I was just wondering how easy it would be to make your own simple game console to hook up to tvs. dosent have to have 3d graphics but it would be a plus. i just kinda want something to play around with and make my own games for it. price isnt really a problem but even a computer that can run .exes from a cd, and plug into a tv, and posibly even play through a online server with other people. edit: ok i meant like using microcontrolers now. i want to make a gamboy like system and possibly even wireless. i know you can play games using micro comtrolers, but no idea what i would need. anyone with any idea about this please comment. oh, and a lcd screen too, so that would prolly ne a little work, but im up for it

I was planning to purchase parts for a budget gaming system, around $600. Everyone says that Amd processors are a lot cheaper than Intel (which is true), but they say that the performance isn't nearly as good. What do they mean by this? Are they decent gaming processors? Thanks.

I've been looking online recently for some sort of "glove" that you would wear for gaming, instead of having a keyboard. Didnt really find anything.. at least in my price range. So i am going to get the Makey Makey tomorrow from a trade with a friend, i figured this was my best bet. My idea for this glove would be that it have either foil on the tips or that sewing yarn that can be used as wire. There would be a thin Aluminum Sheet that you would tap with the appropriate finger. The aluminum sheet would act as the ground. My other idead would be instead of having the Aluminum Sheet have the tech yarn in the palm of your hand, but this would get uncomfortable after time. I want to make this so i could possibly in the future have two gloves one for each hand. Also, if i was to use the special yarn for electronics, i would have to wear to gloves since the yarn would weave in and out of the glove grounding to your finger. Most likely going to be working on this tomorrow or as soon as i can get some cheap gloves. I'll upload pictures then. any suggestions?

Hi I am making a pokemon game in Game maker 8 Pro Version. I am hopeless at scripting with the GML ( with other types of scripting as well ). I can make the backgrounds but I have no Idea on how to make the battle scenes. So if you go into the grass it chooses a random number between one and 5 and if it is 1 a pidgey will apear 2 a caterpie will appear etc. etc etc.. Then Also the EXP and Health the PP and the pokemon attack moves themselves. I guess what I'm trying to ask is : Does anyone know what I should do ? Thanks Nathan

I'm probably the last person you should go to for game advice, but I'll try. If I don't have the answers you seek, I'll tell you a place where you can find those answers. If you need cheats, I'll see if I can find them. I check to answer your questions every Saturday. If you think you're an expert on a certain game and your willing to give advice leave a comment saying so on my orangeboard.

I have 2 games (and a half), first: runescape.com this is an adventer MMORPG. You battle different types and levels of monsters and characters. You can strive to be the richest or to be the strongest. Second: hflhotel.4t.com this is a habbohotel.com fan site with its own habbo like interface. You log in and you automaticly get 800,000 free coins. In habbohotel.com you have to buy you're coins for 10 cents a coin. That can add up! 50 coins is $10, so I recomend what they call, a retro habbo. (I am sorry... this website had been moved to a different server or deleted. I am sad too) In a half: habbohotel.com I dont recomend this game unless you have 500 dollars laying in a dust gathering pile in you're tool shed or you will have the least of fun!

If I were to build a gaming PC and put Linux on it (probably Ubuntu or Mint) Could I play decent games on it? such as First person shooters, strategy, and RPGs? I'm hoping for more like main-line games (COD, Halo, Age of Empires, Civilization....), not shady, third party download type games.

Let's say that you have an idea for making a videogame. You are good with 3D software, designing, game flow, you are creative, and you are a programming GOD. What woud you dream game be? Would it be a simple arcade or a puzzle game? Or would it be a complex RPG or action game? Would it have a story? Are you even working on it now? Do you have artwork or ideas you wish to share? Remember-it is your dream game. It's whatever you want it to be.

For those of you who know what consoles are (I hope you all do) I have been coding one (yeah, like DOS) and I finally released it. For the next version, I am having it so the person can download what they desire from the internet. Currently, the only thing I can make it download is games. I need some ideas for games. I cannot do update graphics (meaning whatever goes on the screen stays on the screen, unlike modern games today) so if I want to do hangman, Everytime I make them guess a letter it must print out the hangman letters. I need ideas for games, and if you had ideas, that'd be great. I did tic-tac-toe and hangman already, checkers and chess and backgammon are all ruled out, so what should I do? Thank you! P.S. For the ones who want to see my console, go to http://github.com/konix-systems/Konix-One-0.01 :)

We have a lot of LCD projectors at school. As you may, or may not, know, they work by splitting the light from a bulb into three beams, shinging them through three different-coloured LCD filters and them re-combining the beams to form a full-colour image on the screen. One of our projectors developed an odd blotch in the image, and a few minutes' furtle by our IT technician found that one of the LCD filters had packed up - the layers had delaminated slightly.Cost of a brand-new projector - 465GBP.Care to guess the price of a replacement LCD unit?

