle) should do the trick.  4) when I'm done shooting I charge this single battery from the mains charger I have (does 6/12v) I figure 4xAA batteries at 1.5v = a 6v battery, bu extra size should last longer, be more convenient than carrying around dozens of AAs and changing them and if I want to use AAs when our and about I still can   Any reasons tho wouldn't work or I shouldn't do it?

Flashing LED usb

I'm not really sure where to start with this, but in the end I's like an LED strobe where I can control how fast is flashes precisely (for example 5khz). My Ideas so far is you have an LED hooked up to my laptop via usb with a simple program to control the speed and how many times it flashes. Right now I've got LED's and usb's and 100ohm resisters if i need them. From what I've read I don't think I can control the usb port's power so I'm assuming I need a driver board or something? I'd love some help with this but I assume I've been too vague, mostly because I'm not sure what i'm talking about. Any help I can get would be amazing. Thanks

So with this new components I'm going to make a software that changes 4 LEDs in the flash drive. This software that I'm going to develope is going to be on the flash-drive and not on the computer, and when I press a button "turn on green" or something similar the green light should led. Now to my question. What programming language should I use, and how do I make it possible to "talk" to the leds? Hope anyone can help me with this, Thanks in advance xddx

Flashing LED project?

I have undertaken a sign project for my work that involves LEDs flashing in sequence. We are a Fire and EMS education program and want something that is going to grab attention. At first the project was supposed to be just solid burning lights but has been changed. I'm guessing they want something like the old style movie poster chasing lights or alternating flash between 3 sets of LEDs. It's a little more advanced than I had planned and don't know where to start as far as components go. I've already got the switch they want me to use,  it is very similar to a toggle switch but has a safety cap. My sign is a little larger than a standard letter size paper and I'm thinking 10 or 15 lights across the top should look pretty cool. Any suggestions on where to start or what I need? Thanks, Matt   This is the switch: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062493   The photo I've included gives you an idea of what it is we do.

LED flash grenade?

I am trying to make an LED flash grenade that I can use for airsoft/paintball. Basically I want it to countdown (from around 6-9 seconds just long enough to push the button and toss it into a room) and when it reaches 0 it would turn on multiple LED's (in a 360 degree pattern) but only for a brief period. (just long enough to temporarily blind someone.) I am pretty new to electronic circuits. I think I would use a 555 timer but not sure. What would be the easiest way to do this? Flashing LED problem?

Hi everyone. I mess around with HO scale slot cars and have had decent success lighting them with LEDs using track voltage and simple resistors to power them. I have ventured into the use of full wave rectifiers to smooth out the power and a small capacitor to eliminate the flicker. The problem I am having is when trying to use multiple blinking LEDs. Single blinking LEDs haven't caused any problems and I've had good results with them. The problem starts when I use more than one. I can get a pair of them to work on the bench with out any problem at all, but when they are soldered to the slot car chassis they might work for 3-5 minutes and then they stop blinking, and usually get hung up on one LED staying lit. What is even stranger is if I take a piece of brass rod and touch the anode of the dead LED, it will light up momentarily (and the other will go out). I only have so much room to work with so flashing circuits, large capacitors and voltage regulators are out of the question. Keep in mind, these cars are the size of a hot wheels or matchbox car, and the chassis uses up most of the internal space. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

led flash and fade. how?

Video of RavelightPicture of RavelightIm interested in building a product that utilises coloured LED lights with multiple flashing and fading patterns.I have pulled apart a few LED products and examined the PCB's and the components and have a general idea of what is going on, however it is all new to me, and im unsure of the possibilities that exist. For example, i didn't know you could get pcb's so small...Basically i need the power source to be the small button cell batteries (up to 6 if necessary, though 3 or 4 would be preferable). With at least 4 LEDs of different colours (RGB etc). A similar design to what I want to make is a flashing LED light stick like people use at raves that I found. It has a button that seems to simply complete a circuit momentarily, and pressing it down again and again, scrolls through its 9 different flashing patterns.I have seen various different LED toys that vary on this, but are basically the same idea. The thing that I don't understand (on top of a lot of other small things) is what is under the black blob on the PCB? Is this something like a 555 timer? an IC? And how are these programmed to give all the different patterns? is it a microchip? This thing cost me $3 from a shop. three dollars!! cheap as....this is what I want for my product. can anyone help me out to understand?I can post a picture up in the next couple of days if people can't understand what i'm talking about. Thanks

