propane as fuel?

I am designing a top-secret device. However, i need to know whether i can use propane as its fuel source. i need enough thrust to lift a 120-pound weight (54.5 kg) about 3-5 in (roughly 6-11 cm) off the ground for a long time, until i turn it off or run out of fuel. I am wondering if propane is the best option for somebody who can not afford to spend a lot of money on expensive fuels. Also, can it work without any extra propellants, just air?

hydrogen fuel cell?

I'm making a hydrogen motorbike that runs this kind of motor ===>http://www.ebay.com/itm/ME0709-Brush-Type-Permanent-Magnet-Motor-PMDC-24-72V-DC-Etek-R-19HP-pk-/250954809815?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash;=item3a6e1281d7 However, all i can find are " make your own HHO" fuel cells (which I'm pretty sure isn't what a fuel cell does but I might be wrong on that). Where can I find an actual hydrogen fuel cell that can power this motor plus lighting (and a few things like an arduino) for the motorcycle. Thanks a bunch!

Platinum and fuel cells.

A couple of questions: 1) Does anybody know where to get cheap platinum wire (or platinum coated wire) 2) Does AC work better than DC for electrolysis because neither of the poles will corrode. 3) fuel cells produce around 2 volts, right? 4) Is there a cheaper alternative than platinum for converting hydrogen (and does it need the oxygen?) into water and electricity?

E-Cigarette to fuel injector

I was just browsing the information on e-cigarettes when the thought hit me. Here we have a small electronically controlled atomizer, what better use can we use it for. One of the first ideas came up was to use it as a fuel injector for small model airplanes. Anyone have any ideas or remarks? Btw theres plenty of companies wanting to give them away because it creates a "bond" where you need to buy the refills from them. Little do they know that I like to re purpose "free" things

Hard drive hydrogen fuel cell? Answered

I have just learnt that hard drive platters are coated in platinum, i know platinum is a catalyst in the reaction between hydrogen and oxygen to for water and produces electricity. This is basically what happens in i hydrogen fuel cell. Has anyone tried using these platters in making a fuel cell and if so how successful was it? Does anyone know if the platinum quantity high enough for this to be viable? I would like to here any ideas on this quite interesting project.

What are the steps in processing uranium into fuel for reactors?

I am programming a realistic nuclear reactor program. just kinda to mess around with because this subject interests me greatly. i need to know in very detailed steps the processing of uranium ores into yellowcake then to UF6 ect. you get the idea. the whole process. i also need to know the machines and chemicals used in the process. and if you're dumb enough to think any information given to me in this question could be used to build a bomb; think again. i have neither the resources of a country to gather the uranium needed nor do i have 1000's of centrifuges to separate U238 and U235.

We have heard that someone in England is doing it, as gas over there is $12. + a gal. Has anyone had any experience. Many years ago the VW company said that if not able to get diesel, get some peanut oil. Any thoughts?

Hydrogen-powered plane carries human crew for first time.

The first manned, hydrogen-powered plane has been successfully tested in the skies above Spain, its makers say.The small, propeller-driven craft, developed by aviation giant Boeing, made three short flights at an airfield south of Madrid, the company said.It was powered by hydrogen fuel cells, which produce only heat and water as exhaust products. The tests could pave the way for a new generation of greener aircraft, the company said.Boeing's chief technology officer John Tracy said the flights were "a historical technological success" and "full of promises for a greener future".Small futureThree test flights of the two-seater aircraft took place in February and March at an airfield at Ocana, south of Madrid. The plane was modified to include a hybrid battery and fuel cell system used to power an electric motor coupled to a conventional propeller. Hydrogen-powered planes have been flown before, but never with a human pilot onboard.BBC Story

Fuel Cell Projects for The Evil Genius :-(

For my birthday I asked for (and got) the book Fuel Cell Projects for the Evil Genius. At first I liked it a lot. It had good information, and some really cool looking projects. What I started to realize though is that many of the instructions for many of the projects just say to go out and buy something from the author's store. The entire instruction for the Desktop Hydrogen storage unit was 2 pictures and a link to his store. This really made me sad. I bought this book because I don't really have the budget to go out and buy a lot of premade stuff.Has anyone else bought this book, or does anyone else have any thoughts about this?

Car Runs on Home-Brew Hydrogen

BBC News are running an item about a car running on home-produced hydrogen.UK company ITM Power has produced a plastic film they claim is suitable for home electrolysis of water to produce hydrogen. The hydrogen (they say) can be used in the home, to be burned for cooking or heating, or to power a car (they are simply burning it, but it could supply a hydrogen fuel cell). As we have mentioned elsewhere on this site, current sources of hydrogen are not "green" (95% of current H2 supplies are manufactured from fossil fuels), but ITM say that their system is green because you aren't stopping at a filling station, you're generating your own hydrogen from the energy resource of your choice (maybe your own solar cells or wind turbine).Others, however, have questioned the wisdom of storing tanks of hydrogen at home.Whatever the application, if this new material is all that they claim, it could be a major step towards a true hydrogen society.BBC StoryITM Power