I am a chemistry teacher and I need to make a set of explosions for the football team to run through. The run on the field and the explosions go off on each side of them Any ideas. I may fill a dozen metal coated baloons with hydrogen and, and ignite them with some sort of electric spark strong enough to pepetrate the baloon. I'll put six of them on each side of the path that the team runs out through under the goal post. And how will I make the system to spark them off (electric plug in?)(capacitors, tesla coils, etc.?) thanks

So everyone and their grandma has posted and made articles for how to make a "universal game system" that emulates the actual hardware of a console on something like a raspberry pi. But my question is this: is it plausible/possible to create your own, unique, personal gaming console? I mean something that doesn't emulate, but rather is an entirely different system (not an NES or Sega, it's a "You-console"!). I understand some criticisms for this: "Why re-invent the wheel? Or at least the console...", "This is too complicated...", "You're stupid" and etc. etc. My reasoning for this is this: Why not? Heck, what a niffty thing to have under your belt to say "Hey, I developed my own game system and make my own games for it! I'm cool!" So what do you guys think? Is it possible? Has someone done it? If not, you guys have any pointers on what to do? I'd like to do it, but I'm not too electronically edj-imukated. Maybe it'll be something I tackle in the future, but I'd like your input first! :)

Here is my question, its a technical problem so am trying to simplify it as much as possible. So what I am trying to do might sound a bit weird. Here is image that is needed for following explanation. http://tinyurl.com/p5g88mu I want to use GUI to create a 2D game with grid of points. Now in that grid, I have some existing data point.( light green) and rest are missing ( not shown but one of the example missing point is shown in orange). Now I want to fill up all the missing data points by using a few light green points. Default case is the 4 light green points shown by arrows at the intersection of the arrows and the red and blue lines. Lets say I select a missing data point it should turn orange or red and all the light green data points corresponding to that should become dark green. Now I should be able to toggle between light and dark green data points and customize a set for each missing data point. I want to do this for all missing data points one by one. Lets say that this is the game I want to build in python GUI. I wanted to ask if anyone can help me get started. I use python a lot but never did any GUI. I looked up web GUI examples they all seem quite simplistic and no where as complex. Python is what I am comfortable with but if this can be done using some other language I am willing to try. Any help you can give is highly appreciated.

Hi guys, I've been thinking. Really thinking. I recently found my Digispark (if you dont know what those are, google digistump, click on the first link and go to products, Digispark. They're really cool.) and decided to put it to use. I have always wanted to have/build something like a micro gaming system (sort of like the ben nanonote (if you don't what that is, google it, its really cool)) and decided that as a challenge, I could try implementing the Digispark as the Processor. I know that I wouldn't be able to run any games more advanced than pong, breakout or snake, but even those kinds of games would be enough to keep me interested while in boring situations. My basic thinking is this: There would a small lithium-ion rechargeable battery on the bottom to be a base (but still removable), the Digispark without any headers above the batteries, and a small LCD screen (1.8, 2 or 1.3 inch screen size) that would have either two pushbuttons (one on either side of the screen) or four pushbuttons configured in a D-pad style on the right side of the screen (how many buttons it would have depends on how many pins the Digispark would have open (if any), which also leads to my question, does anybody know any place to get video LCD screens (don't care if its color or not) that only take up 4 or less pins? I know that probably seems absurd, but if anybody knows any places to get them, please let me know. And just one last thing, is it possible to program games in the arduino IDE? Are there libraries for them? ANd if you can program games, just how advanced can you go?

I recently up dug a "scanner" for a game that shut down a few years ago , it is essentially a barcode scanner as you would scan cards with barcodes on them in and it would interface with the game, i was wondering if anyone could figure out how to create a program that would allow me to easily see what data i put into it, that way i may be able to MAKE things encoded in a barcode i could scan in?

Hey so I recently pulled out my old game systems and played them. We normally keep them in the attic but i want easy access so i can play them whenever. I was considering making squares just stacked up on eachother but that's boring. does anybody have any ideas? And also I wonder if cabinets would be better or just have them open so you can see the systems. For an idea of how much room I need I have an Nes, Snes, Atari, N64, Ps2, Xbox, Wii and i would like a few extra in case i get more. I also need space for games and accessories. Does anybody have any ideas for how i could make this look really cool? Thanks.