LED Flash Drive Cube

I am making an LED Cube with a flash drive built into it, one for my friend (birthday coming up) and one for myself. I was thinking about having 8 LEDs in it to sufficiently light the cube up. LED - http://www.ebay.com/itm/50-Round-5MM-Ultra-Bright-Red-Led-6-000-Mcd-USA-Seller-FAST-/281134922484?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash;=item4174f27af4 I wanted to rig it up so that the LEDs were powered by the USB, but then I thought that it may not supply to enough power to power the LEDs and the flash drive at once. Would the 5V current of the USB port be able to power both the flash drive and LEDs (if so how would I connect them?) or should I use a separate power supply (battery with a switch)?

USB Flash Drive Tester

I am looking for a tester to use to test USB Flash Drives.  I found a cool USB port tester on instructables, but I need something that would test the hardware functionality of a USB Flash Drive not the USB port.  I am not sure if I am saying this correctly, but reading about the functionality of USB Flash Drives, it appears to be a fuse on the circuit board.  I don't know if all drives have one.  Many of the videos I watched on YouTube require taking apart the drive and jumping the fuse to see if this is the problem.  I thought if there was a way to test to see if the circuit (I am not sure if I am describing this correctly.)  was completing then it would not initially require someone to take it apart.   Looking into this a little further, I see there are four leads on a USB.  It looks like from what I read that lead 1 [+5 VDC] and lead 4 [ground]. Are these the two leads which should show a completed circuit via a tester?  You probably have already figured out by now that I have no knowledge of electronics. Thanks for your help.

Flash player being blocked? Answered

OK, so I've been working on computers for years and have never seen anything like this... neither have any of my colleagues.  I am trying to help someone out who has some issues with flash player.  Basically flash player is installed on the computer, but whenever I visit youtube or another site with flash, it just shows a black square.  I have run every virus scan I can think of (MBAM, Spybot, SAS, McAfee Stinger, HiJack This!, Norton Power Eraser, Kaspersky TDSS killer, Combofix, Avira) and all of them come up with nothing.  I have tried reinstalling flash at least 5 times, removing every program that has even a remote possibly of conflicting (using Revo to be sure they are completely removed).  I have disabled every startup program on the computer, updated every driver, rolled back, (then updated) every driver, and verified that all hardware is functional.  I have also disabled their AV and firewall. Nothing works; except for when the computer is in safe mode.  Then everything works fine. Can anyone think of anything I am missing? Thanks! Edit: I did try clearing cache and cookies as well.  I also used multiple browsers (including Chrome; which has flash built right into it).  I used Firefox portable as well... which should be running separately from any settings in the system. Also; I did Google the heck out of this one before posting, so no lmgtfy links please... ;)

Disposable Camera Flash Circuit? Answered

I was making a coilgun through the flash circuit of a fujifilm disposable camera and multiple other capacitors I had laying around and I wanted to have the capacitors in a separate spot from the charging circuit.  However, I accidentally nudged the capacitor that was already on the circuit a bit too hard and ripped up some of the copper connections underneath.  Typically I can usually find another place to solder the ends of the component back to the circuit by looking at the circuit board and connecting the leads to something that is also connected to where the part is supposed to be. But there happened to be some sort of blue plastic film covering that specific part of the circuit board which i cannot take off and is preventing me from seeing where else I can place the leads of the capacitor.  If someone is familiar with this could you please tell me where I can solder them on?  The flash circuit is from a QUICKSNAP-FLASH400 model fujifilm disposable camera. Thanks!

SONY Flash Drive HELP!!!

Help!!! Today I had my flash drive with me and was working on some school projects. It worked fine in the morning. Though later I was messing with Batch and saved them to the drive root. Now when I plug it in windows waits for about a min. then says that new hardware was found. When it's done it says that the device is malfunctioned. I don't know what to do or if that batch file is even the problem. If it is I think that it changed the devices properties into making windows think it is bootable. I have plugged it into my Linux machine but still no dice. It won't even come up there. Oh, and I can't reformat it because it's in a way not there. I really need those files for school any way to get them back would be great. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