I'm able to make it work with an Arduino pro micro but i want to make it wireless! Bluetooth is in my mind for this project. I was looking for the bluefruit ez-key but it's discontinued so the feather line are probably the way to go Now but there's more than one models that are bluetooth and i want to choose the right one for my project! If someone can recommend me one ore even other brand. I'll need all the stuff like lipo battery, charging board .. thanks!

Last week I was "volunteered" by friend to help setting up a rented and empty factory building for what he called a VR gaming party. My job was down to somehow get enough cables and power outlets from that rented industrial power box inside the building. And well, organising about 800m of network cables with routers, switches and whatnots :(After a hard days work and testing all we went for a well deserved beer.Next day I pooped in to see how the computers are going and where things like tables, catering stations, portable toilets and so would go.Well, the later ended outside for various reasons...To my surprise all hardware was basically boxed in and then padded all around. And although not even running at full capacity the computers already created a lot of heating the building.(Mind you we getting into the summer here)The most confusing thing was seeing several elevated work platforms with people creating a maze of wires about 2.5m above floor level. Now it dawned on me that this "party" might slightly more than what I was used to in my gaming years. Was curious enough to ask if I could jump in again when the actual thing starts and was invited for a quick test later that night.Walking around in an empty building while thinking you are inside some racing game was a strange thing to say the least.I learned why there where two people around me and my brain not always makes the right decisions without the sensory information provided by my ears matching what my eyes see.A bit later when most players where set up and active I realised that this type of VR is not for me.Ever seen those movies where someone has really bad halucinations and tries to fight against something that is not really there?Yes, that is exactly how it looked like LOLSometimes all is in slow motion then suddenly they jump shoot their virtual guns and go for cover...I guess if you are not in it then you just won't understand.Watching the screens for a while I could at least find some relation to the action but it was like another world if you know what I mean ;)What do you think will the near a slightly further future bring us in terms of virtual reality? Will it affect us as badly as social media and mobile phones already do or will it bring some real benefits for everyone?By the way: Virtual Reality Cars are already in the design visions!Self driving cars that put you into another world while driving - why think you sit in the car if you can put the seat back and immerse yourself into a virtual beach?

My cousin is joining the army this summer. He's going to be a bomb defuser! We're going to give him a big send-off before he goes but we want to send him off with a little training. Another of my cousins is going to weld together a "bomb" shell and we are going to try to make it a puzzle that he has to solve / defuse using nothing but his MacGyver/ MacGruber bomb disposal kit that we'll give him. He'll have things like matchsticks, tube socks, duct tape, etc.... and he'll have to use that stuff to defuse the "bomb" The most obvious thing I want to build into this thing is a countdown timer. That's probably what he'll find when he gets all the way into the center. I want it to do two things: Not activate until a pressure or momentary switch is RELEASED (he'll open a little door or something which will start the clock ticking) and I want the timer to stop when he cuts the correct wire. Obviously it's just a toy, so it doesn't need to be particularly fancy or functional. I'm not hunting for diagrams that could be used to build a real detonation timer. In fact the cheaper and cheesier the better, especially since my skills in this area are pretty limited. I know how to build an electronics project according to specifications, but I don't know much about designing circuits. Does anyone know of an instructable out there that fits my description? Or at least gets close? Have any other awesome ideas for stuff we should include in our MacGruber puzzle? My cousin has an insidious idea for bolting it shut with a bolt that is threaded half clockwise and half counterclockwise. you can get the nut halfway off but then it won't turn anymore unless you start turning it the opposite direction, which nobody ever figures out.

I got a new project to make a pretty unconventional (fitness) game controller using Arduino to control Android games. The ideea is the following: using the Android VR technology (Cardboard or Dive) it was pretty simple to create a basic game (3d world to walk around) using Unity3D and Dive SDK. If you put on the Google Cardboard, the VR experience begins. But still so few devices are on the market, which give you back the control over your smartphone, which now is fixed in front of your eyes. I want to use this and make a fitness app which will be controlled by running on a treadmill (or using a workout bike). Something like the old Nintendo Wii and the running game from Sports. Or a game like Temple Run, in which running the treadmill faster, gets you faster in the game. For this I would like to create a game controller which records the leg movements, direction, body position, etc. which would then influence the actions in the game. A lot of details I still need to work out. So the question is, does anybody know of a guide or tutorial on how to create a game controller like this, using an Arduino a bluetooth module like HC-05. The controller should not be bound to a specific game or 3rd party app, should work like a usual game controller for android (connecting to some bluetooth android game profile?). There are many android game controllers out there which dont need a special android driver/3rd app to control any game. So this has to work somehow. So how can I programm an Arduino to send (once paired) the same events a bluetooth gamecontroller (or bt keyboard or mouse) sends, which doesn't need any 3'rd party Android app to be able to send basic key pressed events to a random game. Best regards, F
